Yet most nurses do not feel confident in assessing suicide risk. Development of this potentially life-saving skill needs to begin at the undergraduate nursing level. As simulation is an effective pedagogical tool utilised within nursing education, the aim of this paper was to explore the potential of simulation in preparing student nurses’ for suicide risk assessment. Literature was examined to identify what simulation modalities were employed within nursing education and the outcomes associated with these. The findings suggest that to varying degrees all simulation modalities have the potential to decrease student anxiety, and increase student confidence, knowledge and communication skills when working with people at risk of suicide. However the use of Standardised Patient (SP) simulation adds an authenticity to the experience and allows for the assessment of a wider range of human responses, including key nonverbal communication skills. The sense of realism provided by SP allows for more in-depth understanding into the person’s experiences, which is critical in the assessment of a person’s mental health needs and risk of suicide. The majority of simulations identified were located within a mental health setting. Given that student nurses may encounter a person who is suicidal in any clinical setting, further research is needed on simulation which integrates mental health assessments and suicide risk assessment into a variety of clinical areas.展开更多

It is found that students are able to make judgments about the overall quality of their writing in a manner consistent with those made by the teacher and students made significant improvements in content, organization, and mechanics of their writing after the practice of self-assessment while qualities concerning vocabulary and language use have been improved but not to a significant level. Moreover, the study demonstrates that the practice of self-assessment has exerted positive influence on students' perceptions of their writing skills in terms of organization, language use and mechanics while it does not result in any change of students' perceptions of their writing skills in content and vocabulary. These implications are conductive to working out a set of new models of the teaching of writing and helping further intensify the innovations of Chinese foreign language teaching.展开更多

In the present paper, I will try to emphasis that collaborative assessment is positive to high school students' learning outcome, and cooperative and competitive assessment should be mixture implemented in Chinese education process rather than only using competitive assessment to evaluate students' achievement. I hope that Chinese students and teachers could teach or test in the less pressure by reforming the educational evaluation system.展开更多

Design: A cross-cultural comparison. Setting: Japan, South Korea, and Austria. Subjects: Female university students from Japan (n = 276), Korea (n = 103), and Austria (n = 127). The survey comprised a questionnaire containing ten sections about eating behaviors (eating habits, regular meal times, and frequency of food intake) and eating attitudes. Results: Eating behaviors and attitudes differed significantly among the three cultures. Japanese students practiced healthier eating behaviors than did Korean and Austrian students, on the basis of their variety of food intake and regular consumption of three meals, but rated themselves lower on healthy eating behaviors. Austrian students tended to have more independent attitudes toward eating and food preparation (e.g., “I want to eat only my favorite dishes”) than Japanese or Korean students. Conclusions: Effects of cultural differences in psychological processes, such as self-cognition, emotion, motivation, and values, on self-assessment of eating behaviors is suggested.展开更多

This paper is significant in Arab world as there is a lack of knowledge, attitude and practice of student involvement in the new clinical learning environment. The purpose of this review article is to describe the experiences and perspectives of the nurse educator in facilitating pre-licensure nursing students’ engagement in the new clinical learning environment. The review suggests that novice students prefer actual engagement in clinical learning facilitated through diversity experiences, shared learning opportunities, student-faculty interaction and active learning. They expressed continuous supervision, ongoing feedback, interpersonal relationship and personal support from nurse educators useful in the clinical practice. However, the value of this review lies in a better understanding of what constitutes quality clinical learning environment from the students’ perspective of engagement in evidence-based nursing, reflective practice, e-learning and simulated case scenarios facilitated by the nurse educators. This review is valuable in planning and implementing innovative clinical and educational experiences for improving the quality of the clinical teaching-learning environment.展开更多

Methods: We recruited 24,055 students at six colleges in the Southeast to complete an online survey, yielding 4840 responses (20.1% response rate). The current analyses focused on the 2276 Black and White females. Results: Binary logistic regression analyses indicated that recommended FV intake among White females was associated with greater extraversion (Odds Ratio [OR] = 1.05, 95% Confidence Interval [CI] 1.00, 1.11, p = 0.05) and greater conscientiousness (OR = 1.08, CI 1.02, 1.14, p = 0.01), whereas among Black females correlates included greater openness to experience (OR = 1.08, CI 1.01, 1.15, p = 0.03). Ordinal logistic regression analyses indicated that, among White females, greater PA was associated with attending a four-year college (Beta = 0.27, CI 0.01, 0.53, p = 0.04), whereas among Black females, correlates were with younger age (Beta = -0.01, CI -0.17, -0.03, p = 0.003) and greater emotional stability (Beta = 0.07, CI 0.01, 0.13, p = 0.02). Binary logistic regression analyses indicated that, among White females, being overweight or obese was associated with older age (OR = 1.08, CI 1.01, 1.16, p = 0.03), attending a two-year college (OR = 1.62, CI 1.22, 2.16, p = 0.001), and lower satisfaction with life (OR = 0.96, CI 0.94, 0.98, p = 0.002), whereas among Black females, being overweight or obese was associated with older age (OR = 1.87, CI 1.10, 1.28, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Identifying factors related to obesity-related factors is critical in developing interventions targeting factors associated with overweight and obesity among Black and White females attending two- and four-year colleges. Moreover, understanding different college settings and the contextual factors associated with overweight/obesity is critical.展开更多

Methods: Participants in this study included 16 teachers and 229 students of grades 3 - 6 at a large elementary school in the Western United States. Participating students were surveyed before and after a six-week intervention conducted by classroom teachers that consisted of a weekly displaying of Teacher Goal Boards in a prominent classroom location and sharing of goals set for the week. Teacher reports of the previous week’s goals occurred each Monday prior to sharing and posting of new goals for the new week. Results: Respondents reported significantly higher post-test values for over half of pre-post comparisons. Respondents were more likely to intend to be physically active (post = 52.6% vs. pre = 39.0%, p = 0.003), to eat nutritious foods (52.0% vs. 36.4%, p = 0.001), and to maintain a healthy body weight (62.8% vs. 52.2%, p = 0.022). Similar results were found for summary measures. Intention to be physically active, to eat healthy, to maintain a healthy weight, as well as descriptive norms for physical activity and perception and value of personal health behaviors were all significantly higher at post-test. Discussion: This study and its findings are significant because teacher participants were able to significantly and positively impact on students’ behavioral intent, subjective norms, and perception and value of personal health behaviors amongst students without spending additional time on formal health promotion and education instruction. Conclusion: Schools should incentivize and encourage faculty and staff to engage in a variety of health behaviors to improve both personal health outcomes and role model health behaviors for students.展开更多

文摘Objective:Hidden hunger remains a severe public health problem that affects millions of people worldwide. In China, challenges related to dietary imbalance and hidden hunger persist.Micronutrient inadequacy deserves more attention among adolescents, given its vital role in their growth and development;however, this problem appears to have been largely ignored.High school students,in particular, are often at a high risk of hidden hunger but have limited assessment tools available. Therefore, this study aims to revise the hidden hunger assessment scale for high school students(HHAS-HSS)in China and assess its reliability and validity. Methods:Based on a literature review, expert consultation,pre-experiment,and formal survey,a hidden hunger assessment scale was revised for high school students. The formal survey involved 9336 high school students in 11 of the 16 cities in Anhui Province,China, and 9038 valid questionnaires were collected and included in the analysis. The item analysis, internal consistency reliability,test-retest reliability, content validity, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis of the HHAS-HSS were examined. Results:The HHAS-HSS included a total of 4 dimensions and 12 items:"vegetables and food diversity"(three items),"fruits and dairy products"(three items),"micronutrient-dense foods"(four items),and"health condition and eating habits"(two items). The results showed a Cronbach's alpha of 0.758,a split-half reliability of 0.829,and a test-retest reliability of o.793,indicating good internal consistency.Using the Bartlett's test and Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin test(KMO)to test the exploratory factor analysis presented a four-factor model of the HHAS-HSS,the KMO0 value was 0.820(P<0.001),which indicated the possibility for factor confirmatory factor analysis.Using the maximum variance rotation method, four factors were obtained, and the cumulative variance explained rate was 57.974%.Confirmatory factor analysis also supported the division of the scale into four dimensions, and the fitting indices were x^(2)=1417.656,x^(2)/df=29.534,goodness-of-fit index=0.974,adjusted goodnessof-fit index=0.958,parsimonious goodness-of-fit index=0.600,normed fit index=0.938,incremental fit index=0.940,Tucker-Lewis index=0.917,comparative fit index=0.939,and root mean square error of approximation=0.056.Except for x^(2)/df,all the indices reached the fitting standard, and the above results showed that the construct validity of the scale reached an acceptable level. Conclusions:The HHAS-HSS has good validity and reliability for Chinese high school students. It is a convenient self-report measure of hidden hunger risk.

文摘Suicide risk assessment is a critical skill in preventing suicide. Given that student nurses may encounter a person who is suicidal in any clinical setting, further research is needed on simulation which integrates mental health assessments and suicide risk assessment into a variety of clinical areas.
文摘To explore the adoption of formative assessment in oral English test Validity study of oral test scores was performed in PhD candidates of 2011.Through linear relevance analysis,it is concluded that the relevance coefficient between oral score and overall score is 0.751 (P <0.001),the relevance coefficient between oral score and listening score is 0.530 (P <0.001),and the results indicate overall score and listening score have a positive relevancy with oral score. The result showed a positive correlation of oral test scores with written examination scores.Questionnaires modeled with the 5-point Likert Scale revealed a moderate supportive attitude of students on this formative assessment. The results are:80.1% of students indicated they feel satisfied and very satisfied with such oral English evaluation form,77.9% of students consider this oral score reflects their real oral English proficiency. This indicates that most students feel satisfied about the form and score in this oral exam.Through effective combination between formative evaluation method and summative evaluation method,it can effectively coordinate the relation between teaching and learning in oral English teaching practice, stimulate students'study initiative, and play a positive role in improving students'overall oral English proficiency.
文摘Objectives: To assess the level of nutritional knowledge (NK) among male Kuwaiti college students and to correlate NK scores with different nutritional domains. Methods: A random sample of 378 students was asked to answer a questionnaire regarding socio-demographic and health-related factors and answer questions assessing their NK on different domains. Height and weight were measured. Results: NK was low. NK on sodium and carbohydrates was the highest, where those of protein and cholesterol were the lowest. Only older age, healthy dental status, and high academic achievement in high school were associated with high NK. NK scores of different nutritional domains were weekly correlated with each other. While the NK on cholesterol correlated with NK on all other domains. NK on calories/food intake correlated with less than half of the domains. Conclusion: NK was found to be low and interrelated. NK education should aim to improve NK especially in those groups with the lowest scores.
文摘To get more insight into using self-assessment in writing instruction, the present study intends to explore the effects of student self-assessment on students' EFL writing by adopting writing assignments, analytic scoring rubric, questionnaires and interviews. These implications are conductive to working out a set of new models of the teaching of writing and helping further intensify the innovations of Chinese foreign language teaching.
文摘More and more researchers are becoming involved through a variety of actions and programs, which divides assessment into different branches(such as formative, summative, normative assessment, etc). In the present paper, I will try to emphasis that collaborative assessment is positive to high school students' learning outcome, and cooperative and competitive assessment should be mixture implemented in Chinese education process rather than only using competitive assessment to evaluate students' achievement. I hope that Chinese students and teachers could teach or test in the less pressure by reforming the educational evaluation system.
文摘Objective: To investigate cross-cultural differences in self-assessments of eating behaviors of female university students who bear responsibility for their own eating behaviors and who will, in the future, likely determine a family’s eating style. Conclusions: Effects of cultural differences in psychological processes, such as self-cognition, emotion, motivation, and values, on self-assessment of eating behaviors is suggested.

文摘Cancer patients are at high risk of malnutrition, which can lead to adverse health outcomes such as prolonged hospitalization, increased complications, and increased mortality.Accurate and timely nutritional assessment plays a critical role in effectively managing malnutrition in these patients. However, while many tools exist to assess malnutrition, there is no universally accepted standard.Although different tools have their own strengths and limitations, there is a lack of narrative reviews on nutritional assessment tools for cancer patients. To address this knowledge gap,we conducted a non-systematic literature search using PubMed,Embase,Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library from their inception until May 2023.A total of 90 studies met our selection criteria and were included in our narrative review. We evaluated the applications, strengths, and limitations of 4 commonly used nutritional assessment tools for cancer patients:the Subjective Global Assessment(SGA),Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment(PG-SGA),Mini Nutritional Assessment(MNA),and Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition(GLIM).Our findings revealed that malnutrition was associated with adverse health outcomes. Each of these 4 tools has its applications, strengths, and limitations. Our findings provide medical staff with a foundation for choosing the optimal tool to rapidly and accurately assess malnutrition in cancer patients. It is essential for medical staff to be familiar with these common tools to ensure effective nutritional management of cancer patients.
文摘The period of existence and spread of Corona virus has led to the use of all means of remote education as an urgent necessity for all educational facilities, especially universities. Aim: Therefore, it was necessary to study the impacts of online remote education on the learning process among nursing students through studying of two courses;health information management at 6th semester and gerontology nursing course at 4th semester. Tool of Data Collection: A modified questionnaire comprised of forty statements was used through paper-based survey and online survey. Sample: A total samples (224) of nursing students were participated in the survey who enrolled in 2019 and 2020 spring semesters. Setting: The field of study was the nursing department of Applied Medical Science at Misr University for Science and Technology. Results: Induced positive impacts of online education on the learning process for nursing students experience were proven as more than half of the students (53.9%) had prior experience on online system use, and more than two thirds (62.5%) were competent in mobile/computer applications. Almost, two thirds (59.3%) agreed about online assessment experience, except that the online exam was anxious, and the time was insufficient to answer all questions. Also, more than two thirds (64.7%) agreed about the learning process of the two nursing courses. Conclusion: The study concluded that there were positive impacts of online education system on the learning process for nursing students except that the students were not able to decide that the remote online education system can replace traditional face-to-face learning as the clinical experience was not evaluated through this study. Recommendation: This study is recommended to be repeated on a large scale of participants to assess the possibility of achieving clinical experience through online remote education if Corona virus still coexists.

文摘Student engagement in a clinical learning environment is a vital component in the curricula of pre-licensure nursing students, providing an opportunity to combine cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills. This review is valuable in planning and implementing innovative clinical and educational experiences for improving the quality of the clinical teaching-learning environment.
文摘Objective: We compared fruit and vegetable (FV) intake, physical activity (PA), and overweight/ obesity among Black and White females attending two- and four-year colleges. Moreover, understanding different college settings and the contextual factors associated with overweight/obesity is critical.
文摘Background: The purpose of this study was to explore the feasibility and understand the potential impact on elementary students’ perceptions of, and intentions related to, healthy eating and physical activity when their classroom teacher sets and shares goals related to these health behaviors. Conclusion: Schools should incentivize and encourage faculty and staff to engage in a variety of health behaviors to improve both personal health outcomes and role model health behaviors for students.
文摘Nutritional Assessment is the process of identifying characteristics known to associated with nutrition problems. Certain foods with chemical additives disguised as food can cause muscle and joint pain associated with arthritis, gout, fibromyalgia, obesity, cancer and others. Avoiding these foods can reduced inflammation, thus prevent obesity, cancer, and another disease. The target of the study was to find a relation between food type, anthropometric parameters and obesity-related diseases for university students in CoUege-Al Leith-Umm al-Qura University, Saudi Arabia. The purpose is to identify populations (100 subjects women, aged: 17-30 year, using questionnaire) who are malnourished or at nutritional risk. Participants were divided into normal-weight and obese groups. The different methods are used to collect data including: 1. Anthropometric, 2. Dietary: Nutritional History (Current Intake), 3. FFQ (Food frequency questionnaire). There is a significant association between certain food type, anthropometric parameters, obesity as well as other diseases including (vitamin D deficiency, kidney problems, bone pain, general weakness, thyroid problems, infertility.
文摘The performance of college students'professional courses is an index to evaluate their academic status,so the performance of professional courses has a certain significance. In the process of assigning homework to teachers and taking exams in universities, the performance of specialized courses is regarded as the standard for students to study well.Because students'understanding and follow-up are often assessed on the basis of their usual seriousness and attendance in class, homework and exams,it is necessary to analyze their final grades to assess their actual situation.Test scores were evaluated using variances and covariances. This paper discusses how to evaluate the final achievement from the distribution of achievement.
