The sensitivity of the localized surface plasmon sensor is 317 nm/RIU, and the FOM is predicted to be above 8, which is very high for a localized surface plasmon sensor. By employing the rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA) method, we analyze the distribution of the magnetic field and find that the sensing property of our proposed system is attributed to the interactions between the localized surface plasmon around the gold nanostrips and the surface plasmon polarition on the surface of the gold planar metallic film. These findings are important for developing high FOM localized surface plasmon sensors.展开更多

In this study, ...Propofol may produce memory impairment during anesthesia procedure. Local field potentials (LFPs) are used with increasing frequency in recent years to link neural activity to perception and cognition. In this study, effect of propofol on LFPs in rat’s prefrontal cortex during working memory task was evaluated. Young (approximately 3 month) male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into two group: propofol rats and control rats. Propofol rats received propofol at 0.9 mg/Kg·min intravenously for 2 h. After 12 h, LFPs of all rats were measured simultaneously from multiple electrodes placed in prefrontal cortex while rats were performing a working memory task in Y-maze. LFPs instantaneous phase were obtained by applying Hilbert transform, and cross-correlation coherence of LFPs was calculated. The results indicate that propofol decreased the correct rate and crosscorrelation coherence of LFPs on the first two days (p 0.05). Our results suggest that propofol can impair cross-correlation coherence of LFPs in the first two days, but not long time.展开更多

Seven dogs were trained to use a source of allocentric information (local and/or global cues) to locate a...The current study investigated whether domestic dogs encode local and/or global cues in spatial working memory. Seven dogs were trained to use a source of allocentric information (local and/or global cues) to locate an attractive object they saw move and disappear behind one of the three opaque boxes arrayed in front of them. To do so, after the disappearance of the target object and out of the dogs’ knowledge, all sources of allocentric information were simultaneously shifted to a new spatial position and the dogs were forced to follow a U-shaped pathway leading to the hiding box. Out of the seven dogs that were trained in the detour problem, only three dogs learned to use the cues that were moved from trial to trial. On tests, local (boxes and experimenter) and/or global cues (walls of the room) were systematically and drastically shifted to a new position in the testing chamber. Although they easily succeeded the control trials, the three dogs failed to use a specific source of allocentric information when local and global cues were put in conflict. In discussion, we explore several hypotheses to explain why dogs have difficulties to use allocentric cues to locate a hidden object in a detour problem and why they do not differentiate the local and global cues in this particular experimental setting.展开更多
Imaging plays an increasingly important role in the work up of prostate cancer(PCa) and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) is generally accepted as the most accurate and promising imaging modality in the local staging of...Imaging plays an increasingly important role in the work up of prostate cancer(PCa) and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) is generally accepted as the most accurate and promising imaging modality in the local staging of PCa due to its high spatial resolution and excellent soft tissue contrast. The quality and performance of MRI of the prostate has improved dramatically during the last decade. Mainly, the combination of morphological information and functional information on cell density, tissue perfusion or metabolism as provided in multi-parametric prostate MRI(mp MRI) has led to a substantial increase in lesion detection and characterization. The correlation between functional parameters as provided by MRI and the aggressiveness of PCa as determined by the Gleason Score may help in differentiating clinically signifi cant from indolent PCa non-invasively. Besides these pros, radiologists are confronted with an immense amount of information and standardized acquisition, interpretation and reporting of mp MRI is not yet a reality. Furthermore, prostate MRI availability is still limited to high volume centers in many countries; hence, it is not yet a routine tool in common daily practice. Hence, development of guidelines for standardized acquisition, interpretation andreporting of prostate MRI exams is urgently needed in order to provide useful information for treating clinicians. Preferably, multi-centric clinical studies comparing MRI fi ndings to step-section histological specimens are mandatory during the coming years. Furthermore, simplification of the acquisition must be achieved in order to make this imaging modality applicable for daily use in common uro-radiological practice.展开更多

One of the effective options for energy saving in terms of heat costs for the formation of routine thermal conditions of working areas of large-sized industrial premises is the replacement of traditional convective(wa...One of the effective options for energy saving in terms of heat costs for the formation of routine thermal conditions of working areas of large-sized industrial premises is the replacement of traditional convective(water)heating systems with systems,the main part of which are gas infrared emitters.But the mass introduction of such systems based on emitters was held back until recently by the lack of scientific and technical foundations for ensuring not only the routine thermal conditions of local working areas,but also ensuring acceptable concentrations of carbon dioxide,which is formed during the operation of a gas emitter.Solving the latter problem by the method of experimental selection of heating and air exchange modes is practically impossible due to the multivariate nature of possible solutions to this problem.Therefore,the purpose of the work is to analyze the results of theoretical studies of the possibility of ensuring an acceptable level of carbon dioxide concentrations in local working areas during the operation of gas infrared emitters and an air exchange system.Numerical modeling of heat and mass transfer processes under such conditions was performed in a fairly wide range of the main significant factors:air flow rate in the air exchange system from 0.01 to 0.04 kg/s,the position of the air inlet and outlet channels relative to the radiator and the local workplace(height from 0.3 to 4.1 m).It was found that by varying the numerical values of these factors,it is possible to ensure carbon dioxide concentrations in the local working area within the permissible limits of up to 1400 ppm.展开更多
