In this paper, a simple and practical approach to detect faults of marine diesel engine is studied. According to a set of sensing data, the fitting equation of each parameter changing with the running state of diesel engine was fitted statistically. Then, the threshold range of each parameter changing with the running state of diesel engine was fitted. During fault diagnosis, the real-time parameters of the sensor in the current running state were calculated according to the real-time running data. If the parameters exceed the threshold range, it is abnormal operation. Because the sensor signal corresponds to the operation status of each specific component, the abnormal evaluation directly indicates the specific fault. Experimental results show that the method has a good practical effect.展开更多

文摘In the organizational context of marine engineering, employee individual often prefers to concentrate herself to the day-to-day routine job,but to shirk the responsibilities of the Information Security Policies(ISPs)compliance, after she has been delegated by the employer to perform the two different tasks in the same time period. This would lead to negative influences on the security of marine information systems and the employee’s routine job performance. In view of the task structures of employee’s routine job and marine ISPs compliance, the variables of emphasis on scheduling are incorporated into a multi-task principal-agent model to explore the optimal incentive scheme to motivate and control the employees to select appropriate effort levels for conducting the two highly structured tasks. The role of emphasis on scheduling on the incentive intensities for the two tasks have been clarified through modeling and simulation, and the corresponding incentive tactics are suggested. The new two-task incentive scheme is expected to provide useful insight for understanding and controlling marine engineering employee’s routine job and ISPs compliance behavior.

文摘The future inundation by storm surge on coastal areas are currently ill-defined.With increasing global sealevel due to climate change, the coastal flooding by storm surge is more and more frequently, especially in coastal lowland with land subsidence. Therefore, the risk assessment of such inundation for these areas is of great significance for the sustainable socio-economic development. In this paper, the authors use Elevation-Area method and Regional Ocean Model System(ROMS)model to assess the risk of the inundation of Bohai Bay by storm surge. The simulation results of Elevation-Area method show that either a 50-year or 100-year storm surge can inundate coastal areas exceeding 8000 km^(2);the numerical simulation results based on hydrodynamics, considering ground friction and duration of the storm surge high water, show that a 50-year or 100-year storm surge can only inundate an area of over 2000 km^(2),which is far less than 8000 km^(2);while,when taking into account the land subsidence and sea level rise, the very inundation range will rapidly increase by 2050 and 2100.The storm surge will greatly impact the coastal area within about 10-30 km of the Bohai Bay,in where almost all major coastal projects are located. The prompt response to flood disaster due to storm surge is urgently needed, for which five suggestions have been proposed based on the geological background of Bohai Bay.This study may offer insight into the development of the response and adaptive plans for flooding disasters caused by storm surge.

文摘Nowadays alternative and innovative energy recovery solutions are adopted on board ships to reduce fuel consumption and harmful emissions.According to this, the present work compares the engine exhaust gas waste heat recovery and hybrid turbocharger technologies, which are used to improve the efficiency of a dual-fuel four-stroke(DF)marine engine. Both solutions aim to satisfy partly or entirely the ship’s electrical and/or thermal loads. For the engine exhaust gas waste heat recovery, two steam plant schemes are considered:the single steam pressure and the variable layout(single or dual steam pressure plant). In both cases,a heat recovery steam generator is used for the electric power energy generation through a steam turbine. The hybrid turbocharger is used to provide a part of the ship’s electric loads as well. The thermodynamic mathematical models of DF engines, integrated with the energy recovery systems, are developed in a Matlab-Simulink environment, allowing the comparison in terms of performance at different engine loads and fuels, which are Natural Gas(NG)and High Fuel Oil(HFO).The use of NG always involves better efficiency of the system for all the engine working conditions. It results that the highest efficiency value achievable is 56%at 50%maximum continuous rating(MCR)engine load.
文摘In comparison to onshore facilities, ships, and their machinery are subjected to challenging external influences such as rolling, vibration, and continually changing air&cooling water temperatures in the marine environment. However, these factors are typically neglected,or their consequences are deemed to have little effect on machinery, the environment,or human life.In this study, seasonal air&seawater temperature effects on marine diesel engine performance parameters and emissions are investigated by using a full-mission engine room simulator.A tanker ship two-stroke main engine MAN B&W 6S50 MC-C with a power output of 8600 kW is employed during the simulation process.Furthermore, due to its diverse risks, the Marmara Region is chosen as the application area for real-time average temperature data.Based on the research findings, even minor variations in seasonal temperatures have a significant influence on certain key parameters of a ship’s main engine including scavenge pressure, exhaust temperatures, compression and combustion pressures, fuel consumption, power, and NOx-SOx-COx emissions. For instance, during the winter season, the cylinder compression pressure(pc)is recorded at 94 bar, while the maximum pressure(pz)reaches 110 bar.In the summer,pc experiences a decrease of 81 bar, while pz is measured at 101 bar.The emission of nitrogen oxides(NOx)exhibits a measurement of 784 parts per million(ppm)during winter and 744 in summer. The concentration of sulfur oxides(SOx)is recorded at 46 ppm in winter and 53 in summer.Given the current state of global warming and climate change,it is an undeniable fact that the impact of these phenomena will inevitably escalate.

文摘Natural gas/diesel dual-fuel combustion strategy has a great potential to reduce emissions for marine engines while the high fuel consumption is the major problem.Pre-chamber system is commonly employed as the ignition system on large-bore dual-fuel marine engines especially under lean-burn condition, due to its advanced ignition stability and engine efficiency. However, the ignition and combustion mechanism in such dual-fuel pre-chamber engine is still unclear and the effects of in-cylinder swirl flow and mixture stratification on combustion require further investigation specifically. This paper numerically studied the detailed ignition mechanism and combustion process in a marine engine equipped with a pre-chamber ignition system, and revealed the flame development process in main chamber. Moreover, the effects of mixture stratification and swirl ratio on the combustion rate and further engine thermal efficiency are investigated under decoupled condition. The results mainly show that the jet flame develops along the pre-chamber orifice centerline at the initial stage and premixed combustion play an important role, while after that, heat release zone only exist at flame surface, and premixed flame propagation controls the combustion process. In addition, with higher swirl ratio the combustion rate increases significantly due to the wider ignition area.Mixture stratification degree plays a role in accelerating the combustion, either too high or too low stratification degree reduce the combustion rate, while a moderate stratification increases the combustion rate. And appropriate stratification degree by verifying the gas injection parameters can reduce fuel consumption in 0.3%.
文摘The fuel consumption of a ship has always been an important research topic, but nowadays its importance has even increased as it is directly related to a ship’s greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions, which is now tightly regulated. In this paper, such a dynamic model is presented. The ship’s resistance in calm water and propeller’s performance in open water are required as input. The hull efficiency is estimated empirically. The diesel engine is modelled by a first-order transfer function with a delayed response and its performance is calibrated with the data from the manufacturer’s catalogue.A governor is applied to maintain the pre-set engine’s rotational speed and to control the engine fuel rate.A slope limiter is employed to approximate the actual engine operation during engine transients. The default values can be obtained from the manufacturer engine load acceptance diagram. The developed model is implemented in MATLAB SIMULINK environment. After validation against third-party published results, the influence of using different types of governors on ship speed and fuel consumption is investigated. The model is also applied to simulate the fuel consumption of a ship during a typical acceleration manoeuvre and the scenario of a real ship encountering harsh weather conditions.

文摘The existing genetic models of the South China Sea(SCS)include an extrusion model of the Indochina Peninsula,a back-arc extension model, and a subduction and dragging model of the Proto-South China Sea(PSCS).However, none of these models has been universally accepted because they do not fully match a large number of geological phenomena and facts.By examining the regional tectonics and integrating them with measured data for the SCS,in this study,a back-arc spreading-sinistral shear model is proposed. It is suggested that the SCS is a back-arc basin formed by northward subduction of the PSCS and its formation was triggered by left-lateral strike-slip motion due to the northward drift of the Philippine Sea Plate. The left-lateral strike-slip fault on the western margin caused by the Indo-Eurasian collision changed the direction of the Southwest Sub-basin's spreading axis from nearly E–W to NE–SW,and subduction retreat caused the spreading ridge to jump southward. This study summarizes the evolution of the SCS and adjacent regions since the Late Mesozoic.

文摘To study the quantitative relationship between surface sedimentary diatoms and water depth,67 surface samples were collected for diatom analysis on eight profiles with water depth variation from the muddy intertidal zone to the shallow sea area in North-Central Bohai Bay,China. The results showed that the distribution of diatoms changed significantly in response to the change in water depth.Furthermore, the quantitative relationship between the distribution of dominant diatom species, their assemblages, and the water depth was established. The water depth optima for seven dominant species such as Cyclotella striata/stylorum,Paralia sulcata, and Coscinodiscus perforatus and the water depth indication range of seven diatom assemblages were obtained in the study area above the water depth(elevation)of-10 m.The quantitative relationship between surface sedimentary diatoms and water depth provides a proxy index for diatom-paleo-water depth reconstruction in the strata in Bohai Bay,China.
