The effect of Mo on nano-scaled particles,prior austenite grains and impact toughness of coarse-grained heat-affected zone(CGHAZ)in offshore engineering steels with Ca deoxidation was studied.The heat-affected zone(HAZ)toughness of Mo16 steel is obviously higher than that of Mo8 steel at all the heat inputs of 50,100,150 and 200 kJ/cm,with HAZ toughness of both steels decreased with increasing the welding heat input.When the Mo content is increased from 0.08 to 0.16%,the size of nano-scaled particles in HAZ is decreased from 18 to 15 nm,and their number density is increased from 0.7 to 0.9μm^(−2).Thus,the Zener pinning force is increased,and the prior austenite grain size(PAGS)is decreased,leading to the improved HAZ toughness.Microstructural characterizations show that the nano-scaled particles in both steels are Ti(C,N)with the solute elements of Nb and Mo.The calculated critical particle size of TiN is 10.2 and 8.4 nm in Mo8 and Mo16 steels at 1350℃,and the particles larger than the critical size are stable during the welding process.From the Zener pinning force calculation,Ti(C,N)particles play the more important role in the pinning effect on the prior austenite grain growth.Based on the regression analysis by the MATLAB results,the predicted values of PAGS at different heat inputs are well fitted with the experimental data. 展开更多

It can consider the effect of the difference of cyclic stress for different parts of the foundation on both the degradation strength of the foundation soil and the bearing capacity so that the estimated result can better reflect the real condition of foundation under cyclic loading. A pseudo-static elasto-plastic cyclic creep model is developed based on the visco-elasto-plastic theory. The parameters in the model are determined by cyclic triaxial soil tests. A method for analyzing the stability of offshore soft foundation under wave loads is given by combining the model with pseudo-static creep analysis. An example is analyzed by the method. The results show that the horizontal and vertical stability of foundations under wave loads can be analyzed by it and the analytical results are qualitatively consistent with the observed failure modes of shallow foundations. 展开更多

Internal solitary waves(ISWs) contain great energy and have the characteristics of emergency and concealment. To avoid their damage to offshore engineering, a new generation of monitoring and early warning system for ISWs was developed using technologies of double buoys monitoring, intelligent realtime data transmission, and automatic software identification. The system was applied to the second natural gas hydrates(NGHs) production test in the Shenhu Area, South China Sea(SCS) and successfully provided the early warning of ISWs for 173 days(from October 2019 to April 2020). The abrupt changes in the thrust force of the drilling platform under the attack of ISWs were consistent with the early warning information, proving the reliability of this system. A total of 93 ISWs were detected around the drilling platform. Most of them occurred during the spring tides in October–December 2019 and April 2020, while few of them occurred in winter. As suggested by the theoretical model, the full-depth structure of ISWs was a typical current profile of mode-1, and the velocities of wave-induced currents can reach 80 cm/s and30 cm/s, respectively, in the upper ocean and near the seabed. The ISWs may be primarily generated from the interactions between the topography and semidiurnal tides in the Luzon Strait, and then propagate westward to the drilling platform. This study could serve as an important reference for the early warning of ISWs for offshore engineering construction in the future. 展开更多

The analysis and design of offshore structures necessitates the consideration of wave loads. Realistic modeling of wave loads is particularly important to ensure reliable performance of these structures. Among the available methods for the modeling of the extreme significant wave height on a statistical basis, the peak over threshold method has attracted most attention. This method employs Poisson process to character- ize time-varying properties in the parameters of an extreme value distribution. In this paper, the peak over threshold method is reviewed and extended to account for subjectivity in the modeling. The freedom in selecting the threshold and the time span to separate extremes from the original time series data is incorpo- rated as imprecision in the model. This leads to an extension from random variables to random sets in the probabilistic model for the extreme significant wave height. The extended model is also applied to different periods of the sampled data to evaluate the significance of the climatic conditions on the uncertainties of the parameters. 展开更多

Currently,construction of facilities in the Arctic is carried out on sand islands,but there are limitations for remote coastal conditions.These restrictions are associated with the lack of quarries with construction sand in the immediate vicinity of the work site,as well as the risk of seasonal flooding of the territories.This article includes conceptual solutions for construction of modular piling in Arctic nearshore conditions,upon which drilling rigs and auxiliary equipment can be placed for the purpose of subsequent wildcatting,development and exploratory extended reach drilling wells(with measured depth about 15000 m).During the construction of the modular piling foundations,a mathematical simulation of the thermodynamic condition of the frozen ground was conducted,and the bearing capacity of the foundations was assessed.The proposed solutions will solve these problems by constructing modular pile foundations and placing the necessary infrastructure on them,taking into account the distribution of loads during operation in seasonally flooded areas. 展开更多

A theory on the second order wave diffraction by a three dimensional body fixed in a regular sea has been developed in the present paper. By regarding the sinusoidal disturb potential as a stationary solu- tion of an initial value problem, and using Laplace transformation method and Tauberian theorem, the boundary value problems of stationary solution of the first and second order diffraction potential have been de- rived in this paper. Furthermore, the explicit solution of the second order stationary diffraction potential has been obtained with the method of the double Fourier transformation. It is found that the asymptotic behaviour of the second order stationary solution at far field is dependent on two wave systems, the first is 'free wave', travelling independently of the first order wave system, the other is 'phase locked waves', which accompany the first order waves. At the same time, the radiation conditions of the second order diffraction problems are derived. We also find that one can still pursue a steady state formulation with the inclusion of Rayleigh damping. Finally, as an example, the second order wave forces upon a fixed vertical cir- cular cylinder have been calculated, and the numerical results agree well with the experimental data. 展开更多

A non-traditional fuzzy quantification method is presented in the modeling of an extreme significant wave height. First, a set of parametric models are selected to fit time series data for the significant wave height and the extrapolation for extremes are obtained based on high quantile estimations. The quality of these results is compared and discussed. Then, the proposed fuzzy model, which combines Poisson process and gener-alized Pareto distribution (GPD) model, is applied to characterizing the wave extremes in the time series data. The estimations for a long-term return value are considered as time-varying as a threshold is regarded as non-stationary. The estimated intervals coupled with the fuzzy theory are then introduced to construct the probability bounds for the return values. This nontraditional model is analyzed in comparison with the traditional model in the degree of conservatism for the long-term estimate. The impact on the fuzzy bounds of extreme estimations from the non stationary effect in the proposed model is also investigated. 展开更多

The spectral properties of nonlinear drag forces of random waves on vertical circular cylinders are analyzed in this paper by means of nonlinear spectral analysis. The analysis provides basic parameters for estimation of the characteristic drag forces. Numerical computation is also performed for the investigation of the effects of nonlinearity of the drag forces. The results indicate that the wave drag forces calculated by linear wave theory are larger than those calculated by the third order Stokes wave theory for given waves. The difference between them increases with wave height. The wave drag forces calculated by use of linear approximation are about 5% smaller than their actual values when measured in the peak values of spectral densities. This will result in a safety problem for the design of offshore structures. Therefore, the nonlinear effect of wave drag forces should be taken into consideration in design and application of important offshore structures. 展开更多

As a fundamental fluid-structure interaction(FSI)phenomenon,vortex-induced vibrations(VIVs)of circular cylinders have been the center of the FSI research in the past several decades.Apart from its scientific significance in rich physics,VIVs are paid great attentions by offshore engineers,as they are encountered in many ocean engineering applications.Recently,with the development of research and application,wake-induced vibration(WIV)for multiple cylinders and galloping for VIV suppression attachments are attracting a growing research interest.All these phenomena are connected with the flow-induced vibration(FIV).In this paper,we review and give some discussions on the FIV of offshore circular cylinders,including the research progress on the basic VIV mechanism of an isolated rigid or flexible cylinder,interference of multiple cylinders concerning WIV of multiple cylinders,practical VIV suppression and unwanted galloping for cylinder of attachments.Finally,we draw concluding remarks,give some comments and propose future research prospects,especially on the major challenges as well as potentials in the offline/online modelling and prediction of real-scale offshore structures with high-fidelity CFD methods,new experimental facilities and applications of artificial intelligence tools. 展开更多

Physical model tests were counducted to predict local scour and maximum scour depth around the large diameter cylinders located in the (sand) seabed under the action of both wave and current . According to the result of tests, an analysis was made on all the factors influencing the scour. The results shows that for the seabed with relative fine grains in shallow water (0.07<h/L≤0.28),when the relative diameter D/L of the cylinder is within 0.3 0.7,the main effective scour factors around the cylinder in the seabed are diameter D of the cylinder, the wave height H, the wave length L, the velocity V c of the current and the parameters related to the seabed soil texture. The main parameters influecing the maximum scour depth were analyzed, and the test data were syntherized, to obtain the formula predicting the scour depth around the large diameter cylinder under the of both wave and current. 展开更多
