Problems with College Students' English Listening and Speaking and Their Solutions——from the Perspective of Sociolinguistics

This study surveyed what problems and puzzles college students have in English speaking and listening. A questionnaire survey was conducted among 157 English-major students in South-Central University for Nationalities. The result suggests that they seemed to be very anxious in communicating in English. Their problems are analyzed from the perspective of sociolinguistics and traced back to the way they are taught. This study calls for awareness of the current problems in college English listening and speaking course and provides solutions to them.

A Brief Analysis and Evaluation of the Frequently Used College English Course Book——Listening and Speaking Course

This paper does some research and exploration of one of the most commonly used Chinese college English course book:Listening and Speaking Course(Second Edition 2010)compiled by Yu Shumei and Li Huiqin.It introduces the aims of the textbookand its structure.By evaluating the teaching functions of differnt parts,it can be safely concluded that this textbook is well quali-fied to be used.However,being inadequate in teaching listening strategies and lacking in teaching speaking strategies can affectstudents'listening and speaking in the long run.Therefore,it is strongly recommended that teachers should add more practicalstrategies and useful materials in their teaching procedures to make the textbook more applicable.

Teaching Listening and Speaking to Young Learners Through Folktales

Folktales are an interesting subject to be taught to young learners. It is one of the effective ways to make young learners understand English. This study describes the effect of using Balinese short stories to teach a class of young learners at Saraswati Primary School in Denpasar. The stories are an effective aid for teaching English as they have beautiful language, rhythmic refrains and repetitive sentence patterns. During the listening lesson, students are given pictures books （content stories） and occasionally they are set to listen to CDs. Exploration of campus-network-based listening and speaking

Computer-assisted language leaming is a trend in the language teaching field of the 21st century and it is also advocated by the latest college English curriculum requirements. To test this model, we＇ve conducted an experiment on a campus-network-based listening and speaking course with 869 students from the NAAU since the 2005-2006 academic years. It has been proved that the new model enjoys great advantages over the conventional teacher-and-recorder teaching, though it is not thoroughly free from limitations or problems. On the one hand, this new model may provide students with authentic language sample, richer materials, interactive platform, friendly context, ect; on the other hand, factors such as costly hardware and software, non-stopping changes, lack of talents and inadequate funds are all preventing it from playing its role to full extent. Thus counter measures should be taken as soon as possible to break the bottleneck restricting the model from further development.

The Strategies on the Chinese College Student＇s English Listening and Speaking Ability Based on MOOC

English is now, as a universal language, the main tool for communication among people all over the world. The English listening and speaking ability is the key to it.
