The transmitter, which includ...2.5 Gbit/s monolithic integrated circuits (ICs) for optical fiber transmitter and receiver in 0.35 μm CMOS (complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor transistor) process are presented. The transmitter, which includes a 4: 1 multiplexer and a laser diode driver (LDD), has four 622 Mbit/s random signals as its inputs and gets a 2.5 Gbit/s driving signal as its output; the receiver detects a 2.5 Gbit/s random signal and gets four 622 Mbit/s signals at the output. The main circuits include a trans-impedance amplifier (TIA), a limiting amplifier, a clock and data recovery (CDR) unit, and a 1: 4 demultiplexer (DEMUX). Test results prove the logic functions of the transmitter to be right, and the 10% to 90% rise and fall times of transmitter's output data eye diagram are 211.1 ps and 200 ps, respectively. The sensitivity of the receiver is measured to be better than 20 mV. The root mean square jitter of the DEMUX's output data is 15.6 ps and that of the clock after 1: 4 frequency dividing is 1.9 ps. Two chips are both applicable to 2.5 Gbit/s optical fiber communication systems.展开更多

A type of combined optical fiber interferometric acoustic emission sensor is proposed. The sensor can be independent on the laser source and make light interference by matching the lengths of two arms,so it can be use...A type of combined optical fiber interferometric acoustic emission sensor is proposed. The sensor can be independent on the laser source and make light interference by matching the lengths of two arms,so it can be used to monitor the health of large structure. Theoretical analyses indicate that the system can be equivalent to the Michelson interferometer with two optical fiber loop reflectors,and its sensitivity has been remarkably increased because of the decrease of the losses of light energy. PZT is powered by DC regulator to control the operating point of the system,so the system can accurately detect feeble vibration which is generated by ultrasonic waves propagating on the surface of solid. The amplitude and the frequency of feeble vibration signal are obtained by detecting the output light intensity of interferometer and using Fourier transform technique. The results indicate that the system can be used to detect the acoustic emission signals by the frequency characteristics.展开更多

Structural health monitoring(SHM)in service has attracted increasing attention for years.Load localization on a structure is studied hereby.Two algorithms,i.e.,support vector machine(SVM)method and back propagation ne...Structural health monitoring(SHM)in service has attracted increasing attention for years.Load localization on a structure is studied hereby.Two algorithms,i.e.,support vector machine(SVM)method and back propagation neural network(BPNN)algorithm,are proposed to identify the loading positions individually.The feasibility of the suggested methods is evaluated through an experimental program on a carbon fiber reinforced plastic laminate.The experimental tests involve in application of four optical fiber-based sensors for strain measurement at discrete points.The sensors are specially designed fiber Bragg grating(FBG)in small diameter.The small-diameter FBG sensors are arrayed in 2-D on the laminate surface.The testing results indicate that the loading position could be detected by the proposed method.Using SVM method,the 2-D FBG sensors can approximate the loading location with maximum error less than 14 mm.However,the maximum localization error could be limited to about 1 mm by applying the BPNN algorithm.It is mainly because the convergence conditions(mean square error)can be set in advance,while SVM cannot.展开更多

With the continuous development of automotive intelligent networking and autonomous driving technologies,the number of in-vehicle electronic systems and applications is increasing rapidly.This change increases the amo...With the continuous development of automotive intelligent networking and autonomous driving technologies,the number of in-vehicle electronic systems and applications is increasing rapidly.This change increases the amount of data to be transmitted in the vehicle and puts forward further requirements of higher speed and safety for in-vehicle communication.Traditional vehicle bus technologies are no longer sufficient to meet today’s high-speed transmission requirements,in which copper cables are used extensively,resulting in serious electromagnetic interference(EMI).Vehicle optical fiber communication technology,besides greatly improving the data transmission rate,has the advantages of anti-EMI,reducing cable space and vehicle mass.This paper first presents the motivation of applying vehicle optical fiber communication technology and reviews the development history of vehicle optical fiber communication technology.Then,the paper researches the devel-opment trend of automotive electrical and electronic architecture(EEA),from distributed EEA to domain centralized EEA and zone-oriented EEA.Based on the discussion of the development trend of automotive EEA,an EEA based on vehicle optical fiber communication technology is proposed.Finally,the key points and future directions of vehicle optical fiber communication technology research are highlighted,including vehicle multi-mode optical fiber technology,vehicle optical fiber network protocol,and topology.展开更多

Synchronization betweentwo chaotic laser systems with distributed feedback semiconductor lasers at wavelengthof 1.31 μm is simulatively achieved with almost zero synchronous error. Parametermismatch, synchronous transient response and noise effect on the system are studied.Robustness of synchronization and anti-perturbation can increase by increasing thefeedback coefficient of the system. Influence of group-velocity-dispersion and self-phasemodulation of optical fiber on chaotic laser signal and synchronization are analyzed, and itis found that group-velocity-dispersion affects pulse shape, synchronization and decoding,and limits optical fiber propagation distances, and self-phase modulation does not affectpulse shape, while its product of nonlinear phase shift can affect synchronization anddecoding, and restrict propagation distances of optical fiber chaotic communicationsystem and hence the maximum optical power formula is educed. The received optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR), affected by the nonlinear interference noise together with the amplified spontaneous emission noise, are compared with three 400G systems and a standard 100 Gb/s/ch system by numerical simulations. Both single channel and multichannel cases are considered. Single-16QAM is found to have the best OSNR among those modulation formats.展开更多

In the proposed approach, the most compl...We propose and experimentally validate an optical true time delay beamforming scheme with straightforward integration into hybrid optical/millimeter(mm)-wave access networks. In the proposed approach, the most complex functions, including the beamforming network, are implemented in a central office, reducing the complexity and cost of remote antenna units. Different cores in a multi-core fiber are used to distribute the modulated signals to high-speed photodetectors acting as heterodyne mixers. The mm-wave carrier frequency is fixed to 50 GHz(VBand), thereby imposing a progressive delay between antenna elements of a few picoseconds. That true time delay is achieved with an accuracy lower than 1 ps and low phase noise.展开更多
