Properties of the Schwabe cycles in solar activity are investigated by using wavelet transform. We study the main range of the Schwabe cycles of the solar activity recorded by relative sunspot numbers, and find that the main range of the Schwabe cycles is the periodic span from 8-year to 14-year. We make the comparison of 11-year’s phase between relative sunspot numbers and sunspot group numbers. The results show that there is some difference between two phases for the interval from 1710 to 1810, while the two phases are almost the same for the interval from 1810 to 1990. 展开更多

The 10.7 cm solar radio flux (F10.7), the value of the solar radio emission flux density at a wavelength of 10.7 cm, is a useful index of solar activity as a proxy for solar extreme ultraviolet radiation. It is meaningful and important to predict F10.7 values accurately for both long-term (months-years) and short-term (days) forecasting, which are often used as inputs in space weather models. This study applies a novel neural network technique, support vector regression (SVR), to forecasting daily values of F10.7. The aim of this study is to examine the feasibility of SVR in short-term F10.7 forecasting. The approach, based on SVR, reduces the dimension of feature space in the training process by using a kernel-based learning algorithm. Thus, the complexity of the calculation becomes lower and a small amount of training data will be sufficient. The time series of F10.7 from 2002 to 2006 are employed as the data sets. The performance of the approach is estimated by calculating the norm mean square error and mean absolute percentage error. It is shown that our approach can perform well by using fewer training data points than the traditional neural network. 展开更多

The curve of the global wavelet power spectrum peaks at 11-yr, 53-yr and 101-yr periods. The evolution of the amplitudes of the three periods is studied. The results show that around 1750 and 1800, the amplitude of the 53-yr period was much higher than that of the the 11-yr period, that the ca. 53-yr period was apparent only for the interval from 1725 to 1850, and was very low after 1850, that around 1750, 1800 and 1900, the amplitude of the 101-yr period was higher than that of the 11-yr period and that, from 1940 to 2000, the 11-yr period greatly dominates over the other two periods. 展开更多

This paper deduced the temporal evolution of the magnetic field through a series of high-resolution vector magnetograms and calculated the fine distribution map of current density during an X9.3-class flare eruptions using Ampère's law.The results show that a pair of conjugate current ribbons exist on both sides of the magnetic neutral line in this active region,and these conjugate current ribbons persist before,during,and after the flare.It was observed that the X9.3-class flare brightened in the form of a bright core and evolved into a double-ribbon flare over time.Importantly,the position of the double-ribbon flare matches the position of the current ribbons with high accuracy,and their morphologies are very similar.By investigating the complexity of current density and flare morphology,we discovered a potential connection between the eruption of major flares and the characteristics of current density. 展开更多

Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy(LIBS)has been applied to many fields for the quantitative analysis of diverse materials.Improving the prediction accuracy of LIBS regression models is still of great significance for the Mars exploration in the near future.In this study,we explored the quantitative analysis of LIBS for the one-dimensional Chem Cam(an instrument containing a LIBS spectrometer and a Remote Micro-Imager)spectral data whose spectra are produced by the Chem Cam team using LIBS under the Mars-like atmospheric conditions.We constructed a convolutional neural network(CNN)regression model with unified parameters for all oxides,which is efficient and concise.CNN that has the excellent capability of feature extraction can effectively overcome the chemical matrix effects that impede the prediction accuracy of regression models.Firstly,we explored the effects of four activation functions on the performance of the CNN model.The results show that the CNN model with the hyperbolic tangent(tanh)function outperforms the CNN models with the other activation functions(the rectified linear unit function,the linear function and the Sigmoid function).Secondly,we compared the performance among the CNN models using different optimization methods.The CNN model with the stochastic gradient descent optimization and the initial learning rate?=?0.0005 achieves satisfactory performance compared to the other CNN models.Finally,we compared the performance of the CNN model,the model based on support vector regression(SVR)and the model based on partial least square regression(PLSR).The results exhibit the CNN model is superior to the SVR model and the PLSR model for all oxides.Based on the above analysis,we conclude the CNN regression model can effectively improve the prediction accuracy of LIBS. 展开更多

We have obtained 2D spectra of Ha and CaII λ8542A for the flare of 1998 November 11, and derived its 2D velocity field and integrated intensity field. The velocity distribution shows that the red-shift and blue-shift velocities lie respectively in the northern and southern parts of the flare and that the maximum velocity seems to be located in two footpoints of the flare loop system. The integrated intensity distribution shows that the CaIIλ8542A line is formed at a lower height than the Ha line, we used 'multi-cloud model' (MCM) to obtain four parameters for the two lines (Doppler width, △λD, Doppler shift, △λ0, line source function, S, and optical depth at the line center, TO). We also estimated the column number densities of hydrogen at the second level, N2, and of the ionized calcium at the third level, N3, as well as the kinetic temperature, Tc. The wide Hα profile at the loop top may be explained by an overlapping of two or more elementary profiles. It is shown that the uncertainty in calibration does not affect the derived Doppler shift and line broadening, only the source function and optical depth. 展开更多

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the Xingnao Kaiqiao needling method for treating acute ischemic stroke.DATA SOURCES: We retrieved relevant randomized controlled trials involving Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture for treatment of acute ischemic stroke. The China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Weipu Information Resources System, Wanfang Medical Data System, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Cochrane Library, and Pub Med were searched from June 2006 to March 2016.DATA SELECTION: We analyzed randomized and semi-randomized clinical controlled trials that compared Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture with various control treatments, such as conventional drugs or other acupuncture therapies, for treatment of acute ischemic stroke. The quality of articles was evaluated according to the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions(Version 5.1), and the study was carried out using Cochrane system assessment methods. Rev Man 5.2 was used for the meta-analysis of the included studies.OUTCOME MEASURES: The mortality rate, disability rate, activities of daily living(Barthel Index), and clinical efficacy were observed.RESULTS: Twelve studies met the inclusion criteria for this review. The meta-analysis showed that between Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture and the control treatment, Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture reduced the disability rate [risk ratio(RR) = 0.51, 95% confidence interval(CI) = 0.27-0.98, z = 2.03, P 〈 0.05], elevated the activities of daily living(weighted mean difference = 12.23, 95% CI: 3.66-20.08, z = 2.80, P 〈 0.005), and had greater clinical efficacy(RR = 1.61, 95% CI: 1.23-2.09, z = 3.53, P 〈 0.0004). However, there was no significant difference in mortality rate(RR = 0.61, 95% CI: 0.15-2.45, z = 0.70, P 〉 0.05). CONCLUSION: The Xingnao Kaiqiao needling method is effective and safe for acute ischemic stroke. However, there was selective bias in this study, and the likelihood of measurement bias is high. Thus, more high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed to provide reliable evidence of the efficacy and safety of Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture in the treatment of acute ischemic stroke. 展开更多

A novel process was developed for the decomposition of vanadium slag using KOH sub-molten salt under ambient pressure, and the effects of reaction temperature, alkali-to-ore mass ratios, particle size, and stirring speed on vanadium and chromium extraction were studied. The results suggest that the reaction temperature and KOH-to-ore mass ratio are more influential factors for the extraction of vanadium and chromium. Under the optimal reaction conditions (temperature 180 °C, initial KOH-to-ore mass ratio 4:1, stirring speed 700 r/min, gas flow 1 L/min, and reaction time 300 min), vanadium and chromium extraction rates can reach up to 95% and 90%, respectively. Kinetics analysis results show that the decomposing process of vanadium slag in KOH sub-molten salt can be well interpreted by the shrinking core model under internal diffusion control. The apparent activation energies for vanadium and chromium are 40.54 and 50.27 kJ/mol, respectively. 展开更多

This study investigated multi-response optimization of the pulse metal active gas-tungsten inert gas( PMAG-TIG) twin arc hybrid root welding process for an optimal parametric combination to yield favorable back bead geometry of welded joints using grey relational analysis and Taguchi method.Eighteen experimental runs based on an orthogonal array following the Taguchi method were performed to derive objective functions to be optimized within the experimental domain.The objective functions were selected in relation to parameters of PMAG-TIG twin arc root welding back bead geometry: back bead width to root reinforcement ratio and deposited metal height.The Taguchi approach was followed by grey relational analysis to solve the multi-response optimization problem.The significance of factors on overall quality characteristics of the weld joint was also evaluated quantitatively using analysis of variance.Optimal results were verified through additional experiments,and showed to feasibility of applying grey relation analysis in combination with Taguchi technique for continuous improvement of product quality in the manufacturing industry. 展开更多

We present the results of a study on the north-south asymmetry of solar filaments at low(〈50°) and high(〉60°) latitudes using daily filament numbers from January 1998 to November 2008(solar cycle 23). It is found that the northern hemisphere is dominant at low latitudes for cycle 23. However, a similar asymmetry does not occur for solar filaments at high latitudes. The present study indicates that the hemispheric asymmetry of solar filaments at high latitudes in a cycle appears to have little connection with that at low latitudes. Our results support that the observed magnetic fields at high latitudes include two components: one comes from the emergence of the magnetic fields from the solar interior and the other comes from the drift of the magnetic activity at low latitudes. 展开更多

Stabilizing pile is a kind of earth shoring structure frequently used in slope engineering. When the piles have cantilever segments above the ground,laggings are usually installed to avoid collapse of soil between piles. Evaluating the earth pressure acting on laggings is of great importance in design process.Since laggings are usually less stiff than piles,the lateral pressure on lagging is much closer to active earth pressure. In order to estimate the lateral earth pressure on lagging more accurately,first,a model test of cantilever stabilizing pile and lagging systems was carried out. Then,basing the experimental results a three-dimensional sliding wedge model was established. Last,the calculation process of the total active force on lagging is presented based on the kinematic approach of limit analysis. A comparison is made between the total active force on lagging calculated by the formula presented in this study and the force on a same-size rigid retaining wall obtained from Rankine's theory. It is found that the proposed method fits well with the experimental results.Parametric studies show that the total active force on lagging increases with the growth of the lagging height and the lagging clear span; while decreases asthe soil internal friction angle and soil cohesion increase. 展开更多

In this work,we have searched for quasi-periodic oscillations(QPOs)in the 15 GHz light curve of the FSRQ PKS J0805-0111 monitored by the Owens Valley Radio Observatory(OVRO)40 m telescope during the period from 2008 January 9 to 2019 May 9,using the weighted wavelet Z-transform(WWZ)and the Lomb-Scargle Periodogram(LSP)techniques.This is the first time to search for a periodic radio signal in the FSRQ PKS J0805-0111 by these two methods.Both methods consistently reveal a repeating signal with a periodicity of 3.38±0.8 yr(>99.7%confidence level).In order to determine the significance of the periods,the false alarm probability method was applied,and a large number of Monte Carlo simulations were performed.As possible explanations,we discuss a number of scenarios including the thermal instability of thin disks scenario,the spiral jet scenario and the binary supermassive black hole scenario.We expect that the binary black hole scenario,where the QPO is caused by the precession of binary black holes,is the most likely explanation.FSRQ PKS J0805-0111 thus could be a good binary black hole candidate.In the binary black hole scenario,the distance between the primary black hole and the secondary black hole is about 1.71×10^(16) cm. 展开更多

Using neutron activation analysis method we determined contents of rare-earth and radioactive elements (La, Ce, Nd, Sm, Eu, Tb, Yb, Lu, Cs, Rb, Sb, Sc, Sr, Ba, U, Th) in source water system of the Changjiang (Yangtze) River, which is mainly composed of the Tuotuo River, the Chumaer River, and the Buqu River. The contents of these elements in the unflltered water have a great variation and a close correlation with the water turbidity. The contents of these elements in filtered water only have a little variation and are lower than those in the unflltered water. The variations in contents of these elements in sediments are also very little. These elements in the unifiltered water are in geometric distribution, except Sc. Most of the elements in sediments are in arithmetic distribution, but Cs, Sb, Th, are in deviation distribution. The contents of most of these elements in the river source area correspond to the contents of fresh water of the earth. Most of these elements have a little variation in their 展开更多

We introduce two methods to detect short-period variation in solar activity. These are called amplitude of low frequency fluctuation (ALFF) and fractional am- plitude of low frequency fluctuation (FALFF). We find a positive correlation between short-period variation and 11-year variation of solar activity using these two methods. Through ALFF, we find that solar activity over a short period becomes intensive when the 11-year solar activity is intensive. The ALFF value of the short period activity varies with the peak in sunspot number as a quadratic function. Through FALFF we find that the ratio of short-period spectral intensity to intensity over the whole period of solar activity will increase when the 11-year period of solar activity is intensive. The short-period FALFF value varies with the peak in sunspot number according to a cubic function. Using ALFF, we obtain a yearly series of solar activity that varies over a short period of 1-5 yr from 1860 to 2003, which shows an obvious periodicity of about 22 yr, 33 yr, 11 yr and a century. These short period variations show good correlations with long term variations in solar activity. 展开更多

A new method for the determination of utratrace silver(I) by near field thermal lens spectrometry has been developed. This method is based on the silver(I) catalyzed discoloring reaction of bromocresol green oxidized by sodium persulphate in the presence of a, a-bipy as activator and Triton X-100 as sensitizer. The linear range of this method is 0~1.6 ng穖L-1 of silver. The detection limit is 2?0-2 ng穖L-1. The method has been applied to the determination of silver in lead power and photographic paper with satisfactory results. 展开更多

We report B, V and R band CCD photometry of the Seyfert galaxy NGC 4151 obtained with the 1.0m telescope at Weihai Observatory of Shandong University and the 1.56 m telescope at Shanghai Astronomical Observatory from 2005 December to 2013 February. Combining all available data from literature, we have constructed a historical light curve from 1910 to 2013 to study the periodicity of the source using three different methods (the Jurkevich method, the Lomb-Scargle periodogram method and the Discrete Correlation Function method). We find possible periods of P1 = 4 ± 0.1,/92 = 7.5 ±0.3 and P3 = 15.9± 0.3 yr. 展开更多

Extraction and Analysis of Coronal High-temperature Components Based on Outlier Detection

The extraction of high-temperature regions in active regions(ARs)is an important means to help understand the mechanism of coronal heating.The important observational means of high-temperature radiation in ARs is the main emission line of Fe XVⅢin the 94?of the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly.However,the diagnostic algorithms for Fe XVⅢ,including the differential emission measure(DEM)and linear diagnostics proposed by Del based on the DEM,have been greatly limited for a long time,and the results obtained are different from the predictions.In this paper,we use the outlier detection method to establish the nonlinear correlation between 94?and 171,193,211?based on the former researches by others.A neural network based on 171,193,211?is constructed to replace the low-temperature emission lines in the ARs of 94?.The predicted results are regarded as the low-temperature components of 94?,and then the predicted results are subtracted from 94?to obtain the outlier component of 94?,or Fe XVⅢ.Then,the outlier components obtained by neural network are compared with the Fe XVⅢobtained by DEM and Del's method,and a high similarity is found,which proves the reliability of neural network to obtain the high-temperature components of ARs,but there are still many differences.In order to analyze the differences between the Fe XVⅢobtained by the three methods,we subtract the Fe XVⅢobtained by the DEM and Del's method from the Fe XVⅢobtained by the neural network to obtain the residual value,and compare it with the results of Fe XIV in the temperature range of 6.1-6.45 MK.It is found that there is a great similarity,which also shows that the Fe XVⅢobtained by DEM and Del's method still has a large low-temperature component dominated by Fe XIV,and the Fe XVⅢobtained by neural network is relatively pure. 展开更多
