Renewable energy,such as wind and solar energy,may vary signifi cantly over time and locations depending on the weather and the climate conditions.This leads to the supply uncertainty in the electricity(power) market with renewable energy integrated to power grid.In this paper,electricity in the market is classified into two types:stablesupply electricity(SSE) and unstablesupply electricity(USE).We investigate the investment and pricing strategies under the electricity supply uncertainty in wholesale and retail electricity market.In particular,our model combines the wholesale and retail market and capture the dominant players,i.e.,consumers,power plant(power operator),and electricity supplier.To derive the market behaviors of these players,we formulate the market decision problems as a multistage Stackelberg game.By solving the game model,we obtain the optimal,with closedform,wholesale investment and retail pricing strategy for the operator.We also obtain the energy supplier's best price mechanism numerically under certain assumption.We fi nd the price of SSE being about 1.4 times higher than that of USE will benefi t energy supplieroptimally,under which power plant's optimal strategy of investing is to purchase USE about 4.5 times much more than SSE. 展开更多

The capital-asset pricing model (CAPM) discovered by Sharp (1964), Lintner (1965) and Mossin (1966) is a general equilibrium model. It not only allows improved understanding of market behavior, but also provides practical benefits. At the same time, it also provides a practical mechanism for evaluating performance in a risk-adjusted mode. This model thus provides the initial basis for the practical implementation of the many aspects of portfolio analysis. However, Richard Roll (1977) has directed some biting criticism at the tests in affirming the CAPM. This criticism is aimed at one of the critical notions-the identifying of the efficient market portfolio. This paper solves the highly difficult problem by a geometrical way. It first denotes the efficient frontier of Markowitz model with the weights vector of portfolio. Then, it denotes the capital market line (CML) with the weights vector too. By the definition of the CML, the efficient market portfolio thus can be identified. 展开更多

We studied monthly seasonality in the top 50 Australian stocks across different industry sectors. Unlike other Australian studies, we examined monthly seasonality using stock return data of individual companies for the period of January 1980 through to August 2010. We found that stock returns of over half of the 50 companies are significantly positive in April and December, and most companies have low stock returns in October. Seven companies have higher returns in April than in other months of the year, most of which are banking and financial services companies, while six companies have lower returns in February than in other months. Although Australia has a July-June taxation cycle, we found that only three stocks have a July anomaly. The findings are inconsistent with the tax-loss selling hypothesis and other studies on the Australian equity markets (e.g., Brown, Keim, Kleidon, & Marsh, 1983; Brailsford & Easton, 1991). To improve the effectiveness of China's monetary policy, it is necessary to shift from the fixed exchange rate regime to the managed floating foreign exchange regime, gradually strengthening the central bank's rational control over the foreign exchange market and its construction of China's monetary market. Export Competition in China: Evidence from Data at Provincial Level

Through an analysis of the effects of Guangdong on exports from other provinces, this paper examines China's interregional relationships regarding exports. We utilize provincial level data from 1998 to 2008 and apply the system GMM to estimate an empirical model derived from the gravity equation. The results indicate that Guangdong significantly crowds out exports from other provinces. Coastal provinces are less affected than their non-coastal counterparts. In coastal areas, the displacement effect on the Yangtze River Delta is less than that on the Pan Bohai Rim. Further research reveals that the improvements in service industries, labor productivity, capital-labor ratio, and agglomeration of manufacturing industries have significantly reduced export competition. Additionally, a province with a larger market potential or a lower degree of market disintegration is less affected by Guangdong's export competition. 展开更多

Since the collapse of the US sub-prime mortgage cri- sis, global markets have tightened considerably. I believe that the US io-year treasury bond yield will normalize back to 6% and the risk premi- um on bonds will also normalize. The interest rate on bonds for funding LBOs could increase by 4-5 percentage points from the bottom. Such an increase in funding costs would make most LBOs impossible. 展开更多
