The aim of our study is to determine the factors associated with hypertension and diabetes comorbidity in the Department of Littoral in 2023. Study Setting and Methods: Our study took place in the Department of Littoral in Benin. It was a cross-sectional general population study conducted over a three-month period from April 10 to July 10, 2023. It included subjects aged 18 and over with or without a history of hypertension and/or diabetes. The sampling method was probabilistic and the technique used was a WHO three-stage cluster survey. The dependent variable is comorbidity of hypertension and diabetes. A logistic regression model was used to identify factors associated with hypertension-diabetes comorbidity. Results: The study population was predominantly female (59.9%). The mean age was 44 ± 17. A total of 48 (8.8%) of the subjects in the study suffered from both diabetes and hypertension. Factors associated with comorbidity of hypertension and diabetes were age ≥ 50 years (OR: 5.48;95% CI: 2.69 - 12.20;p = 0.001);male sex (OR: 2.98;95% CI: 1.39 - 6.46;p = 0.005);too much salt or salty sauce consumed (OR: 6.06;95% CI: 1.56 - 22.20;p = 0.034);abdominal obesity (OR: 6.12;95% CI: 2.79 - 14.3;p = 0.001). Conclusion: Hypertension and diabetes are emerging as major public health problems in Benin. The main associated factors were age, gender, the amount of salt or salty sauce consumed and abdominal obesity. A response is urgently needed to act on the factors identified in order to avoid possible complications and an increase in prevalence.展开更多

This is a case of LCA that was discovered incidentally in a 79-year-old woman who presented with a polycythemia at the time of consultation. The neoplasm was evaluated by ultrasound and computed tomography. The patient underwent a splenectomy that revealed LCA by pathological evaluation. The post-operative outcome was favorable with no complications or recurrent disease. This case presentation, clinical, radiographic, and pathological features of an uncommon splenic tumor can be studied in order to advance our knowledge in our understanding of LCA.展开更多

Through seven groups of static experiments carried out in a closed CO2-H2O system, basic conclusions can be drawn as follows: (1) the basic law of corrosion process in a transitional zone of seawater-freshwater in littoral karst areas is identical with that in the fresh water, i.e., the lithologic characteristics and rock structure are the main factors which control the development of littoral karst; (2) the mixture corrosion rate of the carbonate rock in the above transitional zone is faster than that in fresh water or seawater; (3) the mechanism for development of carbonate rocks differs at various pressures of CO2 in a transitional zone in littoral karst areas.展开更多

Usually a benign and incidental finding,LCA have been repeatedly reported in association with a variety of visceral malignancies and hold the potential for dissemination per se. We encountered a case of a 30 year old female who was diagnosed with solid pseudopapillary tumor of the head and distal pancreas by fine needle aspiration cytology. A distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy was performed in addition to a pylorus-preserving Whipple's procedure and cholecystectomy. Histopathological examination confirmed solid pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreasand showed multiple well-circumscribed anastomosing vascular channels in the spleen. The diagnosis of LCA of the spleen was confirmed by immunohistochemistry that revealed co-expression of endothelial cell marker,CD31 and CD34,along with histiocytic marker,CD68 by the vascular lining cells. LCA has been previously reported in association with colorectal and pancreatic adenocarcinoma, malignant lymphoma, myelodysplasia and autoimmune disorders. We report the first case of LCA associated with solid pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas.展开更多

A complex interreaction of stony material and Baikal water occurs on the stony littoral of Lake Baikal with an active participation of benthic and planktonic hydrobionts. Biogeochemical processes enable income of biophile elements providing productivity of stony littoral and hydrobionts biodiversity. A particular role in the littoral zone belongs to symbiotic organisms: lichens and sponges. They extract from the tocks a wide spectrum of macro- and micro- elements including phosphorus, fixe nitrogen and consume carbon. Biodiversity and bioproductivity of stony littoral depend on the diversity of petrographic composition of the rocks and on their geochemical peculiarities. Increase of anthropogenic impact onto the stony littoral manifested by income of biogenic elements and alien microbial cenosis flow results in degradation of primary aquatic biogeocenoses.展开更多

Environmental parameters were integrated, aimed at evaluation of the Littoral ecosystem functioning: Water Level Fluctuations Index (WLFI), commercial fish landings with respect to stock assessment, fingerling food sources and density distribution, the beach vegetation impact, spawning intensity of nest builder-mouth breeder tilapias. It is concluded that WLFI is not affecting reproduction whilst long-term low WL altitude reduces the intensity of nesting by Sarotherodon galilaeus and Tristramella simonis simonis. Low WL did not affect reproduction of Coptodon zillii (Syn. Tilapia zillii). Density of fingerlings was not correlated with Inundated Beach vegetation during WL decline. Nevertheless, submerged macrophytes and shadowing Tamarix trees were preferably utilized by fingerling shoals as documented in the north-eastern half open lagoons of the lake shallows (Beteicha).展开更多

In this semi-autobiographical novel, Lamming examines self-awareness and the process through which language and self-analysis may take shape on or be inspired by the shore's edge. Through the telling of personal stories, discussions of a colonial history, and with allusions to the social privations affecting the immediate community, Lamming represents the changing realities, the main characters ("G" and his friends) experience as they become socially aware; he highlights this transformative rise to consciousness through the use of littoral imagery in Chapters Six, Eleven, and Fourteen. In this essay, the author explores these representations using postcolonial, psychoanalytical, and phenomenological approaches, giving particular attention to Chapter Six, the longer chapter where Lamming creates a blueprint of the issues to which he will return in Chapters Eleven and Fourteen. Castle epitomizes the ways in which the littoral as trope has the potential to symbolically impact an author's text, especially a means for crafting an authorial language that demonstrates a young man's rise to consciousness and self-actualization on the shorelines of Barbados before he emigrates abroad.展开更多

文摘In a large eutrophic lake, the littoral zone is normally an area with high-density elevated aquatic plant life, including algal blooms, where the presence of reed wetlands allows the accumulation of algae. In this study, the impact of accumulated algal blooms in reed wetlands in the littoral zone s of Chaohu Lake was investigated seasonally from 2018 to 2019.The concentrations of chlorophyll a(Chl a),total nitrogen(TN),and total phosphorus(TP)were much higher in the reed-covered littoral zones(RCLZ)than in the unvegetated littoral zones(ULZ),indicating that more algal biomass was trapped and accumulated in the RCLZ.Algal biomass could be horizontally transported to downwind littoral zones under low wind speeds, favoring the establishment of blooms.Algal accumulation levels were highest in summer due to high water temperatures and algal biomasses.Likewise, the northern littoral zones were conducive to the development of large algal blooms because of the wind pattern. The values of TN,TP,Chl a,and loss on ignition in surface sediments were higher in the RCLZ than in the ULZ.Moreover, the diffusive fluxes of ammonium and soluble reactive pho sphorus were also higher in the RCLZ than in the ULZ.Considering the capability of reed wetlands to trap algae, mechanical salvage and other physical methods should be adopted to eliminate algal biomass when massive blooms accumulate in the RCLZ.

文摘The mechanism for development of littoral karst differs from that of inland karst, and the mixture corrosion effects are one of the most important factors that control the development of littoral karst. Through seven groups of static experiments carried out in a closed CO2-H2O system, basic conclusions can be drawn as follows: (1) the basic law of corrosion process in a transitional zone of seawater-freshwater in littoral karst areas is identical with that in the fresh water, i.e., the lithologic characteristics and rock structure are the main factors which control the development of littoral karst; (2) the mixture corrosion rate of the carbonate rock in the above transitional zone is faster than that in fresh water or seawater; (3) the mechanism for development of carbonate rocks differs at various pressures of CO2 in a transitional zone in littoral karst areas.

文摘BACKGROUND Littoral cell angioma(LCA)is a rare benign vascular tumor of the spleen.Given its rarity, standard diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations have yet to be developed for reported cases.Splenectomy is the only method of obtaining a pathological diagnosis and providing treatment to obtain a favorable prognosis.CASE SUMMARY A 33-year-old female presented with abdominal pain for one month.Computed tomography and ultrasound revealed splenomegaly with multiple lesions and two accessory spleens. The patient underwent laparoscopic total splenectomy and accessory splenectomy, and splenic LCA was confirmed by pathology.Four months after surgery, the patient presented with acute liver failure, was readmitted, rapidly progressed to multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and died.CONCLUSION Preoperative diagnosis of LCA is challenging. We systematically reviewed online databases to identify the relevant literature and found a close relationship between malignancy and immunodysregulation. When a patient suffers from both splenic tumors and malignancy or immune-related disease,LCA is possible.Due to potential malignancy, total splenectomy(including accessory spleen)and regular follow-up after surgery are recommended. If LCA is diagnosed after surgery,a comprehensive postoperative examination is needed.
文摘Littoral cell angiomas(LCA) of the spleen are vascular tumors of unknown etiology arising from the littoral cells of the splenic red pulp sinuses. We report the first case of LCA associated with solid pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas.
文摘The problem of biogenic income from rocks into a water ecosystem and of their use by hydrobionts is considered by the example of Lake Baikal biogeocenoses. Increase of anthropogenic impact onto the stony littoral manifested by income of biogenic elements and alien microbial cenosis flow results in degradation of primary aquatic biogeocenoses.
文摘A study of the Kinneret Littoral ecosystem is presented. Nevertheless, submerged macrophytes and shadowing Tamarix trees were preferably utilized by fingerling shoals as documented in the north-eastern half open lagoons of the lake shallows (Beteicha).
文摘In In the Castle of My Skin (hereafter Castle) (1983), the littoral as trope provides a means for discovering Lamming's authorial license, one that speaks to postcolonial and phenomenological aims. Castle epitomizes the ways in which the littoral as trope has the potential to symbolically impact an author's text, especially a means for crafting an authorial language that demonstrates a young man's rise to consciousness and self-actualization on the shorelines of Barbados before he emigrates abroad.
