BACKGROUND Depression presents significant challenges to mental health care.Although phy-sical activity is highly beneficial to mental and physical health,relatively few stu-dies have conducted on the relationship bet...BACKGROUND Depression presents significant challenges to mental health care.Although phy-sical activity is highly beneficial to mental and physical health,relatively few stu-dies have conducted on the relationship between them.AIM To investigate the association between muscle quality index(MQI)and incidence of depression.METHODS The data used in this cross-sectional study were obtained from the 2011-2014 National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey,which included informa-tion on MQI,depression,and confounding factors.Multivariable logistic regre-ssion models were employed,while taking into account the complex multi-stage sampling design.A restricted cubic spline model was utilized to investigate the non-linear relationship between the MQI and depression.Additionally,subgroup analyses were performed to identify influential factors.RESULTS The prevalence of depression in this population was 8.44%.With the adjusted model,the MQI was associated with depression in females(odds ratio=0.68,95%confidence interval:0.49-0.95)but not in males(odds ratio=1.08,95%confidence interval:0.77-1.52).Restricted cubic spline adjustment of all covariates showed a significant negative non-linear relationship between depression and the MQI in females.The observed trend indicated an 80%decrease in the risk of depression for each unit increase in MQI,until a value of 2.2.Subsequently,when the MQI exceeded 2.2,the prevalence of depression increased by 20%for every unit increase in the MQI.Subgroup analyses further confirmed that the MQI was negatively associated with de-pression.CONCLUSION The MQI was inversely correlated with depression in females but not males,suggesting that females with a higher MQI might decrease the risk of depression.展开更多

[Results] The weights of one-year-old male and female Duoluo goats before slaughter were (25.68±2.37) and (24.51±1.97) kg, respectively;the dressing percentages were (43.55±3.24) % and (43.84±3.42) %, respectively;and the net meat percentages were (33.02±2.32) % and (34.19±2.46) %, respectively. (2) The cooked meat rates of male and female Duoluo goats were (65.49±1.42) % and (65.36±1.55) %, respectively;the shearing force was (5.48±1.24) and (5.65±1.02) N, respectively;and the loin-eye muscle areas were (8.95±1.72) and (8.82±1.15) cm 2, respectively. (3) The protein contents of male and female Duoluo goats were (20.07±0.42) and (19.47±1.22) g/100 g, respectively;and the fat contents were (1.30±0.80) % and (2.92±0.55) %, respectively;and the cholesterol contents were (71.76±11.47) and (74.83±2.68) mg/100 g, respectively;(4) The Ca contents of male and female Duoluo goats were (69.53±10.89) and (63.00±4.56) mg/kg, respectively;the Fe contents were (16.73±1.83) and (14.77±0.58) mg/kg, respectively;and the Zn contents were (38.47±3.68) and (31.83±2.22) mg/kg, respectively. Three male and three female goats of twelve-month-old Ti-betan goat were selected, and they were slaughtered for analysis of slaughter per-formance, muscle quality and muscle nutrients. The results showed that the pre-slaughter body weights, dressing percentages, meat percentages and carcass meat production rates of male and female Tibetan goats were (14.33±1.53) and (12.50±2.18) kg, (42.11±5.26)% and (43.85±4.51)%, (31.34±3.36)% and (32.84±3.16)%, and (72.34±0.54)% and (72.30±0.78)%, respectively. There were smal differences in car-cass size, carcass segmentation, muscle fiber properties, muscle quality, muscle nu-tritional composition, muscle minerals contents and muscle heavy metals contents between male and female Tibetan goats. A total of 18 kinds of amino acids were detected in the muscle of male and female Tibetan goats. There were less differences in carcass measurements, carcass segmentation, muscle quality, muscle fiber charac- teristics, muscle nutritional components, muscle mineral contents and heavy metal contents between males and females, while eye muscle area and hind leg meat weight of males were significantly higher than those of females. In muscles of males and females, 18 amino acids were detected totally, EAA/TAA values were (39.23±0.24)% and (38.70±0.15)%, respectively, and EAA/NEAA values were (64.73± 0.65)% and (63.17±0.41)%, respectively. BACKGROUND Previous reports have focused on muscle mass as a prognostic factor in esophageal cancer.AIM To investigate how preoperative body type influences the prognosis of patients with esophageal squamous cell carc...BACKGROUND Previous reports have focused on muscle mass as a prognostic factor in esophageal cancer.AIM To investigate how preoperative body type influences the prognosis of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC)and surgery.METHODS The subjects were 131 patients with clinical stage Ⅱ/Ⅲ esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who underwent subtotal esophagectomy after NAC.Skeletal muscle mass and quality were calculated based on computed tomography images prior to NAC,and their statistical association with long-term outcomes was examined retrospectively in this case-control study.RESULTS The disease-free survival rates in the low psoas muscle mass index(PMI)group vs the high PMI group were 41.3%vs 58.8%(P=0.036),respectively.In the high intramuscular adipose tissue content(IMAC)group vs the low IMAC group,the disease-free survival rates were 28.5%vs 57.6%(P=0.021),respectively.The overall survival(OS)rates for the low PMI group vs the high PMI group were 41.3%vs 64.5%(P=0.008),respectively,and for the high IMAC group vs the low IMAC group,they were 29.9%vs 61.9%(P=0.024),respectively.Analysis of the OS rate revealed significant differences in patients aged 60 years or older(P=0.018),those with pT3 or above disease(P=0.021),or those with lymph node metastasis(P=0.006),aside from PMI and IMAC.Multivariate analysis demonstrated that pT3 or above hazard ratio(HR):1.966,95%confidence interval(CI):1.089-3.550,(P=0.025),lymph node metastasis(HR:2.154,95%CI:1.118-4.148,P=0.022),low PMI(HR:2.266,95%CI:1.282-4.006,P=0.005),and high IMAC(HR:2.089,95%CI:1.036-4.214,P=0.022)were significant prognostic factors for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.CONCLUSIONSkeletal muscle mass and quality before NAC in patients with esophageal squamous cellcarcinoma are significant prognostic factors for postoperative OS.展开更多
BACKGROUND Myosteatosis,rather than low muscle mass,is the primary etiologic factor of sarcopenia in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Myosteatosis may lead to a series of metabolic dysfunctions,such as ins...BACKGROUND Myosteatosis,rather than low muscle mass,is the primary etiologic factor of sarcopenia in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Myosteatosis may lead to a series of metabolic dysfunctions,such as insulin resistance,systematic inflammation,and oxidative stress,and all these dysfunctions are closely associated with the acceleration of T2DM and atherosclerosis.AIM To investigate the association between myosteatosis and coronary artery calcification(CAC)in patients with T2DM.METHODS Patients with T2DM,who had not experienced major cardiovascular events and had undergone both abdominal and thoracic computed tomography(CT)scans,were included.The mean skeletal muscle attenuation was assessed using abdominal CT images at the L3 level.The CAC score was determined from thoracic CT images using the Agatston scoring method.Myosteatosis was diagnosed according to Martin’s criteria.Severe CAC(SCAC)was defined when the CAC score exceeded 300.Logistic regression and decision tree analyses were performed.RESULTS A total of 652 patients with T2DM were enrolled.Among them,167(25.6%)patients had SCAC.Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that myosteatosis,age,duration of diabetes,cigarette smoking,and alcohol consumption were independent risk factors of SCAC.Myosteatosis was significantly associated with an increased risk of SCAC(OR=2.381,P=0.003).The association between myosteatosis and SCAC was significant in the younger patients(OR=2.672,95%CI:1.477-4.834,P=0.002),but not the older patients(OR=1.456,95%CI:0.863-2.455,P=0.188),and was more prominent in the population with lower risks of atherosclerosis.The decision tree analyses prioritized older age as the primary variable for SCAC.In older patients,cigarette smoking was the main contributing factor for SCAC,while in younger patients,it was myosteatosis.CONCLUSION Myosteatosis is a novel risk factor for atherosclerosis in patients with T2DM,especially in the population with younger ages and fewer traditional risk factors.展开更多
Background: The current study was carried out to determine effects of dietary protein source and crude protein(CP)level on carcass characteristics, meat quality, and muscle amino acid(AA) profile in finishing gil...Background: The current study was carried out to determine effects of dietary protein source and crude protein(CP)level on carcass characteristics, meat quality, and muscle amino acid(AA) profile in finishing gilts. The experiment was designed as a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement with two sources of dietary proteins(cottonseed meal, CSM vs. soybean meal, SBM) and two levels of CP(12 % vs. 14 %, as-fed basis). Seventy-two crossbred gilts(89.5 ± 0.9 kg) were allotted to one of four dietary treatments in a randomized complete block design for a period of 28 d. All diets were formulated to be isoenergetic and similar concentrations of standardized ileal digestible essential AA covering the nutrient requirements of pigs.Results: Growth, carcass characteristics and meat quality were not affected by dietary protein source nor crude protein level(P > 0.10) except that average daily feed intake was increased by CSM diets(P = 0.03). Gilts offered reduced protein diets had lower muscle p H45min(P 〈 0.05). Neither dietary protein source nor crude protein level influenced N deposition. However, reduced protein diets decreased N intake, N excretion, and serum urea nitrogen content, whilst improved N efficiency(P 〈 0.01). CSM diets increased N intake(P = 0.04),but did not depress N efficiency. The concentrations of phenylalanine, tryptophan, cysteine and tyrosine(P 〈 0.05) of the longissimus muscle were decreased when gilts offered CSM diets, while muscle intracellular free valine concentration was increased(P = 0.03). The gilts offered reduced protein diets had greater intracellular concentrations of free methionine, lysine, and total AA in muscle(P 〈 0.05).Conclusion: These results suggest that CSM could replace SBM as a primary protein source in finishing pig diets in terms of performance, N efficiency, carcass characteristics, and meat quality, but decrease the concentrations of muscle specific AA. Furthermore, the reduced protein diet played an important role in increasing muscle intracellular concentrations of specific free amino acids(FAA), and in reducing the relative ratios of specific FAA to lysine in longissimus dorsi muscle of pig, whose biological meaning needs further studies.展开更多
Background It remains unclear about the association of muscle mass,strength,and quality with death in the general Chinese population of diverse economical and geographical backgrounds.The present study aimed to compre...Background It remains unclear about the association of muscle mass,strength,and quality with death in the general Chinese population of diverse economical and geographical backgrounds.The present study aimed to comprehensively examine such associations across different regions in China.Methods Based on the China Kadoorie Biobank study,the present study included 23,290 participants who were aged 38 to 88 years and had no prevalent cardiovascular diseases or cancer.Muscle mass and grip strength were measured using calibrated instruments.Arm muscle quality was defined as the ratio of grip strength to arm muscle mass.Low muscle mass,grip strength,and arm muscle quality were defined as the sex-specific lowest quintiles of muscle mass index,grip strength,and arm muscle quality,respectively.Cox proportional hazards models yielded hazard ratios(HRs)and 95%confidence intervals(CIs)for risks of all-cause mortality in relation to muscle mass,strength,and quality.Results During a median follow-up of 3.98 years,739 participants died.The HR(95%CI)of all-cause mortality risk was 1.28(1.08–1.51)for low appendicular muscle mass index,1.38(1.16–1.62)for low total muscle mass index,1.68(1.41–2.00)for low grip strength,and 1.41(1.20–1.66)for low arm muscle quality in models adjusted for sociodemographic characteristics,lifestyle factors,and medical histories.Conclusion Low muscle mass,grip strength,and arm muscle quality are all associated with short-term increased risks of mortality,indicating the importance of maintaining normal muscle mass,strength,and quality for general Chinese adults.展开更多

文摘BACKGROUND Previous reports have focused on muscle mass as a prognostic factor in esophageal cancer.AIM To investigate how preoperative body type influences the prognosis of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC)and surgery.METHODS The subjects were 131 patients with clinical stage Ⅱ/Ⅲ esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who underwent subtotal esophagectomy after NAC.Skeletal muscle mass and quality were calculated based on computed tomography images prior to NAC,and their statistical association with long-term outcomes was examined retrospectively in this case-control study.RESULTS The disease-free survival rates in the low psoas muscle mass index(PMI)group vs the high PMI group were 41.3%vs 58.8%(P=0.036),respectively.In the high intramuscular adipose tissue content(IMAC)group vs the low IMAC group,the disease-free survival rates were 28.5%vs 57.6%(P=0.021),respectively.The overall survival(OS)rates for the low PMI group vs the high PMI group were 41.3%vs 64.5%(P=0.008),respectively,and for the high IMAC group vs the low IMAC group,they were 29.9%vs 61.9%(P=0.024),respectively.Analysis of the OS rate revealed significant differences in patients aged 60 years or older(P=0.018),those with pT3 or above disease(P=0.021),or those with lymph node metastasis(P=0.006),aside from PMI and IMAC.Multivariate analysis demonstrated that pT3 or above hazard ratio(HR):1.966,95%confidence interval(CI):1.089-3.550,(P=0.025),lymph node metastasis(HR:2.154,95%CI:1.118-4.148,P=0.022),low PMI(HR:2.266,95%CI:1.282-4.006,P=0.005),and high IMAC(HR:2.089,95%CI:1.036-4.214,P=0.022)were significant prognostic factors for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.CONCLUSIONSkeletal muscle mass and quality before NAC in patients with esophageal squamous cellcarcinoma are significant prognostic factors for postoperative OS.

文摘BACKGROUND Myosteatosis,rather than low muscle mass,is the primary etiologic factor of sarcopenia in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Myosteatosis may lead to a series of metabolic dysfunctions,such as insulin resistance,systematic inflammation,and oxidative stress,and all these dysfunctions are closely associated with the acceleration of T2DM and atherosclerosis.AIM To investigate the association between myosteatosis and coronary artery calcification(CAC)in patients with T2DM.METHODS Patients with T2DM,who had not experienced major cardiovascular events and had undergone both abdominal and thoracic computed tomography(CT)scans,were included.The mean skeletal muscle attenuation was assessed using abdominal CT images at the L3 level.The CAC score was determined from thoracic CT images using the Agatston scoring method.Myosteatosis was diagnosed according to Martin’s criteria.Severe CAC(SCAC)was defined when the CAC score exceeded 300.Logistic regression and decision tree analyses were performed.RESULTS A total of 652 patients with T2DM were enrolled.Among them,167(25.6%)patients had SCAC.Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that myosteatosis,age,duration of diabetes,cigarette smoking,and alcohol consumption were independent risk factors of SCAC.Myosteatosis was significantly associated with an increased risk of SCAC(OR=2.381,P=0.003).The association between myosteatosis and SCAC was significant in the younger patients(OR=2.672,95%CI:1.477-4.834,P=0.002),but not the older patients(OR=1.456,95%CI:0.863-2.455,P=0.188),and was more prominent in the population with lower risks of atherosclerosis.The decision tree analyses prioritized older age as the primary variable for SCAC.In older patients,cigarette smoking was the main contributing factor for SCAC,while in younger patients,it was myosteatosis.CONCLUSION Myosteatosis is a novel risk factor for atherosclerosis in patients with T2DM,especially in the population with younger ages and fewer traditional risk factors.

文摘Background: The current study was carried out to determine effects of dietary protein source and crude protein(CP)level on carcass characteristics, meat quality, and muscle amino acid(AA) profile in finishing gilts. The experiment was designed as a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement with two sources of dietary proteins(cottonseed meal, CSM vs. soybean meal, SBM) and two levels of CP(12 % vs. 14 %, as-fed basis). Seventy-two crossbred gilts(89.5 ± 0.9 kg) were allotted to one of four dietary treatments in a randomized complete block design for a period of 28 d. All diets were formulated to be isoenergetic and similar concentrations of standardized ileal digestible essential AA covering the nutrient requirements of pigs.Results: Growth, carcass characteristics and meat quality were not affected by dietary protein source nor crude protein level(P > 0.10) except that average daily feed intake was increased by CSM diets(P = 0.03). Gilts offered reduced protein diets had lower muscle p H45min(P 〈 0.05). Neither dietary protein source nor crude protein level influenced N deposition. However, reduced protein diets decreased N intake, N excretion, and serum urea nitrogen content, whilst improved N efficiency(P 〈 0.01). CSM diets increased N intake(P = 0.04),but did not depress N efficiency. The concentrations of phenylalanine, tryptophan, cysteine and tyrosine(P 〈 0.05) of the longissimus muscle were decreased when gilts offered CSM diets, while muscle intracellular free valine concentration was increased(P = 0.03). The gilts offered reduced protein diets had greater intracellular concentrations of free methionine, lysine, and total AA in muscle(P 〈 0.05).Conclusion: These results suggest that CSM could replace SBM as a primary protein source in finishing pig diets in terms of performance, N efficiency, carcass characteristics, and meat quality, but decrease the concentrations of muscle specific AA. Furthermore, the reduced protein diet played an important role in increasing muscle intracellular concentrations of specific free amino acids(FAA), and in reducing the relative ratios of specific FAA to lysine in longissimus dorsi muscle of pig, whose biological meaning needs further studies.

文摘Background It remains unclear about the association of muscle mass,strength,and quality with death in the general Chinese population of diverse economical and geographical backgrounds.The present study aimed to comprehensively examine such associations across different regions in China.Methods Based on the China Kadoorie Biobank study,the present study included 23,290 participants who were aged 38 to 88 years and had no prevalent cardiovascular diseases or cancer.Muscle mass and grip strength were measured using calibrated instruments.Arm muscle quality was defined as the ratio of grip strength to arm muscle mass.Low muscle mass,grip strength,and arm muscle quality were defined as the sex-specific lowest quintiles of muscle mass index,grip strength,and arm muscle quality,respectively.Cox proportional hazards models yielded hazard ratios(HRs)and 95%confidence intervals(CIs)for risks of all-cause mortality in relation to muscle mass,strength,and quality.Results During a median follow-up of 3.98 years,739 participants died.The HR(95%CI)of all-cause mortality risk was 1.28(1.08–1.51)for low appendicular muscle mass index,1.38(1.16–1.62)for low total muscle mass index,1.68(1.41–2.00)for low grip strength,and 1.41(1.20–1.66)for low arm muscle quality in models adjusted for sociodemographic characteristics,lifestyle factors,and medical histories.Conclusion Low muscle mass,grip strength,and arm muscle quality are all associated with short-term increased risks of mortality,indicating the importance of maintaining normal muscle mass,strength,and quality for general Chinese adults.
文摘Microbial fermented feed possesses a natural fermentation flavor and exhibits good palatability.It is not only easily digestible and absorbable by livestock but also non-toxic.Additionally,it has the capacity to inhibit the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria,facilitate the growth and development of animals,and enhance their immune response,disease resistance,and overall production performance.This paper summarizes the selection of common feed materials and microbial strains used in fermented feed,as well as their effects on the growth performance,muscle quality,antioxidant capacity,and immune function of crayfish.The aim of this study is to provide a reference for the further popularization and application ofmicrobialfermented feed in crayfishaquaculture.
