Existing methods of local search mostly focus on how to reach optimal solution.However,in some emergency situations,search time is the hard constraint for job shop scheduling problem while optimal solution is not necessary.In this situation,the existing method of local search is not fast enough.This paper presents an emergency local search(ELS) approach which can reach feasible and nearly optimal solution in limited search time.The ELS approach is desirable for the aforementioned emergency situations where search time is limited and a nearly optimal solution is sufficient,which consists of three phases.Firstly,in order to reach a feasible and nearly optimal solution,infeasible solutions are repaired and a repair technique named group repair is proposed.Secondly,in order to save time,the amount of local search moves need to be reduced and this is achieved by a quickly search method named critical path search(CPS).Finally,CPS sometimes stops at a solution far from the optimal one.In order to jump out the search dilemma of CPS,a jump technique based on critical part is used to improve CPS.Furthermore,the schedule system based on ELS has been developed and experiments based on this system completed on the computer of Intel Pentium(R) 2.93 GHz.The experimental result shows that the optimal solutions of small scale instances are reached in 2 s,and the nearly optimal solutions of large scale instances are reached in 4 s.The proposed ELS approach can stably reach nearly optimal solutions with manageable search time,and can be applied on some emergency situations. 展开更多

Wind energy has been widely applied in power generation to alleviate climate problems.The wind turbine layout of a wind farm is a primary factor of impacting power conversion efficiency due to the wake effect that reduces the power outputs of wind turbines located in downstream.Wind farm layout optimization(WFLO)aims to reduce the wake effect for maximizing the power outputs of the wind farm.Nevertheless,the wake effect among wind turbines increases significantly as the number of wind turbines increases in the wind farm,which severely affect power conversion efficiency.Conventional heuristic algorithms suffer from issues of low solution quality and local optimum for large-scale WFLO under complex wind scenarios.Thus,a chaotic local search-based genetic learning particle swarm optimizer(CGPSO)is proposed to optimize large-scale WFLO problems.CGPSO is tested on four larger-scale wind farms under four complex wind scenarios and compares with eight state-of-the-art algorithms.The experiment results indicate that CGPSO significantly outperforms its competitors in terms of performance,stability,and robustness.To be specific,a success and failure memories-based selection is proposed to choose a chaotic map for chaotic search local.It improves the solution quality.The parameter and search pattern of chaotic local search are also analyzed for WFLO problems. 展开更多

Necessary and Sufficient Conditions for Feasible Neighbourhood Solutions in the Local Search of the Job-Shop Scheduling Problem

The meta-heuristic algorithm with local search is an excellent choice for the job-shop scheduling problem(JSP).However,due to the unique nature of the JSP,local search may generate infeasible neighbourhood solutions.In the existing literature,although some domain knowledge of the JSP can be used to avoid infeasible solutions,the constraint conditions in this domain knowledge are sufficient but not necessary.It may lose many feasible solutions and make the local search inadequate.By analysing the causes of infeasible neighbourhood solutions,this paper further explores the domain knowledge contained in the JSP and proposes the sufficient and necessary constraint conditions to find all feasible neighbourhood solutions,allowing the local search to be carried out thoroughly.With the proposed conditions,a new neighbourhood structure is designed in this paper.Then,a fast calculation method for all feasible neighbourhood solutions is provided,significantly reducing the calculation time compared with ordinary methods.A set of standard benchmark instances is used to evaluate the performance of the proposed neighbourhood structure and calculation method.The experimental results show that the calculation method is effective,and the new neighbourhood structure has more reliability and superiority than the other famous and influential neighbourhood structures,where 90%of the results are the best compared with three other well-known neighbourhood structures.Finally,the result from a tabu search algorithm with the new neighbourhood structure is compared with the current best results,demonstrating the superiority of the proposed neighbourhood structure. 展开更多

Enhanced Hybrid Equilibrium Strategy in Fog-Cloud Computing Networks with Optimal Task Scheduling

More devices in the Intelligent Internet of Things(AIoT)result in an increased number of tasks that require low latency and real-time responsiveness,leading to an increased demand for computational resources.Cloud computing’s low-latency performance issues in AIoT scenarios have led researchers to explore fog computing as a complementary extension.However,the effective allocation of resources for task execution within fog environments,characterized by limitations and heterogeneity in computational resources,remains a formidable challenge.To tackle this challenge,in this study,we integrate fog computing and cloud computing.We begin by establishing a fog-cloud environment framework,followed by the formulation of a mathematical model for task scheduling.Lastly,we introduce an enhanced hybrid Equilibrium Optimizer(EHEO)tailored for AIoT task scheduling.The overarching objective is to decrease both the makespan and energy consumption of the fog-cloud system while accounting for task deadlines.The proposed EHEO method undergoes a thorough evaluation against multiple benchmark algorithms,encompassing metrics likemakespan,total energy consumption,success rate,and average waiting time.Comprehensive experimental results unequivocally demonstrate the superior performance of EHEO across all assessed metrics.Notably,in the most favorable conditions,EHEO significantly diminishes both the makespan and energy consumption by approximately 50%and 35.5%,respectively,compared to the secondbest performing approach,which affirms its efficacy in advancing the efficiency of AIoT task scheduling within fog-cloud networks. 展开更多

Safety patrol inspection in chemical industrial parks is a complex multi-objective task with multiple degrees of freedom.Traditional pointer instruments with advantages like high reliability and strong adaptability to harsh environment,are widely applied in such parks.However,they rely on manual readings which have problems like heavy patrol workload,high labor cost,high false positives/negatives and poor timeliness.To address the above problems,this study proposes a path planning method for robot patrol in chemical industrial parks,where a path optimization model based on improved iterated local search and random variable neighborhood descent(ILS-RVND)algorithm is established by integrating the actual requirements of patrol tasks in chemical industrial parks.Further,the effectiveness of the model and algorithm is verified by taking real park data as an example.The results show that compared with GA and ILS-RVND,the improved algorithm reduces quantification cost by about 24%and saves patrol time by about 36%.Apart from shortening the patrol time of robots,optimizing their patrol path and reducing their maintenance loss,the proposed algorithm also avoids the untimely patrol of robots and enhances the safety factor of equipment. 展开更多

This study examines the multicriteria scheduling problem on a single machine to minimize three criteria: the maximum cost function, denoted by maximum late work (V<sub>max</sub>), maximum tardy job, denoted by (T<sub>max</sub>), and maximum earliness (E<sub>max</sub>). We propose several algorithms based on types of objectives function to be optimized when dealing with simultaneous minimization problems with and without weight and hierarchical minimization problems. The proposed Algorithm (3) is to find the set of efficient solutions for 1//F (V<sub>max</sub>, T<sub>max</sub>, E<sub>max</sub>) and 1//(V<sub>max</sub> + T<sub>max</sub> + E<sub>max</sub>). The Local Search Heuristic Methods (Descent Method (DM), Simulated Annealing (SA), Genetic Algorithm (GA), and the Tree Type Heuristics Method (TTHM) are applied to solve all suggested problems. Finally, the experimental results of Algorithm (3) are compared with the results of the Branch and Bound (BAB) method for optimal and Pareto optimal solutions for smaller instance sizes and compared to the Local Search Heuristic Methods for large instance sizes. Iterated local search(ILS)is used to construct the optimal experimental designs for multi-dimensional constrained spaces,in which the inner loop is based on the stochastic coordinate-exchange(SCE)algorithm.Every time a local optimal solution is found by the SCE algorithm,the perturbation operator is applied to it,and then a new solution is explored in the areas where the exchange of coordinates may produce improvement,so as to retain the features and attributes of the current optimal solution and avoid the defects of random restart.We implement the iterated local coordinate-exchange algorithm for experimental designs in the multi-dimensional constrained spaces.In addition,sensitivity analysis was conducted to analyze the impacts of the parameters on the performance of the proposed algorithm.Also we compared the performance of the proposed algorithm to the SCE algorithm using the random restart strategy.The analysis shows that the proposed algorithm is better than the SCE algorithm in terms of efficiency and quality,especially in the experimental designs for high-dimensional constrained space. 展开更多

However,compared with the massive research on traditional job shop problem,little attention has been paid on the no-wait constraint.Therefore,in this paper, we have dealt with this problem by decomposing it into two sub-problems, the timetabling and sequencing problems,in traditional frame work. A new efficient combined non-order timetabling method,coordinated with objective of total tardiness,is proposed for the timetabling problems. As for the sequencing one,we have presented a modified complete local search with memory combined by crossover operator and distance counting. The entire algorithm was tested on well-known benchmark problems and compared with several existing algorithms.Computational experiments showed that our proposed algorithm performed both effectively and efficiently. 展开更多

In order to prove the adaptability and validity of the improved genetic algorithm, optimization problems of multimodal functions with equal peaks, unequal peaks and complicated peak distribution are discussed. The simulation results show that compared to other niching methods, this improved genetic algorithm has obvious potential on many respects, such as convergence speed, solution accuracy, ability of global optimization, etc. 展开更多

The first methodology adopts twophase strategy. In the first phase, the improved savings method is used to assign customers to appropriate vehicles. In the second phase, the iterated dynasearch algorithm is adopted to route each selected vehicle with the assigned customers. The iterated dynasearch algorithm combines dynasearch algorithm with iterated local search algorithm based on random kicks. The second methodplogy adopts the idea of cyclic transfer which is performed by using dynamic programming algorithm, and the iterated dynasearch algorithm is also embedded in it. The test results show that both methodologies generate better solutions than the traditional method, and the second methodology is superior to the first one. 展开更多

The proposed hybrid neighborhood is not only efficient in local search, but also can help overcome entrapments while search procedure get trapped at local optima and carry the search to areas of the feasible set with better prospect. New strategies used for breaking out of entrapments are presented and they are helpful for the procedure to improve local optima. A performance comparison of the proposed method with some best-performing algorithms on all 10-job, 10-machine benchmark problems and the other two problems generated by Fisher and Thompson (ie., FT6 and FT20)is made. By studying quantum dynamics of the adiabatic search algorithm with the equivalent two-level system, we derive the transi- tionless driving Hamiltonian for the local adiabatic quantum search algorithm. We found that when adding a transitionless quantum driving term Ht~ (t) on the local adiabatic quantum search algorithm, the success rate is 1 exactly with arbitrary evolution time by solving the time-dependent Schr6dinger equation in eigen-picture. Moreover, we show the reason for the drastic decrease of the evolution time is that the driving Hamiltonian increases the lowest eigenvalues to a maximum of 展开更多

Local search methods are convenient alternatives for solving discrete optimization problems(DOPs).These easy-to-implement methods are able to find approximate optimal solutions within a tolerable time limit.It is known that the quality of the initial solution greatly affects the quality of the approximated solution found by a local search method.In this paper,we propose to take the initial solution as a random variable and learn its preferable probability distribution.The aim is to sample a good initial solution from the learned distribution so that the local search can find a high-quality solution.We develop two different deep network models to deal with DOPs established on set(the knapsack problem)and graph(the maximum clique problem),respectively.The deep neural network learns the representation of an optimization problem instance and transforms the representation to its probability vector.Experimental results show that given the initial solution sampled from the learned probability distribution,a local search method can acquire much better approximate solutions than the randomly-sampled initial solution on the synthesized knapsack instances and the Erd?s-Rényi random graph instances.Furthermore,with sampled initial solutions,a classical genetic algorithm can achieve better solutions than a random initialized population in solving the maximum clique problems on DIMACS instances.Particularly,we emphasize that the developed models can generalize in dimensions and across graphs with various densities,which is an important advantage on generalizing deep-learning-based optimization algorithms. 展开更多

Satellite observation scheduling plays a significant role in improving the efficiency of satellite observation systems.Although many scheduling algorithms have been proposed,emergency tasks,characterized as importance and urgency(e.g.,observation tasks orienting to the earthquake area and military conflict area),have not been taken into account yet.Therefore,it is crucial to investigate the satellite integrated scheduling methods,which focus on meeting the requirements of emergency tasks while maximizing the profit of common tasks.Firstly,a pretreatment approach is proposed,which eliminates conflicts among emergency tasks and allocates all tasks with a potential time-window to related orbits of satellites.Secondly,a mathematical model and an acyclic directed graph model are constructed.Thirdly,a hybrid ant colony optimization method mixed with iteration local search(ACO-ILS) is established to solve the problem.Moreover,to guarantee all solutions satisfying the emergency task requirement constraints,a constraint repair method is presented.Extensive experimental simulations show that the proposed integrated scheduling method is superior to two-phased scheduling methods,the performance of ACO-ILS is greatly improved in both evolution speed and solution quality by iteration local search,and ACO-ILS outperforms both genetic algorithm and simulated annealing algorithm. 展开更多

The batch splitting scheduling problem has recently become a major target in manufacturing systems, and the researchers have obtained great achievements, whereas most of existing related researches focus on equal-sized and consistent-sized batch splitting scheduling problem, and solve the problem by fixing the number of sub-batches, or the sub-batch sizes, or both. Under such circumstance and to provide a practical method for production scheduling in batch production mode, a study was made on the batch splitting scheduling problem on alternative machines, based on the objective to minimize the makespan. A scheduling approach was presented to address the variable-sized batch splitting scheduling problem in job shops trying to optimize both the number of sub-bathes and the sub-batch sizes, based on differential evolution(DE), making full use of the finding that the sum of values of genes in one chromosome remains the same before and after mutation in DE. Considering before-arrival set-up time and processing time separately, a variable-sized batch splitting scheduling model was established and a new hybrid algorithm was brought forward to solve both the batch splitting problem and the batch scheduling problem. A new parallel chromosome representation was adopted, and the batch scheduling chromosome and the batch splitting chromosome were treated separately during the global search procedure, based on self-adaptive DE and genetic crossover operator, respectively. A new local search method was further designed to gain a better performance. A solution consists of the optimum number of sub-bathes for each operation per job, the optimum batch size for each sub-batch and the optimum sequence of sub-batches. Computational experiments of four test instances and a realistic problem in a speaker workshop were performed to testify the effectiveness of the proposed scheduling method. The study takes advantage of DE's distinctive feature, and employs the algorithm as a solution approach, and thereby deepens and enriches the content of batch splitting scheduling. 展开更多

In our algorithm, a novel pheromone-based crossover operator is advanced that utilizes both local and global information to construct offspring. In addition, a local search procedure is integrated into the GA to accelerate convergence.
