Using Technology-Supported Enrichment Activities to Extend Student Learning in a Chinese as a Foreign Language

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether exposing middle school students to content above their ability level produced significant differences in students’confidence in their Chinese as a foreign language competence in each of the following four areas:reading,listening,speaking,and learning vocabulary.Participants(N=30)were sixth and seventh graders.Results of paired t-test analyses indicated that there was no significant difference in student confidence in Chinese reading competence,t(30)=0.78,p=0.22;in Chinese speaking competence,t(30)=-0.50,p=0.31;or to learn Chinese vocabulary,t(30)=-0.80,p=0.21.However,there was a significant difference in student confidence in ability to learn Chinese listening,t(30)=-1.78,p<0.05.It is suggested that exposing students to content well above their ability level can increase their confidence in ability to learn Chinese listening.

A Study on Left-behind Junior Students'Foreign Language Learning Anxiety

Since the 1960s, foreign language educators and researchers home and abroad have started to pay attention to the influence of the affective variables including language learning anxiety on foreign language learning. This thesis tried to find out the factors that may influence the foreign language learning anxiety level of left-behind students and put forward ways to help lower down the foreign language learning anxiety level of the left-behind junior middle school students.

An Analysis of Foreign Language Learning Anxiety in Junior English Classes

There are many factors influencing junior students’English learning and this paper focuses on one aspect of affective factors—foreign language learning anxiety.It has negative effects on students’learning,so suggestions are given in the paper.Students are supposed to be more confident and have a proper awareness of language learning and competition;teachers are expected to change beliefs about language teaching and create a relaxing atmosphere in class.

Survey and Analysis of Chinese Learning Needs of International Students-A Case Study of International Students Majoring in MBA and MPA in a College of The Belt and Road

This study investigated the Chinese learning motivation,learning goals and learning strategies of 26 international students majoring in MBA and MPA at a university with The belt and road college,mainly by questionnaire and interview method,supplemented by classroom observation method.The survey found that 20 of the 24 international students were zero-start Chinese learners,and their learning motivation was mainly"instrumental"and"intrinsic",and they had high enthusiasm for Chinese language and Chinese culture.They have a high enthusiasm for Chinese language and culture,and will actively solve the difficulties they encounter in learning Chinese.At the same time,this study conducted a questionnaire survey on the needs of international students in terms of curriculum and content,teaching materials,teaching assessment and extracurricular activities,combined with the results of individual and group interviews and classroom observations,to summarize the real needs of international students in various aspects of Chinese language learning,so as to provide teaching reference for teachers teaching international students,and to provide a reference for colleges and universities to develop Chinese teaching programs.The survey will provide a basis for the colleges and universities to formulate Chinese teaching programs and coordinate teaching activities,so as to help international students learn Chinese better.

A Study of Chinese College Students' Face Needs in EFL Class

Based on Brown &Levinson's Face Threatening Acts and Geert Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions,this study is an analysis of Chinese college students' face needs in EFL class.In this study,the subjects are 116 freshmen,non-English majors.Selecting totally 60 students from them and dividing them into two groups according to their scores of College English Entrance Examination.The collected data from questionnaire are analyzed by statistical software SPSS16.0 version.The major findings from the analysis include the following:1) high-scored students and low-scored students have similar positive face needs;2) Weight of imposition,group tendency and uncertainty avoidance are used to exam students' negative face needs.According to the data in SPSS16.0,there is a difference between the two groups in terms of the weight of imposition.But the Independent-Samples T test of Sum of Questionnaire indicates that there is no distinct difference in the negative face needs between the two groups.

An Analysis of Lexical Errors in Chinese Senior One Students' English Writing

Lexical errors made by language learners frequently in the language learning process play a significant role in language teaching and learning. This paper, based on the theory of error analysis, mainly analyzes lexical errors made by Chinese senior one students in their writing and aims to find out the main types of lexical errors and the most frequent lexical errors in their writing. The results are of great significance and importance for language teaching and learning.

Literature Review on Factors Contributing to the Silence of Students in University-Level English Class

College students tend to be quiet when it comes to practice their spoken English,and therefore it is a challenging task for language teachers to involve all students in speaking activities.Not only are teachers frustrated,the students are disappointed.Despite teachers’classroom management skills and the abilities to organize speaking activities,the general reasons that lie behind student’s reluctance needs to be explored.Though various studies have been carried out,a lack of thorough review on the existing literature has prevented teachers from exploring some main reasons.Therefore,a complete literature review on factors contributing to college student’s silence is needed.It will be able to provide insights into some possible potential reasons.

The Application of TBL Using Role Play to Introduce Vocabulary in China's Private Language School

A specific application of task-based learning in teaching vocabulary to young learners and a complete task cycle using role play to present vocabulary in China's private language school would be described in the study. The participants aged between 7 and 9 are thought to be starters according to their language competence in Common European Framework of Reference for language. The rationale for stages in the task cycle will be fully explored with reference to Piaget and Vygotsky's theory in teaching young learners. The advantages of the adoption of TBL with young learners will be illustrated and some possible problems in implementing TBL in China, a representative country of Confucian-heritage culture would also be discussed in the paper. The study indicates that young learners in China are quite welcome this new approach in their English classes, but the targeted learners' age and background information need to be taken into consideration when actually implement this approach.

Mobile Assisted Chinese Learning as a Foreign Language:An Overview of Publications between 2007 and 2019

This paper presents a critical overview of studies on mobile assisted language learning(MALL)in teaching Chinese as a foreign language(CFL)during the period 2007−2019.In the review,keyword and reference searches were conducted to identify and select empirical studies during the review period.Thematic and frequency analyses were employed on the data.This identified methodological trends and research outcomes in the reviewed studies.As shown in the results,most of the reviewed studies used qualitative methods to examine the effect of mobile CFL learning on formal learning in higher education settings.These studies document the positive impact that mobile technology has on CFL learning.Their attention is primarily on the use of mobile learning in Chinese vocabulary acquisition,language skill development and mobile seamless learning.Suggestions are provided for further research to support continuous mobile assisted CFL teaching and learning.

中文数字学习资源使用意愿及其影响因素研究——基于TAM扩展模型

加强数字学习资源应用是教育数字化转型的重要举措。数字学习资源使用意愿对学习者的使用行为发挥着关键作用。本研究以技术接受扩展模型为理论框架,基于616份问卷数据,构建中文数字学习资源使用意愿假设模型,探究学习者对中文数字学习资源的使用意愿及其影响因素。研究发现:(1)学习者对中文数字学习资源的使用意愿总体良好;(2)感知易用性对使用意愿的总影响效应最为突出;(3)资源质量对使用意愿的影响路径较为多元;(4)感知易用性、感知有用性、使用态度具有关键的中介作用。基于上述发现,本研究建议:关注技术可供性,促进数字技术与中文教育有机融合;完善评价机制,助推中文数字学习资源质量提升;引导学习者树立积极使用观念,激发使用意愿。

The Teaching and Learning of Chinese as a Second or Foreign Language:The Current Situation and Future Directions

In this opening commentary,we highlight the development of the teaching and learning of Chinese as a second or foreign language(CSL/CFL),which has attracted much attention from researchers,language educators,and other stakeholders worldwide.To contribute to this ongoing examination and discussion,this special issue documents the collective efforts of scholars in different educational contexts to review six critical issues in teaching and learning CSL/CFL:learning and instruction of reading Chinese as an additional language,Chinese character teaching and learning,learner identity in CSL/CFL education,teaching and learning Chinese through immersion,technology assisted CSL/CFL teaching and learning,and mobile assisted learning CFL.We contend that all efforts to address these critical issues require constant examination to facilitate further development in CSL/CFL education around the world.

新西兰International Pacific College留学生汉语课堂焦虑情况调查

语言学习焦虑的产生会使得学习者在进行语言学习时阻碍学习信息的输入,影响学习者对于有用信息的捕捉与收集,造成必要学习信息的缺失,进而影响学习者对所信息材料的加工与理解,在课堂上被干扰进行正常、连贯的语言表达是焦虑对学生的输出产生负面影响的主要表现。本文主要对新西兰International Pacific College的留学生在进行汉语学习时的课堂焦虑情况进行了调查,以期改善相关问题,进一步完善我国汉语国际教育体系。

国别化中文教育视角下教师课堂教学研究

国际中文课堂教学效果与学习者的二语交际意愿密切相关。本文以国别化视角考察教师因素对日本学生汉语课堂交际意愿的影响。整体而言,教师的内在品质、课堂反馈和课堂管理三个维度的具体表现是影响日本学生交际意愿的主要因素。日本学生整体与不同群体以及不同群体之间对具体教师行为的感知反应呈现出差异性,不同语言环境、性别和学习时长的日本学生对影响其交际意愿的教师因素接受度也不同。

学习者视角下留学生古代汉语学习接受研究——基于学前调查与学后调查的分析

为了探究外国留学生对古代汉语课程的学习难度预期,掌握留学生古代汉语的学习难点及对古代汉语的学习接受情况,进行了古汉语课程学前与学后两项问卷调查。学前问卷调查分析了学习者的汉语学习策略,掌握学生对古汉语课程的难度期待与学习期待,了解学习者的古文基础。学后问卷调查从八个方面对学习者古代汉语课学习接受情况做出了调查,分别为:1.课程总体难度认同;2.古代汉语课程学习内容兴趣分布及古汉语篇章接受情况;3.中国古代思想内容的接受情况;4.古代汉语课程学习难点及语法知识点接受情况;5.选篇中成语故事和寓言故事接受情况;6.朗读学习策略接受情况;7.翻译学习策略接受情况;8.课程自我评价及课程学习满意度情况。

美国《21世纪外语学习标准》的颁布和AP汉语与文化课程的建设体现了新的外语学习理念,国内汉语教学界不少学者建议以该理念反思国内的汉语教学。汉语学习大纲可以成为这一反思的起点和体现形式。根据"以交际能力培养为核心"的新理念,汉语学习大纲可从以下三方面进行调整:变分立式大纲为综合性大纲;以体现交际能力的交际任务而不是语言成分为大纲内容,作为汉语教学各环节的服务者而不是规定者。
