Objective: The main aim of the survey was to assess diabetes treatment-related myths prevalent in the Indian population and if COVID-19 pandemic improved their knowledge about diabetes. Results: The survey was completed by 309 participants;66% did not have diabetes. The responses of people with diabetes and those without diabetes were similar. Survey results of the total population showed that the majority believed that diabetes treatment should start early (92.6%);87.4% believed that the treatment should start within three months of diagnosis with modern medicines;67.3% of the participants felt that allopathic medicines for diabetes were safe, 69.6% believed that if started these medications continue lifelong, and 40.5% thought they damaged all major organs. Insulin was thought to be safe by 65% of the surveyed population;60.8% believed that if they started insulin, they would need it life-long;51.5% thought that insulin was started at the last stage of diabetes;and 58.6% believed that insulin caused kidney damage. A total of 58.6% believed that herbal medicines for diabetes were safer than allopathic;76.4% did not believe that the “diabetic cure” shown through television/newspapers was safe and effective;67.3% did not believe that ayurvedic medicines cured diabetes. Of the surveyed population, 67% felt that their knowledge about diabetes improved during the pandemic and 89.3% knew that PWDs have more serious problems with covid infection. Conclusions: Our survey shows that many diabetes treatment-related myths are prevalent in the Indian population even though the COVID-19 pandemic improved their knowledge about diabetes. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Undernutrition is a crucial cause of morbidity and mortality among children in low-or middle-income countries(LMICs).A better understanding of maternal general healthy nutrition knowledge,as well as misbeliefs,is highly essential, especially in such settings. In the current era of infodemics,it is very strenuous for mothers to select not only the right source for maternal nutrition information but the correct information as well.AIM To assess maternal healthy nutritional knowledge and nutrition-related misbeliefs and misinformation in an LMIC,and to determine the sources of such information and their assessment methods.METHODS This cross-sectional analytical observational study enrolled 5148 randomly selected Egyptian mothers who had one or more children less than 15 years old.The data were collected through online questionnaire forms:One was for the general nutrition knowledge assessment, and the other was for the nutritional myth score.Sources of information and ways of evaluating internet sources using the Currency,Relevance,Authority,Accuracy, and Purpose test were additionally analyzed.RESULTS The mean general nutrition knowledge score was 29±9,with a percent score of 70.8%±12.1%(total score:41).The median myth score was 9(interquartile range:6,12;total score:18).The primary sources of nutrition knowledge for the enrolled mothers were social media platforms(55%).Half of the mothers managed information for currency and authority, except for considering the author's contact information.More than 60%regularly checked information for accuracy and purpose. The mothers with significant nutrition knowledge checked periodically for the author's contact information(P=0.012).The nutrition myth score was significantly lower among mothers who periodically checked the evidence of the information(P=0.016).Mothers dependent on their healthcare providers as the primary source of their general nutritional knowledge were less likely to hold myths by 13%(P=0.044).However,using social media increased the likelihood of having myths among mothers by approximately 1.2(P=0.001).CONCLUSION Social media platforms were found to be the primary source of maternal nutrition information in the current era of infodemics. However, healthcare providers were the only source for decreasing the incidence of maternal myths among the surveyed mothers. 展开更多

The surreal space of digital technology development has created an unprecedented utopian mythological world. The virtual reality research started in the 1960s has gradually become a reality with the support of hardware technology. The media mode of observing the world by simulating human eyes with cameras is being replaced by computer simulation technology. The metaverse global vision based on virtual space and sense of time obscures the traditional perspective, and a novel progressive aesthetic category gradual y emerges.Starting with the aesthetic experience of myth brought by digital technology, this paper reviews the history of myth and analyzes the mental image of myth and religion to push the origin of life to a more profound realm. The contemporary“myth”following technological development changes the situation of human cognition of the world, separates the myth from the historical frame and relates it to the contemporary ongoing. 展开更多

Perfume commercial,as a form of cultural text and practice,is relatively special in contemporary commercial advertising:The commodity qualities of perfume dictate that perfume advertisements must cater to the sexual fantasies of the audience, and therefore inevitably characterize the mainstream, dominant gender norms. At the same time, perfume commercial,as a unique marketing communication method, also unconsciously influences people’s values through sensory stimulation and emotional rendering. This article explores the connection between perfume and its commercials, sex, and gender, and discusses the generation of meaning in perfume commercials as texts and deconstructs the gender myth implied from the perspectives of representation and myth analysis, ultimately revealing that behind the gender myth of perfume commercials is but a false manifestation of the ideal self-image of the western white bourgeois heterosexuality. 展开更多

As a myth, The Chronicles of Narnia is to abandon the daily work in ordinary life. It is this kind of life that continuously kills people's interests in daily life, and then the worries are nurtured deep in the heart. Myth has always been able to satisfy all kinds of primitive desires of human beings, whether it is explanation, fantasy or the desire of education. Pushed by the results of a preceding publication on the possibly Quaternary Jebel Waqf as Suwwan Meteorite Crater, Jordan [5], where an amazing coincidence of Rapid Climate Changes (RCCs) with Rise and Fall of Neolithic and Bronze Age Cultures became evident for the Near/Middle East, this paper deals with the same subject, however, relating to the complete Holocene period in the same area and, additionally, in Central Europe as well. By application of modern climatic data [6] comprising isotope analysis (δ18O, 14C, 10Be), acid and aerosol events, and greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4) Greenland ice cores as well as other astro-/geophysical and geological parameters, an overwhelming coincidence/relation/interdependence of both natural and cultural evidences becomes obvious throughout the last 15,000 years across the Northern Hemisphere. Apart from solar output and other astrophysical processes, most important climate- and Earth-related parameters are Mega-Volcanism (i.e.Santorini Greece: ~3640 yr cal. B. P.), Impact Events (i.e. during Mesolithic: ~9600 yr cal. B. P), rapid oceanic current change (DO-Events), and Plate Tectonics (possibly Atlantis-Event: ~11,500 yr cal. B.P. = Pleistocene/Holocene boundary). The most essential parameter is a significant temperature change related to more or less restricted latitude realms of the Northern Hemisphere. Thus, glacier advance/retreat controls the mobility of peoples (i.e. Nations' Migration, Teutonic Empires) and the access to ore deposits (Au, Ag, Cu, Sn, Zn, Pb, Fe) located in Alpine Mountain Ranges (i.e. End-Neolithic, Early Bronze Age). Myths like the Gilgamesh Epos and John Apocalypse convincingly reveal realistic contents relating to natural hazards like tsunamis, impact and flooding events. They unmisunderstandably make obvious that Myths may provide valuable contributions, especially to Geosciences. Some of the controlling parameters interrelate with others or present a kind of hierarchy: Mega-Volcanism/impact events à ejecta à wildfires, heat storms à cosmic winter, sint winter à stop of photosynthesis à mass extinction environmental pollution à greenhouse effects. Significant events (21 cases in total) occurred on i.e. 展开更多

Eliot's The Waste Land is a poem that concerns with the spiritual decline of the modern civilization in which human life has lost its meaning, significance and purpose. Meanwhile it is especially famous for its obscurity. There is no logical and plotting connection with each other. However, Eliot puts these fragments together skillfully with stories of mythology and allusions. Furthermore he takes myth as a unifying tool connecting each individual section together revealing mythology as the framework of the poem. 展开更多

This paper explores the dynamic interaction between contemporary Irish women poet and the notion of tradition in Irish poetry. Looking at the two poems of Nuala Ni Dhomhnaill, the paper suggests that this Irish women poet is subverting tradition and destabilizing a conventionally accepted fusion of the feminine with the nation. This is achieved through direct challenge, through dislocation and through establishing a dialogue between the mythical and the real in the context of the lived experience of women in Ireland, which suggests the great effects for civil and social activities which have been done by these great women poets who engage consciously in the process of giv-ing women an active voice. 展开更多

In this myth, the image of nature is often a negative one, depicted as the"other"and it is by opposing this"other"that the spirit and strength of the Australian national"type"have been forged. In May 2018,the primetime news casted a shocking report saying that radon concentration on a certain model of bed mattress found to be as high as 2200 Bq/m3.After a humble, the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission(NSSC)of Korea confirmed that significant amount of thoron gas is emanated from several mattress models marketed by a company claiming beneficial health effects of negative ions.Laboratory analysis showed that some internal fabric sheets of those mattresses contain high concentration of Th-232.It was revealed that the manufacture treated the material with so-called‘negative ion powder’procured from the market and NSSC found that its radioactive content is the monazite powder.Although measurements with reliable instruments resulted in somewhat lower values, the tentative but conservative estimates of doses to the users are still remarkable, ranging from a few to 14 mSv a year. Most of the affected models have been marketed from 2010 but earlier models, with lower thorium content, were supplied from 2006.As many as 88,000 mattresses have been produced. The manufacturer with help of the government, recalled all the affected models and separated the radioactive internals.A large amount of waste is waiting for the government decision on disposal method.Similar problems were identified in other consumer products including latex mattresses and pillows imported, hot pads, and several models of sanitary or health-aid goods. These episodes called for revisiting NORM control strategy in Korea. 展开更多

This article has the objective of studying the myth of the vagina dentata.Based on an exploratory review of the literature and on clinical experience, the present article discusses this myth through manifestations of the archetype of the Terrible Mother and its manifestations in the contemporaneous clinic in the context of Analytical Psychology. The presence of the myth will first be considered in the context of cultural anthropology and then specifically on the basis of Neumann’s Analytical Psychology. In this article the author shows how the manifestation of the Terrible Mother is related to the archetype of the Great Mother, represented by horrendous figures such as serpents, gorgons, and the Egyptian Mother Goddess. The Terrible Mother has a devouring aspect and,in some cultures,is often intertwined with the symbol of the vagina dentata.Later,in the clinical context, these archetypical manifestations will be associated to intense degrees of anxiety associated with the anima in male patients, feeding intense degrees of aggressiveness in the shades of individuals of the male sex.In conclusion, the author emphasises the importance of manifestations of the Terrible Mother as depicted in individual symbols,in view of the process of individuation in clinical settings. 展开更多

The present paper aims at the exploration of the development of the political “myth of Kosovo” and its viability with respect to EU membership ambitions of Serbia. The battle of Kosovo Polje in 1389, presented as Serbian defeat, transformed itself into the founding political myth of modern Serbian nation in the 19th century and has continued to exist as such until nowadays. The “myth of Kosovo” could shift to the ideological-cultural basis of Serbian identity and religious-cultural practices in the case of successful EU integration efforts of Serbia. However, if Serbian-Kosovar dialogue fails or Serbia loses the perspective of EU membership or some crisis hits the European Union as such,“myth of Kosovo” could be instrumentalized by various Serbian actors in order to achieve their partial political aims. 展开更多

In Ovid’s story Cephisus, the river-god,forces the beautiful nymph,Liriope into love-making under the waves. She gets pregnant and gives birth to Narcissus. The mother asks seer Tiresias if her son will live to a full age;his answer is“If he doesn’t discover himself”.Narcissus reaching a fountain to drink, the mirror of the water enchants him. From this dramatic moment he cannot leave the spring.Narcissus is notable to grasp why he cannot reach the desperately desired image. In the mirror of the water he does not only see his own figure but in the waves he is confronted with the primal scene repeatedly. We argue that the image in the water reflects the coitus of his parents. It terrifies him while simultaneously he becomes envious. His discovery leads him to death. The paper is based on dreams and clinical material of a psychoanalytical case. Our concept is in accord with some of the insights about narcissism of Lacan,Kohut, and Kernberg. 展开更多

Often the most brutal explosions of violence are admissions of impotence.Keeping this in mind, the author would like to bring to light the political terror of Joseph Stalin which was systematically disseminated on the Socialist Opposition lead by Leon Trotsky. In order to understand the brutal nature of the false trials and the numerous murders in the name of revolution,it is imperative to understand the degeneracy of the Soviet Union which has been analyzed very dialectically by Leon Trotsky.Paul Le Blanc notes that the socialism in one country perspective caused for all practical purposes a downgrade in the seriousness with which the Communist International was taken.Initially, established by Lenin and his comrades to build parties in countries all over the world, this theory was now being vulgarized and being transformed into a tool for the foreign policy of the bureaucratic brand of socialism which was being practiced by the Soviet Union. It is because of this theory that people who are not aware of the history and do not have a proper knowledge of dialectical analysis fail to analyze the Soviet Union. My paper talks about the violent construction of the myth of Trotskyism as a signifier signifying the betrayal to the big br(other)that is Stalin and exposing the bankruptcy and impotence of Stalinism. 展开更多
