The algebraic structure of SO (4) is same as to that ofSU(2)L x SU(2)R. It is shown that the spontaneous symmetry breaking results three massive as well as three massless gauge bosons. The standard model theory according to which there exist three massive gauge bosons and a massless one is emerged from this model. In the framework ofSU(2)L x SU(2)R a small Dirac neutrino mass is derived. It is also shown that such mass term may vanish with a special choice. The Majorana mass term is not considered here and thus in this model the neutrino mass does not follow seesaw structure. 展开更多

As a topic of “quantum color dynamics”, we study various mass generation of colored particles and gluonic dressing effect in a non-perturbative manner, using the Schwinger-Dyson (SD) formalism in (scalar) QCD. First, we review dynamical quark-mass generation in QCD in the SD approach as a typical fermion-mass generation via spontaneous chiral-symmetry breaking. Second, using the SD formalism for scalar QCD, we investigate the scalar diquark, a bound-state-like object of two quarks, and its mass generation, which is clearly non-chiral-origin. Here, the scalar diquark is treated as an extended colored scalar field, like a meson in effective hadron models, and its effective size R is introduced as a form factor. As a diagrammatical difference, the SD equation for the scalar diquark has an additional 4-point interaction term, in comparison with the single quark case. The diquark size R is taken to be smaller than a hadron, R ~ 1 fm, and larger than a constituent quark, R ~ 0.3 fm. We find that the compact diquark with R ~ 0.3 fm has a large effective mass of about 900 MeV, and therefore such a compact diquark is not acceptable in effective models for hadrons. We also consider the artificial removal of 3- and 4-point interaction, respectively, to see the role of each term, and find that the 4-point interaction plays the dominant role of the diquark self-energy. From the above two different cases, quarks and diquarks, we guess that the mass generation of colored particles is a general result of non-perturbative gluonic dressing effect. 展开更多

We present a pedagogical overview of the nonperturbative mechanism that endows gluons with a dynamical mass. This analysis is performed based on pure Yang-Mills theories in the Landau gauge, within the theoretical framework that emerges from the combination of the pinch technique with the background field method. In particular, we concentrate on the Schwinger-Dyson equation satisfied by the gluon propagator and examine the necessary conditions for obtaining finite solutions within the infrared region. The role of seagull diagrams receives particular attention, as do the identities that enforce the cancellation of all potential quadratic divergences. We stress the necessity of introducing nonperturbative massless poles in the fully dressed vertices of the theory in order to trigger the Schwinger mechanism, and explain in detail the instrumental role of these poles in maintaining the Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin symmetry at every step of the mass-generating procedure. The dynamical equation governing the evolution of the gluon mass is derived, and its solutions are determined numerically following implementation of a set of simplifying assumptions. The obtained mass function is positive definite, and exhibits a power law running that is consistent with general arguments based on the operator product expansion in the ultraviolet region. A possible connection between confinement and the presence of an inflection point in the gluon propagator is briefly discussed. 展开更多

Mass selection for fast growth was conducted in three Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas) stocks from China, Japan and Korea using previously established lines (CS1, JS1, and KS1). To determine whether continuous progress can be achieved by selection for growth, the progeny of three second-generation Pacific oyster lines was selected for shell height and evaluated via a 400-day farming experiment. When harvested at the end of the experiment, the selected crosses of CS2, JS2, and KS2 lines grew by 9.2%, 10.2% and 9.6% larger than the control crosses, respectively. During grow-out stage, the genetic gain of three selected lines was (10.2 ± 1.4)%, (10.4 ± 0.3)%, and (8.4 ± 1.6)%, respectively; and the corresponding realized heritability was 0.457 ± 0.143, 0.312 ± 0.071 and 0.332 ± 0.009, respectively. These results indicated that the selection for fast growth achieved steady progress in the second generation of oyster. Our work provides supportive evidence for the continuity of the Pacific oyster selective breeding program. 展开更多

The particle physics Standard Model involves three charge 0 neutrinos, three charge e leptons, three charge (2/3)e quarks, and three charge −(1/3)e quarks, where e is electron charge. However, the Standard Model cannot explain why there are three generations of particles in each charge state and makes no predictions relating to quark and lepton masses. This analysis, treating Standard Model particles as spheres with radii 1/4 the particle Compton wavelength, explains three, and only three fermions are in each charge state and relates first generation quark masses to the electron mass. 展开更多

Based on the external field approach and the differential form of Ward identity, we derive a more compact formula for the particle-number susceptibility in QED3 at finite temperature. Using the zero frequency approximation the numerical value of the particle-number susceptibility is calculated in the Dyson-Schwinger approach for the case that the number of fermion flavours equals one and two, respectively. An enhanced fluctuation of the particlenumber density is observed across the transition temperature, which should be an essential characteristic of chiral phase transition in QED3. 展开更多

We calculate the rate of change of the atomic energy for the atom. The presence of the boundary modifies the quantum fluctuations of the scalar field, which in turn modifies the rate of change of the atomic energy. It is found that the modifications induced by the presence of a boundary make the spontaneous radiation rate of an excited atom to oscillate near the boundary and this oscillatory behaviour may offer a possible opportunity for experimental tests for geometrical (boundary) effects in flat spacetime. 展开更多

We examine the random motion of a charged test particle with a nonzero classical velocity driven by quantum electromagnetic vacuum fluctuations in a cylindrical spacetime and calculate both the velocity and position dispersions of the test particle. It is found that the dispersions display different behaviour in different directions. These differences can be understood as a result of the topology of the configuration and initial physical conditions. 展开更多
