Relations Between School and Immigrant Families in Albertan Francophone School: Perspectives of Settlement Workers in Schools - A Secondary Publication

In recent years,Francophone schools in Alberta,a province in western Canada,have seen significant ethnocultural diversification of their school population,thus reflecting recent migratory changes in Canada.The population of a Francophone school board located in an agglomeration of Alberta reflects these new migratory trends.A partial ethnodemographic portrait carried out in 2003 in six of its schools indicates that 50%of the pupils come from an immigrant background and come from 23 different countries;mostly from sub-Saharan African countries.This demographic reality,confirmed more than a decade later,represents a major structural change for Francophone schools.In Alberta,as in other Canadian provinces,inclusion is at the heart of discourse and educational practices.With a transformative aim,it intends to promote ethnocultural diversity in the classroom and equal opportunities through school equity practices.This article focuses on the settlement workers in schools responsible for bridging family,community,and school cultures.The analysis of the interviews of the four workers sheds light on and questions both the institutional practices and the personal strategies put in place to face the challenges encountered in this tripartite collaboration. 展开更多

Red music culture is a cultural form created by the people led by the Communist Party of China(CPC)in the process of revolution,construction,and reform.The inheritance and dissemination of this cultural form in universities,especially in the context of multiculturalism,has important social and cultural value.This study takes the red music culture in Shanghai as the research carrier,and explores the inheritance path of red music in universities through background investigation,theoretical research,specific practice,and achievement display.The research results show that red music culture can be effectively inherited and promoted by strengthening the construction of the red music culture cloud platform in universities,integrating red music culture resources into the campus environment,and promoting it in Chinese,English,and Japanese on social media.In addition,this study also explores the effective role of red music culture in establishing correct ideals and beliefs among college students. 展开更多

Purpose:To develop a multicultural nursing competence instrument for use in assessing undergraduate student nurses(SNs).Methods:This study enrolled 322 student nurses(SNs)employed at five hospitals in Hunan Province.The nurses were identified by the cluster sampling method.The items on the competence instrument were retained or deleted after analyzing their coefficient of variation,coefficient of correlation with the total score,t-test results.Reliability tests and correlation analysis were used to examine internal consistency,while exploratory factor analysis was used to determine construct validity.Results:After analyzing items,the final multicultural nursing competence instrument comprised a total of 49 items that evaluated five dimensions.The instrument showed good overall reliability(0.958),and the internal consistency of the five dimensions ranged from 0.884 to 0.952.Furthermore,the correlations among the five dimensions were statistically significant(P<0.01).An exploratory factor analysis of the five dimensions showed that five items incorporated aspects of cultural cognition(factor loading range,0.824-0.888),five items incorporated aspects of cultural attitude(factor loading range,0.629-0.815),twentytwo items involved cultural knowledge(factor loading range,0.587-0.792),seven items incorporated aspects of cultural skills(factor loading range,0.743-0.860),and 10 items involved cultural encounters(factor loading range,0.522-0.909).Conclusion:The multicultural nursing competence instrument for SNs demonstrated good reliability and validity,and can be utilized in nursing education programs and research. 展开更多

Nurses’ Care Approach (NCAp): Connecting Differences to Islamic Believer Patients in the Arab World

Background: Nursing care approaches may vary from one patient to another. In the nursing profession, nurses are imbibed with the attributes of multicultural care competencies that would empower the nurses to be adaptive and mindful of how they provide and go with their carative nursing managements. This would entail that the non-Muslim nurses must be aware and be sensitive enough in their approaches and communicative exchanges with their Muslim patients. Objective: The study aims to identify the care approaches given by non-Muslim nurses working in the Arab world and how they elicit and provide a universal approach in caring Muslim patients. Methods: The study utilized a mixed methodology, specifically the explanatory sequential design, which involved a descriptive-comparative quantitative research design and eidetic qualitative research design. Results: Based on the result with the highest mean 3.63%, the respondents strongly agree that the non-Muslim nurse is aware of her own culture, 3.60% strongly agree that the non-Muslim Nurse does not discriminate the decisions of the patients regardless of gender, race, culture or belief and 3.58% still strongly agree that the non-Muslim nurse encourages patients to communicate as need arises. Here are three themes emerged from the study: understanding and respect of cultures, caring across borders, and caring calmness. In connecting the differences, non-Muslim nurses must be aware of their own culture, must not discriminate the decisions of the patients regardless of gender, race, culture or belief and must encourages patients to communicate as need arises. Conclusion: Knowing and understanding the scope of nursing practice with a high regard of respect to patients without discrimination will promote and provide holistic, safe and high-quality nursing care. 展开更多

In Sri Lanka,after 30 years of civil war,multicultural education is being seen as important to help change students’attitudes towards different ethnic and religious groups.Therefore,the major aim of this study was to investigate the views of students and staff about the multicultural policies and practices in Sinhala-medium secondary schools with multicultural background.The sample of the study comprised of 321 students,116 teachers and five principals from five Sinhala-medium schools.In addition,four education policy-makers also contributed to the study.The key findings indicated that the majority of Sinhala and Tamil students were engaged in the school activities but Muslim students less so.In addition,all five schools had a variety of extra-curricular activities that were designed for minority ethnic groups.This is a good example for other multicultural schools in Sri Lanka.Research findings show that overall the majority of teachers suggested that they wanted some training about multicultural education.Most students were satisfied that their teachers know some expressions in the language of different students.However,teachers in these multicultural schools wanted language training to build a good intercultural relationship between teachers and students.Counsellors and teachers did not have the knowledge and skills required to provide cross-cultural counselling.Therefore,both teachers and counsellors need proper training.The research makes clear how extra/co-curricular activities are important to promote social cohesion in Sri Lanka. 展开更多

This study explores ways to cultivate the multicultural literacy of high school students.The high school stage is a critical period for the establishment of personal values,and the school mainly focuses on entrance courses.For the literacy connotation of non-important subjects,such as multiculturalism,it is impossible to provide relevant curriculum changes.Speculation and discussion;also because the scope of activities of high school students is mainly on campus,there is a lack of corresponding field identification and cultivation,the conversion of multicultural literacy differences is insufficient,and there are phenomena,such as discrimination and language bullying.Try to improve its multiculturalism,one is to carry out hometown service activities,and the other is to integrate courses.The research method uses the ethnographic perspective to record the experience of hometown service.Through hometown service,students can discover distinct cultural differences and appreciate the beautiful and profound aspects of aboriginal culture.Reading aboriginal literature in high-level Chinese textbooks can understand the uniqueness of aboriginal culture and sort out the historical context,so that students can understand that the aboriginal test bonus system is derived from complex social structure issues.From the above discussion,it is found that penetrating service,reflection,reading,and corrective actions allow high school students to truly realize cultural differences.Boots can overcome differences and understand social justice and equal opportunities for ethnic groups. 展开更多
