Re-examined from the principles of Deep Ecology initiated by Arne Naess,Walt Whitman’s treatment of his 16 poems under the title of“Children of Adam”towards nature violates sustainability and the harmony between man and nature.First of all,the elitism of the new Adam is far away from the man-in-environment image advocated by Deep Ecology.Second,the unrestrained seed-spreading that Whitman boosts in his“spermatic trope”doesn’t take into account the rights to subsistence of myriad species of life and women’s right of choice.Third,in Whitman’s eyes,nature is lack of diversity and richness and his“omnisexual vision”has overlooked the diverse values of nature in themselves. 展开更多
