Calculations for submarine cables are complicated by the need to consider not just the induction directly into the cable but also the earth potentials produced at the coast at each end of the cable. To determine the coast potentials, we present a new model of the ocean and earth conductivity structure that spans the whole length of a cable from one coast to another. Calculations are based on the generalised thin sheet approach introduced by Ranganayaki and Madden but converted to a transmission line model that can be solved using standard circuit theory techniques. It is shown how the transmission line model can be used to calculate the earth potential profile from one side of an ocean or sea to the other. Example calculations are presented for a shallow sea, a shallow ocean, and a deep ocean that are simplified approximations to the North Sea, Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean and show that the peak potentials occur at the coast. An examination is also made of how the width of a shallow sea and the width of the continental shelf affect these coast potentials. The modelling technique and example results provide a guide for more detailed modelling of geomagnetic induction along the routes of specific submarine cables.展开更多

We describe the CSMA/CA protocol used in IEEE802.11 p from the perspective of the geometric relationship amongst simultaneous transmitters. The desired channel and interfering channels are assumed to experience the same amount of path-loss and Rayleigh fading. On the basis of the proposed model, we analyse the attempted transmission probability of each road segment and the maximum intensity of active transmitters, including their theoretical values. Then, we employ the physical model to obtain the outage probability and derive the upper bound of the transmission capacity of a VANET, which is defined as the average spatial density of successful transmissions in the network. Simulation results indicate that the theoretical value offers a good bound on network capacity.展开更多

The basic DTPN modules are presented to model the corresponding variable structures in RPL, and then the scheduling model of the whole RPL is constructed. And in the scheduling algorithm, firing sequences of the Petri nets model are used as chromosomes, thus the selection, crossover, and mutation operator do not deal with the elements in the problem space, but the elements of Petri nets model. Accordingly, all the algorithms for GA operations embedded with Petri nets model are proposed. Moreover, the new weighted single-objective optimization based on reconfiguration cost and E/T is used. Solving production sequences with both number of setups and material usage rates to the minimum rate will optimize the level schedule. Miltenburg algorithm (1989) is first used to get seed sequence to optimize further. For this the utility time of the line and setup time requirement on each station is considered. This seed sequence is optimized by simulated annealing. This investigation helps to understand the importance of utility in the assembly line. Up to 15 product sequences are taken and constructed by using randomizing method and find the objective function value for this. For a sequence optimization, a meta-heuristic seems much more promising to guide the search into feasible regions of the solution space. Simulated annealing is a stochastic local search meta-heuristic, which bases the acceptance of a modified neighboring solution on a probabilistic scheme inspired by thermal processes for obtaining low-energy states in heat baths. Experimental results show that the simulated annealing approach is favorable and competitive compared to Miltenburg’s constructive algorithm for the problems set considered. It is proposed to found 16,985 solutions, the time taken for computation is 23.47 to 130.35, and the simulated annealing improves 49.33% than Miltenberg.展开更多

Towards understanding such health impacts, this work estimates local-scale vehicular emissions and concentrations near a highway traffic network, where a school zone is located in. In the case study, VISSIM traffic micro-simulation is used to estimate the source of vehicular emissions at each roadway segment. The local-scale emission sources are then used as inputs to the California line source dispersion model(CALINE4) to estimate concentrations across the study area. To justify the local-scale emissions modeling approach, the simulation experiment is conducted under various traffic conditions. Different meteorological conditions are considered for emission dispersion. The work reveals that emission concentrations are usually higher at locations closer to the congested segments, freeway ramps and major arterial intersections. Compared to the macroscopic estimation(i.e. using network-average emission factors), the results show significantly different emission patterns when the local-scale emission modeling approach is used. In particular, it is found that the macroscopic approach over-estimates emission concentrations at freeways and under-estimations are observed at arterials and local streets. The results of the study can be used to compare to the US environmental protection agency(EPA) standards or any other air quality standard to further identify health risk in a fine-grained manner.展开更多

Experiencing rapid growth of the built environment in the 2000 s, urban expansion of Beijing has not been fully characterized through ISA. In this study, Landsat TM images of Beijing in 2001 and 2009 were obtained, and the eight-year urban expansion process in Beijing was analyzed using the ISA extracted by means of the vegetation-imperious surface-soil(V-I-S) model. From the spatial variation in ISA, the ring structure of urban expansion in Beijing was significant during the study period, with decreasing urban density from the city center to the periphery. In the ring road analysis, the most dramatic changes of ISA were found between the fifth ring and the sixth ring. This area has experienced the most new residential development, and is currently the main source of urban expansion. The typical profile lines revealed the directional characteristics of urban expansion. The east-west profile was the most urbanized axes in Beijing, while ISA change in the east-north profile was more significant than in the other five profiles. Moreover, the transition matrix of ISA levels revealed an increase in urban density in the low density built areas; the Moran′s I index showed a clear expansion of the central urban area, which spread contiguously; and the standard deviational ellipse indicated the northeast was the dominant direction of urban expansion. These findings can provide important spatial control guidelines in the next round of national economic and social development planning, overall urban and rural planning, and land use planning.展开更多

Most of the current researches for machining line configuration and balancing problems are related to dedicated transfer lines with dedicated machine workstations. With growing trends towards great product variety and fluctuations in market demand, dedicated transfer lines are being replaced with flexible machining line composed of identical CNC machines. This paper deals with the line configuration and balancing problem for flexible machining lines. The objective is to assign operations to workstations and find the sequence of execution, specify the number of machines in each workstation while minimizing the line cycle time and total number of machines. This problem is subject to precedence, clustering, accessibility and capacity constraints among the features, operations, setups and workstations. The mathematical model and heuristic algorithm based on feature group strategy and polychromatic sets theory are presented to find an optimal solution. The feature group strategy and polychromatic sets theory are used to establish constraint model. A heuristic operations sequencing and assignment algorithm is given. An industrial case study is carried out, and multiple optimal solutions in different line configurations are obtained. The case studying results show that the solutions with shorter cycle time and higher line balancing rate demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. This research proposes a heuristic line configuration and balancing algorithm based on feature group strategy and polychromatic sets theory which is able to provide better solutions while achieving an improvement in computing time.展开更多

A numerical model is developed by using the commercial software Orca Flex. Hydrodynamics coefficients of the vessel are calculated by using a 3D diffraction/radiation panel program. First- and second-order wave forces are included in the calculations. Morison equation is used to compute the drag force on line elements representing the net. Drag coefficients are determined at every time step in the simulation considering the relative normal velocity between the structural elements and the fluid flow. The dynamic response of the coupled system is analyzed for various environments and net materials. The results of the study show the effects of solidity ratio of the net and vertical positions of the cage on the overall dynamic response of the system, confirming the viability of this type of configuration for future development of offshore aquaculture in deep waters.展开更多

This method reduces the three-dimension problem of the surface cracks into a quasi-one-dimension problem and can be used to analyze the surface cracked plate under various loading conditions. In this paper theoretical analyses and numerical verifications are carried out. The calculated results are reported, which indicate that the present method is efficient and can be used to analyze the surface crack problem on a personal computer.展开更多

This technique makes a compromise between electrolysis prevention and high flow rate performance. This technique should eliminate electrolytic bubble generation, electrodes wear and fluid propriety modification. All these side phenomena are prevented by considering isolated electrodes. The numerical presented results in this paper demonstrate that continuous MHD pumping is possible with isolated electrodes. The MHD excitation combines a high frequency altering current with a low frequency altering magnetic field. In order to validate our results, two independent theoretical methods for computing flow rate are followed. The two presented independent approaches show that high flow rate is possible even with isolated electrodes. To overcome the problem of dimensioning this kind of pumps, a generic numerical analysis is proposed. Hence, the pump performances as functions of the external parameter are studied and tools to calculate for a given fluid and the optimal high frequency regime are provided.展开更多

According to contents of major elements in samples, we selected lines of Si, Al, Fe, K, Ca, Mg, Na, Ti and Mn. These lines of 9 elements composed three characteristic spectral models which were the WSLM (Wide spectral line model), the PM (Peak model) and the PRM (Peak ratio model). The first and the second characteristic spectral model were divided into 9 kinds, as follows: the characteristic spectrum with 1 element, the characteristic spectrum with 2 elements, we can deduce the rest from this and the last one has 9 elements. The third model was divided into 8 kinds which were using AI as reference element. We analysed spectrums of the three models by BPNN. Experimental results shown that whether sorting or distinguishing these samples, identification accuracies of the PM were more than that of the PRM overall, the same as the WSLM did to the PM. While the selected number of elements was 5, 6 or 7, the identification accuracy of the WSLM could reach more than 90%. Continuing to add the number of elements to improve identification accuracy was not very obvious.展开更多

These findings can provide important spatial control guidelines in the next round of national economic and social development planning, overall urban and rural planning, and land use planning.

文摘Line configuration and balancing is to select the type of line and allot a given set of operations as well as machines to a sequence of workstations to realize high-efficiency production. This research proposes a heuristic line configuration and balancing algorithm based on feature group strategy and polychromatic sets theory which is able to provide better solutions while achieving an improvement in computing time.

文摘In the present study, the dynamic response of a coupled SPM-feeder-cage system under irregular waves and shear currents is analyzed. The results of the study show the effects of solidity ratio of the net and vertical positions of the cage on the overall dynamic response of the system, confirming the viability of this type of configuration for future development of offshore aquaculture in deep waters.
文摘The authors have developed a new line-spring boundary element method in the present paper, which combines the advantage of the line-spring model with that of the boundary element method. This method reduces the three-dimension problem of the surface cracks into a quasi-one-dimension problem and can be used to analyze the surface cracked plate under various loading conditions. In this paper theoretical analyses and numerical verifications are carried out. The calculated results are reported, which indicate that the present method is efficient and can be used to analyze the surface crack problem on a personal computer.
文摘In this work, a numerical study for designing a new kind of MHD (Magneto-Hydrn-Dynamic) pumps is presented. Hence, the pump performances as functions of the external parameter are studied and tools to calculate for a given fluid and the optimal high frequency regime are provided.

文摘The effect of ground properties with heat conduction between soil and ground loop heat exchangers(GLHEs)has been analyzed.A finite line source model proposed by Cui,Yang, and Fang is used.Far field radius is defined. The analyses for a 1.5m borehole line source in three kinds of soil conditions:damp and breeze(D.B.),damp and heavy(D.H.),and saturated and heavy(S.H.)are carried out.The results of the comparisons show that in the condition of continuous operation, the variation of the far field radius is related to soil thermal conductivity. The rate of heat transfer will decrease after long time operation. And then soil condition will not influence the far field radius obviously.
文摘The LIBS (Laser induced-breakdown spectroscopy) combined with BPNN (Back propagation neural network) was applied in rock sorting and distinguishing for 26 rock samples of 6 types. Continuing to add the number of elements to improve identification accuracy was not very obvious.
文摘A real-time workbench able to reproduce the same behavior as an indoor network is in order. Such a tool will help researchers and industrials extend the smart grid technology indoors and have a better acknowledgment of Smart Grid systems interoperability. In order to develop such a tool many approaches should be studied to choose the most suitable one by comparing the models and the technologies. The considered hardware are the embedded systems and the selected approach is the statistical one. It appears that the FlR filter is the most pertinent approach.

文摘Given factors such as reduced land availability for onshore wind farms, wind resource enrichment levels, and costs, there is a growing trend of establishing wind farms in deserts, the Gobi, and other arid regions. Therefore, the relationship between sanddust weather environments and wind turbine operations has garnered significant attention. To investigate the impact of wind turbine wakes on sand-dust transportation, this study employs large eddy simulation to model flow fields, coupled with an actuator line model for simulating rotating blades and a multiphase particle in cell model for simulating sand particles. The research focuses on a horizontal axis wind turbine model and examines the motion and spatiotemporal distribution characteristics of four typical sizes of sand particles in the turbine wake. The findings reveal that sand particles of varying sizes exhibit a spiral settling pattern after traversing the rotating plane of wind turbine blades, influenced by blade shedding vortex and gravity.Sand particles tend to cluster in the peripheries of the vortex cores of low vorticity in the wind turbine wake. The rotation of wind turbines generates a wake vortex structure that causes a significant clustering of sand particles at the tip vortex. As the wake distance increases, the particles that cluster at the turbine's tip gradually spread outward to approximately twice the rotor diameter and then begin to mix with the incoming flow environment.Wind turbines have a noticeable impact on sand-dust transportation, hindering their movement to a significant extent. The average sand-blocking rate exhibits a trend of initially increasing and then decreasing as the wake distance increases. At its peak, the sand-blocking rate reaches an impressive 67.55%.The presence of wind turbines induces the advanced settling of sand particles, resulting in a“triangular”distribution of the deposition within the ground projection area of the wake.
