Theconstruction of the international container shipping hub at the harbour is being accelerated in anticipationof the opening of the second Eurasian land bridge.The future development of the harbour will givegreat impetus to the local economy of Lianyungang City and make it an international city. 展开更多

[Objective]The research aimed to study climatic change characteristics of sunshine hours in Lianyungang and analyze its formation reason. [Method]Based on monthly sunshine hours,precipitation,cloudiness,haze days and vapor pressure from 7 stations of Lianyungang from 1961 to 2010,monthly,seasonal,annual and interdecadal change trends of the sunshine hours were analyzed by using MK test,linear trend analysis and Morlet wavelet. Meanwhile,the cause of change characteristics was analyzed. [Result] Monthly sunshine hours of Lianyungang showed bimodal distribution,and seasonal and annual sunshine hours had decreasing trend at different degrees. The interdecadal change of sunshine hours showed wave characteristics. The annual sunshine hours had multiple temporal-spatial scale features,and there was an obvious mutation in the late 1980s. Sunshine hours in Lianyungang was closely related to visibility,cloudiness,vapor pressure and haze,and they were important factors causing that sunshine hours significantly declined. [Conclusion]The research could provide reference basis for scientifically developing and using solar energy resource and reasonably adjusting industrial and agricultural structures. 展开更多

Background:Despite an increasing number of surveys and a growing interest in birdwatching,the population and distribution of Asian Dowitcher(Limnodromus semipalmatus),a species endemic to the East Asian-Australasian and Central Asian Flyways,remains poorly understood,and published information about the species is largely outdated.In boreal spring 2019,over 22,432 Asian Dowitchers were recorded in a coastal wetland at Lianyungang,Jiangsu Prov-ince,China,constituting 97.5%of its estimated global population.Methods:In 2019 and 2020,we conducted field surveys at Lianyungang to determine the numbers of Asian Dow-itchers using the area during both southward and northward migrations.We also assessed the distribution and abun-dance of Asian Dowitchers elsewhere along the China coast by searching literature and consulting expert opinion.Results:The coastal wetlands of Lianyungang are the most important stopover site for Asian Dowitchers during both northward and southward migrations;they supported over 90%of the estimated global population during north-ward migration in two consecutive years(May 2019 and 2020).This area also supported at least 15.83%and 28.42%(or 30.74%and 53.51%using modelled estimates)of the global population during southward migration in 2019 and 2020 respectively.Coastal wetlands in the west and north of Bohai Bay also have been important stopover sites for the species since the 1990s.Although comprehensive,long-term monitoring data are lacking,available evidence sug-gests that the population of the species may have declined.Conclusions:The high concentration of Asian Dowitchers at Lianyungang during migration means the species is highly susceptible to human disturbances and natural stochastic events.The coastal wetlands of Lianyungang should be protected and potentially qualify for inclusion in China’s forthcoming nomination for World Heritage listing of Migratory Bird Sanctuaries along the Coast of Yellow Sea-Bohai Gulf of China(Phase II)in 2023.Additional research is needed to understand Asian Dowitchers’distribution and ecology,as well as why such a high proportion of their population rely on the Lianyungang coast. 展开更多

On the basis of a comparison of the field hydrological, sediment and topographic data observed before and after the completion of the West Breakwater in Lianyungang Harbor, which has led to the change of topography from a strait to a bay, a synthetical analysis is conducted on the change of back siltation. The results show that it is the change of coast line and the consequent change of hydrological condition and sediment movement that has led to the change of back siltation in the harbor. This phenomenon is caused by the lag effects of water current, sediment movement and local adjustment of topography after the construction, and it tends to be stable. The results of analysis provide not only a basis for extension of Lianyungang Harbor into a deep water harbor, but also propose a case for the study of the change of back siltation in a harbor on muddy coast. 展开更多

Comparative Analysis on Activity Patterns of CG between Lianyungang and Yancheng

[Objective] The reseamh aimed to contrast and analyze CG activity rules in Lianyungang and Yancheng. [Method] By using lightning location data, basic characteristics of lightning activities in Lianyungang and Yancheng both located at the eastem coast of Jiangsu were analyzed and contrasted. [Result] CG characteristics in Uanyungang and Yancheng were same, and negative CG was dominant. Monthly change activity rule of CG basically presented single-peak distribution, and peak value appeared in August. Monthly change of the lightning was drastic, and high- occurrence period was both in summer. Daily change trend of CG in the two sites was consistent. High-occurrence period of the lightning was in af- temoon and early morning, and occurrence frequency of the lightning in the morning was less. Spatial distribution of CG in Lianyungang and Yancheng was very uneven. Lightning activity in Lianyungang mainly concentrated in northwest and southeast areas of Donghai County and western area of Guannan County. Especially in Donghai County, it was the area where lightning strike density was the maximum. Lightning strike activity in Yanchang was more concentrated, and mainly concentrated in the west, namely near Jiangying Town and Louwang Town. Distribution characteris- tics of CG intensities in the two sites were same. Waveform changes of the positive CG in the two sites were slower than that of the negative CG, and current intensity concentrated from + 20 to ~ 50 kA. [ Conclusion ] By contrasting and analyzing lightning activity rules in Lianyungang and Yanchang, we could share and complement data in the two cities better, and serve for routine lightning prevention and early-warning better. 展开更多

Based on annual minimum air temperature, the minimum ground temperature, cloudiness, air pressure, wind velocity in Lianyungang City during 1971 -2010 and sounding geopotential height, wind direction, dew point and temperature at related stations, using mathematical stepwise regression method and SPSS statistical software, short-term prediction equations of daily minimum air temperature and daily minimum ground temperature at the observation station were established. According to the relationships between frost and temperature, ground temperature, based on local frost forecast standard, the short-term forecast equation was used to judge if frost occurred in Lianyungang City. Via real-time weather mo- nitoring, accurate and fine forecast and early warning, short-term objective forecast business system of frost in Lianyungang was established for a full range of effective service. 展开更多

To examine spatial variations of grain-size characteristics caused by both natural and human-induced processes along the Lianyungang muddy coast,China,129 samples were collected and measured using standard sieving and sedimentation techniques.Results show that sediment diameter tends to increase with increasing water depth from nearshore to offshore.Size-frequency distributions indicate a gradual mixing process of coarse and fine diameter material.Grain size trend analysis indicates that a man-made structure,the West Breakwater,along with Liandao Island itself,has resulted in severe siltation in Haizhou Bay and the Lianyungang port area,where sediment quality is also poor.Results demonstrate that grain size can be used as a natural tracer to infer how sediments respond to the effects caused by both natural and human-induced processes. 展开更多
