Influencing Factors of Communicative Language Teaching:A Student Perspective from English Majors

Nowadays,the Communicative Language Teaching Approach has gained significant popularity in the field of foreign language teaching.However,there appears to be a stagnation in its application effects.Therefore,this thesis aims to investigate the present state of CLT implementation and identify the factors influencing its execution within English major classrooms at Chinese universities from a student perspective.30 students responded to the questionnaire and 5 students participated in interviews to provide detailed insights.Through analysis,it was observed that CLT has been widely used in English classes and received positive feedback from students.Factors including the Test-oriented Educational system,teacher factors,student factors,and the Chinese traditional Confucius idea about teaching have an important impact on its implementation.Additionally,this article offers potential recommendations aimed at reconciling the CLT Approach with the Chinese educational context. 展开更多

With the progress and development of society and the continuous advancement of curriculum standard reform,society has higher requirements for students’English skills.The junior high school stage is the best time to cultivate students’communication skills,however,junior high school English classes are currently still based on traditional teaching as the main teaching method,which only focuses on cultivating students’reading and writing skills,thus neglecting the training of listening and speaking skills.Despite its evident benefits,the implementation of the task-based language teaching(TBLT)method in junior high school English communication classes is not without challenges.The current state of these classes reveals a significant gap in the integration of communicative tasks into the teaching process.This gap stems from a variety of factors,including the lack of appropriate resources,insufficient teacher training,and the deeply ingrained reliance on traditional teaching methods.This study will briefly explain the definition and characteristics of the task-based language teaching method,analyze the current situation of junior high school English communication classes,the difficulties of using TBLT in junior high school English classrooms,and the application methods of task-based teaching methods.The teaching method makes up for the shortcomings of English communication classes in junior high schools and improves the quality of teaching. 展开更多

To study the chaotic data that emerge, we model any translation as a complex communication channel affected by “noise”, studied according to Communication Theory applied for the first time to this channel. This theory deals with aspects of languages more complex than those currently considered in machine translations. The input language is the “signal”, the output language is a “replica” of the input language, but largely perturbed by noise, indispensable, however, for conveying the meaning of the input language to its readers</span></span></span><span><span></span></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><b><span style="font-family: Verdana;" cambria="" math","serif";"="">.</span></b></span></span><span style="font-family:""></span><span><span><span style="font-family:""><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">We have defined a noise-to-signal power ratio and found that channels are differently affected by translation noise. Communication channels are also characterized by channel capacity. The translation of novels has more constraints than the New Testament translations. We propose a global readability formula for alphabetical languages, not available for most of them, and conclude with a general theory of language translation which shows that direct and reverse channels are not symmetric. The general theory can also be applied to channels of texts belonging to the same language both to study how texts of the same author may have changed over time, or to compare texts of different authors. In conclusion, a common underlying mathematical structure governing human textual/verbal communication channels seems to emerge. A Method of Combination of Language Understanding with Touch-Based Communication Robots

Studies of robots which aim to entertain and to be conversational partners of the live-alone become very important. The robots are classified into DBC (Dialogue-Based Communication) robots and TBC (Touch-Based Communication) robots. DBC robots have an effect to be conversational partners. A typical application of TBC robots is Paro (a baby harp seal robot) which has an effect to entertain humans. The combination of DBC and TBC will be able to achieve both a conversational ability and an entertaining effect, but there is no study of combination of DBC and TBC. This paper proposes a response algorithm that can combine conversational information and touch information from humans. Criterions for estimation are defined as follows: FFV (Familiarity Factor Value), EFV (Enjoyment Factor Value), CR (Concentration Rate), ER (Expression Rate), and RR (Recognition Rate). FFV and EFV are total ratings for questionnaire related to familiarity and enjoyment factors, respectively. CR measures attention for humans. ER is the interest of communication with robots by representing Level 2 (laugh with opening one’s mouse), Level 1 (smile), and Level 0 (expressionless). RR is recognition ability for voices and touch actions. From the experiment for impressions of robot responses with 11 subjects, it turns out that the proposed method with combination of DBC and TBC is improved by 20.7 points in FFV, and by 12.6 points in EFV compared to only TBC. From the robot communication experiment, it turns out that the proposed method is improved by 8 points in the ER, by 5.3 points in the ER with Level 2, and by 24.5 points in the RR compared to only DBC. 展开更多

Communication inevitably becomes an essential part of interaction among people in every part of the world.Foreign language course provides opportunities for those who need to improve their foreign language skills like English,French,and German.However,this course finds some obstacles to the learning process like different curriculum,teaching technique,the background of the target language,pattern,as well as its culture.This research aims to dig out the learner’s obstacles and solutions in learning European language on communication at a foreign language course in Malang Raya.As the number of participants who put their interest more in learning European language course is growing,this research applied descriptive quantitative method by taking the population from the learners of European foreign language courses with purposive sampling.Meanwhile,the instrument used was a questionnaire,and it was analyzed by using the percentage formula.The finding shows that the obstacles to learning European communication consist of linguistic and non-linguistic obstacles,whereas the solutions done are various. 展开更多

Language is a media of communicationwhich is culturally conditioned. Culture, as a significant feature of human society and the soil for language emergence as well abackground for language use, is closely knitted together with language. However, current teaching syllabus in China does noprovide a system of the specific cultural contents to be included in any teaching program. Culture as a set of traits is by and largeneglected area and has drawn little attention. According to a famous professor Hu Wenzhongs paper, more than 90% students admithat there is a cultural gap between native English speakers and Chinese English learners and all of them think that awareness ocultural difference should be made a goal in language learning and teaching. In intercultural communication, culturamisunderstanding is often worse than linguistic one and tend to create ill feeling between native speakers and Chinese speakers oEnglish.
