Study on the Protection of Sites of“Maritime Silk Road”in Haikou from the Perspective of World Cultural Heritage

The sites of Maritime Silk Road in Haikou City are composed of sites of navigation and trade,religious temples and stone monuments,urban construction and coastal defense scattered on the south bank of the Qiongzhou Strait.They played a key role in the formation and shaping of the settlements in Haikou City,recorded the process of intercommunication and integration between Chinese civilization and other regional cultures,and witnessed the germination,flourishing and inheritance of Haikou’s unique marine culture.The mixture of points,lines and planes blends with the urban area and coastline of Haikou City in spatial distribution.In this paper,from the perspective of world cultural heritage,some suggestions for the protection planning of sites of Maritime Silk Road in Haikou City were proposed based on the analysis of historical and geographical background,comparison of domestic and foreign similar sites,and evaluation of cultural heritage value.

The analysis of gales over the “Maritime Silk Road” with remote sensing data

The 21st century ＂Maritime Silk Road＂ strategy is a significant part of the belt and road initiatives of China. The cognition and investigation of ocean environment is essential and necessary in these regions which will provide scientific reference for many fields such as navigation, ocean engineering, and disaster prevent and reduction. A high-resolution cross-calibrated multi-platform wind product is used to analyze gales over the Maritime Silk Road. The yearly mean speed and space distribution of gale, and the frequencies and trends of gale and extreme wind speed are analyzed. The results show that relatively high pools of gale are mainly located in the waters of the Arabian Sea, the Somali Sea, Indo-China Peninsula sea area, and Bay of Bengal in the summer. The gale frequency of the Somali Sea is more than 90%. Overall, the gale days increase year by year in the majority of the South China Sea and the northern Indian Ocean, especially in the autumn and the winter.

Medical Culture about Lignum Aquilariae Resinatum and its Maritime Silk Road

Initially,Chen Xiang(沉香Lignum Aquilariae Resinatum)was exotic,but it has been playing an important role in the development of traditional Chinese culture and medicine.This article explores the reason for differences in the quality of ancient and modern Chen Xiang(沉香Lignum Aquilariae Resinatum)by analyzing the essential factors including the prosperity and decline of Maritime Silk Road,the relocation of the producing area,and the process of aroma forming.Based on the development and application of Chen Xiang(沉香Lignum Aquilariae Resinatum)in Chinese literature and art,traditional Chinese medicine,and folk life over the past 2000-odd years,this article puts contends that Chen Xiang(沉香Lignum Aquilariae Resinatum),which is endowed with the connotation of Chinese culture and health,should assume its new role as the traditional Chinese medical and cultural carrier on the New Silk Road.

Hazard analysis of tsunami disaster on the Maritime Silk Road

The Maritime Silk Road is not only a passageway for business and trade, but also the road of friendship between eastern and western civilizations. The Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 caused major damage to several coastal countries. Tsunami occurrence regularity and hazard analysis are needed to ensure economic and cultural exchange on the Maritime Silk Road. To explore and identify tsunami hazard on the Maritime Silk Road, the spatial and temporal characteristics of historical tsunami events were given out. Some useful information hidden in historical tsunamis was searched from source parameters, such as seismic magnitude, focal depth and water depth. The tsunami possibility in the case of earthquake occurrence was also studied, exploring the probability of tsunami caused by different magnitudes. The analysis result shows that tsunamis on the Maritime Silk Road mainly occurred in 8 major tectonic faults, each of which has different tsunami occurrence regularity. On the basis of statistical analysis, a numerical model was used to simulate the potential tsunamis and show the tsunami hazard levels along the coast of Maritime Silk Road. The research results of this paper can help the tsunami early warning and ensure the safety of economic and cultural exchanges on the Maritime Silk Road.

Study on the Synergy Policies of “Maritime Silk Road” Initiative

Based on the rapid promotion of"Maritime Silk Road"and the proposal of the Belt and Road initiative by China,this empirical study established the initiative of"Maritime Silk Road"economic entity through the participation of small and medium enterprises in trades along the maritime silk road.The study filled the gap of research on maritime economy in China,put forward the"maritime economy"priority development initiative,and thus discovered whether it's feasible to promote regional integration-the inspiration of maritime economy;it is of great significance in the economic sense to find out that how to face the interference of trade related to leading powers,and the inspiration of the manufacturing industry for maritime economy along the Belt and Road.

Mechanism and Path of Deepening the Marine Economic Cooperation between Guangdong and ASEAN in the Context of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Construction

The strategy of 21st Century Maritime Silk Road provides favorable policy environment for deepening the economic cooperation between Guangdong and ASEAN,actively promoting the transformation and upgrading of the marine economic structure,and establishing win-win marine economic cooperative development platform. For deepening the marine cooperation with ASEAN,Guangdong has significant advantages in geographical location,humanistic foundation,marine resources and economic strength. Based on interest demands of Guangdong and ASEAN,Guangdong should build the marine economic cooperation mode and mechanism from the overall mechanism and sub-mechanism,establish a three-dimensional marine economic cooperation path with characteristics of Guangdong and ASEAN from top design,to specific cooperation level,then to implementation of supporting facilities,and expand fields of the marine economic cooperation between Guangdong and ASEAN,to promote strategic construction of 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.

From Text to Field:Study on the Intercultural Communication of Music in Collection of Chinese Works and Translations by Matteo Ricci from the Perspective of Maritime Silk Road

In this paper,with Collection of Chinese Works by Matteo Ricci written by Zhu Weizheng and A summary Interpretation of Chinese literature of Matteo Ricci in Ming and Qing Dynasties written by Tang Kaijian as major research texts and historical basis,as well as intercultural communication as the major research method,the aesthetic adaptation of native music of traditional Chinese music,etiquette,sacrifice and religious customs under the description of Matteo Ricci is discussed and interpreted from the perspective of the spread of musical culture of the Maritime Silk Road,four stages of field investigation are planned,and related musical activities and local musical phenomena appearing in his literature have an on-site visit.In this way,the vital position and historical significance of Matteo Ricci’s cultural missionary activities in the music communication on the Maritime Silk Road are obtained.

Thai Chinese businessmen are important practitioners and supporters of China’s construction of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road,serving as important trendsetters among ASEAN countries with great significance.In this context,this paper analyses and presents the image of Thai Chinese businessmen and their identification with China under the framework of the report and discourse by taking the cover interview of the Chinese mainstream magazine@ManGu Bangkok in Thailand as an example,to show the sentiment and sense of belonging of overseas Chinese to their ancestral homeland,and to provide an emotional“link”for China and ASEAN countries in the mutually beneficial cooperation.

“Development First”:China’s Investment in Seaport Constructions and Operations along the Maritime Silk Road

Seaports are crucial pivots connecting a state’s national economy with the world economy.As the largest developing country and one of the largest seaport constructors and operators in the world,China insists on the importance of improving people’s livelihood by building key seaports infrastructure,airports,power plants,highways,and railways.Invited by the host countries,China has participated broadly in the construction and operations of commercial seaports along the Maritime Silk Road,which stretches from Southwest Asia to Eastern Africa and to the Mediterranean Sea and the Maghreb.Officials in Beijing argue that the fundamental task facing the majority of developing countries along the Maritime Silk Road is development,and suggest that“bread is more important than the ballot box”.One can anticipate that when the project is executed,the threats to China’s seaport construction will range from financial burdens,ethnic conflicts,attacks carried out by extremists,and cultural misunderstandings with the host nations to great power rivalries.

The Virtual Silk Road between China and the Arab States

In March 2015,China issued an action plan which described the main objectives of the Belt and Road Initiative(BRI).As part of the BRI,Beijing launched the Digital Silk Road(DSR)in 2015 with a loose mandate.It has since become a significant part of Beijing’s overall BRI strategy,under which China provides aid,political support,and other assistance to recipient states.In June 2014,Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the sixth session of the ministerial meeting of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum.During the meeting,Xi put forward the strategic concept of China-Arab cooperation mode as‘1+2+3,’with the‘3’including nuclear energy,aerospace and satellite technology and new energy.The two sides have agreed on the establishment of the China-Arab Centre for Technology Transfer,the construction of training centres for Arabian countries peaceful use of nuclear energy,and research on the use of China’s Beidou Navigation Satellite system in the Arab states.in Tunisia in April 2018.This paper will review the collaboration of China and the Arab states to implement a positive model of technological development and digital connectivity.Further,the ICT development of the Arab states in comparison to China will be investigated to explain changes observed in the countries ICT Exports.

“海上丝绸之路”沿线港口区位优势度的空间格局分析

Location advantages of ports refer to the current developments of ports based on their conditions, such as geographic location, traffic accessibility and hinterland economy, etc., and the spatial pattern of ports’ location advantages reflects the spatial distributions, the regularities and the correlations among their conditions for development. A good understanding of the spatial patterns of ports’ location advantages can help to better identify the relative advantages of ports, position ports’ functions and make strategic plans for development. This paper selected 1259 ports from 63 countries along the Maritime Silk Road as research objects and builds an accessing model to analyze their location advantages on the bases of six factors: the influence of strategic shipping pivot, the competitiveness of port location potential, port network status, the influence of city, the influence of traffic trunk, and road network density in hinterland. The study has the following three findings. Firstly, the location advantages of ports show a 'high-low-high' distribution pattern from the west to the east, displaying an obvious 'core-periphery' regionalized distribution. Secondly, most ports have high location advantages, mainly located in Strait of Malacca, the United Arab Emirates, northern Mediterranean coastal region and China-Japan region, the top 10 ports are mainly located in Singapore, China, Malaysia and Japan, indicating that the shipping industry in Asia-Pacific region has stepped to the far front of the global competition;slow economic growths, wars, far away from the Belt and Road countries or bad climate have low location advantages, mainly located in African coastal areas, Oceania, Northeast Europe and Russia. Thirdly, compared with the landward location advantages, the seaward location advantages have a higher influence, and different indicators of location advantages have different influences on the evaluation results, the competitiveness of port location potential being the core indicator.
