Using L-glutathione(GSH) as a capping agent,Zn Se/GSH quantum dots(QDs) were prepared under microwave irradiation and irradiated under dark, ultraviolet light and incandescent light, respectively. The properties and i...Using L-glutathione(GSH) as a capping agent,Zn Se/GSH quantum dots(QDs) were prepared under microwave irradiation and irradiated under dark, ultraviolet light and incandescent light, respectively. The properties and interaction of different lights irradiated ZnSe/GSH QDs and bovine serum albumin(BSA) were studied systematically. The fluorescence(FL) spectra results reveal that the quenching mechanism are all the static quenching in nature. The quenching constant(Ksv) and binding constant(K) value of different irradiated Zn Se/GSH QDs and BSA all increased with the change of light types from dark to incandescent light and UV light. The number of binding site(n) is close to 1 at different temperatures. The lighting types influence the enthalpy and entropy changes. The Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectra indicate that the light induced GSH ligand will facilitate photocatalytic oxidation on the surface of ZnSe/GSH QDs. The circular dichroism(CD)results show that the α-helicity content of BSA decreases from 60.34%, 59.31%, to 58.79% under UV lighting,incandescent lighting and dark conditions. The interaction results of different lights illuminated ZnSe/GSH QDs with BSA by CD spectra method matches well with that by FL and FTIR spectra. That is, the interaction of ZnSe/GSH QDs and BSA from strong to weak is UV light, incandescent light and dark in sequence.展开更多

Although earthquake lights have been known since ancient times,it has not been easy to study them.It was not until the 60s that the first photographs of them were taken.During the Peruvian earthquake in 2007,it was po...Although earthquake lights have been known since ancient times,it has not been easy to study them.It was not until the 60s that the first photographs of them were taken.During the Peruvian earthquake in 2007,it was possible to obtain the fi rst fi lm recording on earthquake lights.Likewise,during the earthquakes in Ecuador in 2016 and in Mexico in 2017,two fi lms of the earthquake lights were recorded.These fi lm recordings have helped in the study of earthquake lights,both for their objectivity and for their informational content.Several causal mechanisms have been proposed to explain earthquake lights:piezoelectricity,radon emanation,fluid diffusion,friction-vaporization,positive holes and dipole currents,among others.In this work a time difference correlation between earthquake lights and seismic ground accelerations was found and we use both seismic data and fi lm recordings of earthquake lights to explain its origin.In the discussion section it is suggested that fracturing of rocks manifest itself to some extent in the form of static electricity producing earthquake lights through induction The induction model proposed is new and it can explain the formation of EQL,even if the earth’s crust has layers of large electrical resistivity.The model also explains the formation of seismic lights without the need for special conditions on the earth’s surface or in the atmosphere.A better understanding of the earthquake lights generation process can improve our understanding of seismicity and help in the prediction of earthquakes.展开更多

One of many technologies that make road traffic safer and more eff...We examine the network performance of algorithms for self-organized traffic management. In particular, we focus on wireless network- ing between cars. One of many technologies that make road traffic safer and more efficient is the Virtual Traffic Light (VTL) system, which is able to coordinate the traffic flow at intersections without the need for physical lights. VTL takes a leading vehicle at an inter- section and uses it to control the traffic lights. We developed algorithms for leader election and traffic light computation in realistic ve- hicular networking scenarios. Our key contribution is the extension of this algorithm to support arbitrary intersection layouts. We in- vestigated the proposal in synthetic and realistic scenarios. The results show that, overall, VTLs use network resources efficiently and positively influences driving experience. It performs better than stationary traffic lights for a low to medium network load. We also identify potential optimizations to deal with high network load and to improve fairness.展开更多

As a complete research of this...This paper deals with the dialect in the novel Beckside Lights (1897) by John Ackworth. It is a literary dialect which attempts to suggest the speech of the Bolton (Lancashire) area. As a complete research of this dialect is beyond the scope, I aim to analyze some deviant spellings which affect words containing some RP long vowels/i:/, /c:/,/3:/and/a:/. A historical insight is provided to indicate the possible origins of the pronunciations suggested by the author. The findings of this study reveal important data. According to the EDD, most of the pronunciations here suggested are present in Lancashire. Many of them are also present in other northem counties, but barely in Scotland and the southem part of England. On the other hand, Graham Shorrocks in his study of the Boiton area does not provide similar pronunciations in all cases. As for the words here presented, Joseph Wright attests most of them in the EDD. Nevertheless, the EDD and the web search are fruitless in other words.展开更多
