In response to the challenges faced by the peer feedback, this research is to investigate how to develop peer feedback literacy,a much less discussed area from the previous research. In the new literacy approach to analyze a case study in a Chinese college, the framework of peer feedback literacy for Chinese learners is developed in three dimensions:affect, knowledge, and communicative skills.Among them, knowledge on peer feedback includes understanding rubrics, making judgements, giving advice, and using resources. The research was conducted among 25 first-year English majors in a semester-long writing course, where the peer feedback was done five times.Questionnaires,semi-structured interviews, and in-text peer comments in learners’assignments were collected for analysis and discussion. It is found that the introduction of well-designed rubrics and the teacher’s modelling helped develop peer feedback literacy, and largely solved some problems arising in peer feedback, such as learners’ignorance of content feedback, their distrust of peers’comments, and Chinese learners’unwillingness to point out the problems due to face-threatening. 展开更多

Purpose: To understand how authors and reviewers are accepting and embracing Open Peer Review(OPR), one of the newest innovations in the Open Science movement.Design/methodology/approach: This research collected and analyzed data from the Open Access journal Peer J over its first three years(2013–2016). Web data were scraped, cleaned, and structured using several Web tools and programs. The structured data were imported into a relational database. Data analyses were conducted using analytical tools as well as programs developed by the researchers.Findings: Peer J, which supports optional OPR, has a broad international representation of authors and referees. Approximately 73.89% of articles provide full review histories. Of the articles with published review histories, 17.61% had identities of all reviewers and 52.57% had at least one signed reviewer. In total, 43.23% of all reviews were signed. The observed proportions of signed reviews have been relatively stable over the period since the Journal’s inception.Research limitations: This research is constrained by the availability of the peer review history data. Some peer reviews were not available when the authors opted out of publishing their review histories. The anonymity of reviewers made it impossible to give an accurate count of reviewers who contributed to the review process. Practical implications: These findings shed light on the current characteristics of OPR. Given the policy that authors are encouraged to make their articles’ review history public and referees are encouraged to sign their review reports, the three years of Peer J review data demonstrate that there is still some reluctance by authors to make their reviews public and by reviewers to identify themselves. Originality/value: This is the first study to closely examine Peer J as an example of an OPR model journal. As Open Science moves further towards open research, OPR is a final and critical component. Research in this area must identify the best policies and paths towards a transparent and open peer review process for scientific communication. 展开更多

With the popularity of the Internet and improvement of information technology, digital information sharing increasingly becomes the trend.More and More universities pay attention to the digital campus, and the construction of digital library has become the focus of digital campus.A set of manageable, authenticated and secure solutions are needed for remote access to make the campus network be a transit point for the outside users.Remote Access IPSEC Virtual Private Network gives the solution of remote access to e-library resources, networks resources and so on very safely through a public network. It establishes a safe and stable tunnel which encrypts the data passing through it with robust secured algorithms. It is to establish a virtual private network in Internet,so that the two long-distance network users can transmit data to each other in a dedicated network channel.Using this technology,multi-network campus can communicate securely in the unreliable public internet. 展开更多

Communication plays an important role in advancing scientific fields and disciplines, defining what knowledge is made accessible to the public, and guiding policymaking and regulation of public authorities for the benefit of the environment and society.Hence, what is finally published is of great importance for scientific advancement, social development, environmental and public health, and economic agendas. In recognition of these, the goal of a researcher is to communicate research findings to the scientific community and ultimately,to the public. However, this may often be challenging due to competition for publication space, although to a lesser extent nowadays that online-only publications have expanded. This editorial introduces six statistics-related issues in scientific writing that you should be aware of.These issues can lead to desk rejection or rejection following a peer review, but even if papers containing such issues are published, they may prevent cumulative science, undermine scientific advancement, mislead the public, and result in incorrect or weak policies and regulations. Therefore, addressing these issues from the early research stages can facilitate scientific advancement and prevent rejection of your paper. 展开更多

The objective of this paper is to provide a better rendition of Generation Z purchase intentions of retail products through Facebook. The study gyrated around the favorable attitude formation of Generation Z translating into intentions to purchase retail products through Facebook. The role of antecedents of attitude, namely enjoyment, credibility, and peer communication was also explored. The main purpose was to analyze the F-commerce pervasiveness(retail purchases through Facebook)among Generation Z in India and how could it be materialized effectively.A conceptual fac¸ade was proposed after trotting out germane and urbane literature. The study focused exclusively on Generation Z population. The data were statistically analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modelling. The study found the proposed conceptual model had a high prediction power of Generation Z intentions to purchase retail products through Facebook verifying the materialization of F-commerce.Enjoyment,credibility,and peer communication were proved to be good predictors of attitude(R^(2)=0.589)and furthermore attitude was found to be a stellar antecedent to purchase intentions(R^(2)=0.540). 展开更多

A vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) can be visualized as a network of moving vehicles communicating in an asynchronous and autonomous fashion. Efficient and scalable information dissemination in VANET applications is a major challenge due to the movement of vehicles which causes unpredictable changes in network topology. The publish/subscribe communication paradigm provides decoupling in time, space, and synchronization between communicating entities, and presents itself as an elegant solution for information dissemination for VANET like environments. In this paper, we propose our approach for information dissemination which utilizes publish/subscribe and distributed hash table (DHT) based overlay networks. In our approach, we assume a hybrid VANET consisting of stationary info-stations and moving vehicles. These info-stations are installed at every major intersection of the city and vehicles can take the role of publisher, subscriber, or broker depending upon the context. The info-stations form a DHT based broker overlay among themselves and act as rendezvous points for related publications and subscriptions. Further, info-stations also assist in locating vehicles that have subscribed to information items. We consider different possible deployments of this hybrid VANET with respect to the number of info-stations and their physical connectivity with each other. We perform simulations to assess the performance of our approach in these different deployment scenarios and discuss their applicability in urban and semi-urban areas. 展开更多
