Nurses work within a multidimensional scope of practice, which includes a reactive approach of treating health problems, a proactive stance of health promotion, and disease prevention. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the contribution of the intersectionality framework in building nursing knowledge related to the PMTCT of HIV and show how the intersectionality framework can contribute to the improvement of nursing practice, policy, and research related to PMTCT of HIV. A comprehensive literature review was conducted to be able to discuss the contribution of intersectionality framework in nursing knowledge. Intersectionality is a nice perspective that gives insight into different identities that link and work together to provide inequalities. Intersectionality is a well-suited approach in a nursing profession where we strive to offer efficient and better care to our patients or clients;an excellent tool to explore more on the roots of inequality, oppression, and discrimination. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Cerebrovascular disease(CVD)poses a serious threat to human health and safety. Thus, developing a reasonable exercise program plays an important role in the long-term recovery and prognosis for patients with CVD.Studies have shown that predictive nursing can improve the quality of care and that the information–knowledge–attitude–practice(IKAP)nursing model has a positive impact on patients who suffered a stroke.Few studies have combined these two nursing models to treat CVD.AIM To explore the effect of the IKAP nursing model combined with predictive nursing on the Fugl–Meyer motor function(FMA)score,Barthel index score, and disease knowledge mastery rate in patients with CVD.METHODS A total of 140 patients with CVD treated at our hospital between December 2019 and September 2021 were randomly divided into two groups, with 70 patients in each. The control group received routine nursing, while the observation group received the IKAP nursing model combined with predictive nursing. Both groups were observed for self-care ability, motor function, and disease knowledge mastery rate after one month of nursing.RESULTS There was no clear difference between the Barthel index and FMA scores of the two groups before nursing(P>0.05);however,their scores increased after nursing. This increase was more apparent in the observation group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The rates of disease knowledge mastery, timely medication, appropriate exercise, and reasonable diet were significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05).The satisfaction rate in the observation group(97.14%)was significantly higher than that in the control group(81.43%;P<0.05).CONCLUSION The IKAP nursing model, combined with predictive nursing,is more effective than routine nursing in the care of patients with CVD,and it can significantly improve the Barthel index and FMA scores with better knowledge acquisition,as well as produce high satisfaction in patients. Moreover, they can be widely used in the clinical setting. 展开更多

The results are presented as frequency & percentage as appropriate at alpha level of P < 0.05;inferential statistics were generated. Paired t-test was used to perform the comparisons. <strong>Results:</strong> There was statistically significant difference in the knowledge level for the intensive care unit’s nurses regarding the intravenous medication administration during pre and post education program. Statistical analysis showed that there was a statistically significant between age, educational degree, critical units/wards, years of nursing experience and previous medication administration education program of the nurses and their knowledge during different phases of program intervention.<strong> Conclusion:</strong> Educational program on medication safety improves the knowledge of critical care nurses regarding intravenous medication errors. This study recommends that medication errors should be periodically assessed by improving clinical guidelines of medication administration. 展开更多

The purpose of this study is to explore Jordanian nurses’ knowledge and attitudes regarding pain assessment, and barriers to intervention at different hospitals representing health care sectors in Jordan. A descriptive cross-sectional design was used in this study utilizing self-administered questionnaires to collect data from nurses working in public, University-affiliated, and private hospitals located on the north, mid, and south of Jordan using Nurses’ Knowledge and Attitudes Survey Regarding Pain, (n = 439). The mean of total correct answers on the 32 knowledge questions was 13.39 (SD = 4.31). Nurse-related barriers to effective pain management include patient history of alcohol abuse or drug addiction, and nursing staff reluctant to contact physician for analgesic order. Nurses working in surgical units, employed at private hospitals, holding a master degree, or who attended educational course or program scored significantly higher than other nurses. The results demonstrated knowledge deficit and attitude and that nurses underestimated and undertreated patients’ pain. Serious efforts should be taken in nursing schools and hospitals to prepare nurses and equip them with comprehensive knowledge tools to assess and manage pain appropriately. 展开更多

Background: Despite the efforts at establishing Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) programs in Rwanda, there are still children who are becoming infected through mother-to-child transmission of HIV. The purpose of our research study was to explore the experiences of HIV positive women using PMTCT program to prevent HIV transmission in Rwanda. Methodology: In this study, a qualitative approach using a critical ethnographic design was used to answer to our research question and with the aim to discover the meaning, process, and context of the studied phenomenon. In this paper, we discussed ethnography, critical ethnography, and its related philosophical assumptions as well as illustrating the rational for the use of critical ethnography to study the PMTCT program. Critical ethnography ultimately will contribute to raising awareness on how we can prevent new infections among children born from HIV positive mothers who are using the PMTCT program. The findings suggested a wide range of challenging factors that are shaped by social, political, cultural, economic, ethnic, and gender values, and that directly and indirectly affect the uptake of the PMTCT program. While using the critical realist ontology, we discovered multiple truths about the challenging factors for HIV+ mothers experience to uptake the PMTCT program. We triangulated their experiences with the findings gathered from healthcare providers, PMTCT leaders and policymakers, field observation, and document analysis. No previous studies on this phenomenon used a critical lens to explore the reality behind a wide range of experiences of mothers using the PMTCT program to prevent HIV transmission in Rwanda. Conclusion: The critical nature of this inquiry contributed to the depth and breadth of knowledge related to the delivery of the PMTCT program to prevent MTCT of HIV. 展开更多

BACKGROUND: Disagreement exists regarding the need for knowledge about complementary and integrative health(CIH) strategies, as well as for the need to consider such strategies in clinical nursing practice. OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to assess the knowledge, attitude and use of CIH strategies among nurses in Iran. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS AND INTERVENTIONS: A cross-sectional study of nurses working in two hospitals of Zabol University of Medical Sciences, in southeast Iran, was conducted from October 2014 to April 2015. The questionnaire, developed specifically for this research, was used to assess the knowledge, attitude and use of CIH by nurses. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to interpret the survey responses.RESULTS: Most nurses(n=95, 60.5%) have average knowledge about CIH strategies with most holding a positive attitude about use(n=81, 51.6%). The majority(n=90, 57.3%) of nurses, however, never applied CIH methods. Where CIH was used, massage was most often clinically applied(n=129, 82.2%) and a large percentage believed it useful for treating illness(n=136, 87.9%). Other CIH methods commonly used included prayer and herbal medicine.CONCLUSION: Nurses have positive attitudes about CIH though knowledge was typically weak. Educational programs should carefully consider how knowledge about CIH methods could be strengthened within curricula. 展开更多
