Results obtained from fixed-time control study indicate that the variations of the pH and oxidation-reduction potential(ORP) profiles can represent dynamic characteristics of system and the cycle sequences can be controlled and optimized by the control points on the pH and ORP profiles. A control strategy was, therefore, developed and applied to real-time control mode. Compared with traditional mode, the total nitrogen(TN) removal can be increased by approximately 16% in modified mode and a mean TN removal of 92% was achieved in real-time control mode. Moreover, approximately 12.5% aeration energy was saved in real- time control mode. The result of this study shows that the performance of nitrogen removal was enhanced in modified operation mode. Moreover, the real-time control made it possible to optimize process operation and save aeration energy.展开更多

System A was filled with loamy soil and system B was filled with mixed soil of 75% red clay with 25% cinder. Both systems were fed with sewage at the same hydraulic loading of 2 cm/d at continuous operation mode. The same excellent removal performances of COD and T-P could be achieved in both infiltration systems with removal rates about 85% and 98%, respectively. In system A, NH +_4-N removal rate was as high as 96.5% and T-N removal rate was relatively much lower as 55.7%. And in system B, NH +_4-N removal rate was as low as 75.4% and T-N removal rate was relatively much higher as 75.5%. The difference was attributed to different soil oxidation-reduction condition that was greatly influenced by soil texture in subsurface infiltration system. Loamy soil led to oxidative condition that was favorable to nitrification and disadvantageous to denitrification. The results were just adverse to the system filled with clay. Intermittent operation was adopted to improve nitrogen removal in system B. NH +_4-N removal rate could be increased to about 95% and T-N removal rate could be increased to about 90% at intermittent operation mode in system B. Analysis of nitrogen removal mechanisms indicated that nitrification-denitrification was the primary nitrogen removal path in subsurface infiltration system and crop uptake was another important nitrogen removal way. It was the key to improve the total N removal performance that a suitable packing soil was available to present favorable oxidation-reduction condition for simultaneous nitrification and denitrification.展开更多

In this study, an on-line information system for phosphorus removal processes was established. Based on the analysis for four systems with different ecological community structures and two operation modes, anaerobic-aerobic process and anaerobic-anaerobic process, the characteristic patterns of oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) and pH were related to phosphorous dynamics in the anaerobic, anoxic and aerobic phases, for determination of the end of phosphorous removal. In the operation mode of anaerobic-aerobic process, the pH profile in the anaerobic phase was used to estimate the relative amount of phosphorous accumulating organisms (PAOs) and glycogen accumulat-ing organisms (GAOs), which is beneficial to early detection of ecology community shifts. The on-line sensor val-ues of pH and ORP may be used as the parameters to adjust the duration for phosphorous removal and community shifts to cope with influent variations and maintain appropriate operation conditions.展开更多

Sediment samples were collected from Xinghu Lake in Guangdong Province. The ORP dynamics at different layers of overlying water was similar for six experimental systems, whereas those in porewater were significantly different. The ORP in overlying water was 200-300 mV higher than those in sediments. The oxygen penetration depth ranged from 2 to 10 mm in Xiannu Lake sediments. The variation amplitudes of ORP increased with sediment depth, but the mean ORP values were all about 218 mV. The SRP concentrations in porewater maintained at a low level of about 0.049 mg/L because of high atom ratio of total iron and total manganese to total phosphorus. The SRP concentrations and variation amplitudes in porewater increased with sediment depth. The SRP in overlying water mainly originated from S RP transference of the porewater of middle and bottom sediments (3-15 cm). The ORP variation and SRP transfer in porewater played important roles in changing SRP concentrations. A distinct SRP concentration gradient appeared in overlying water when intense exchange occurred at the sediment-water interface; therefore, it was necessary to monitor the SRP concentration profiles to accurately estimate the internal loading.展开更多

With the chemical oxygen demand (COD) 800-1 800 mg/L, pH 6.0-7.3, volume loading rate (VLR) 5.4-11.5 kg COD/(m3·d), the operational behaviors of EGSB reactor was researched. And the max DO concentration which influenced steady operation of EGSB reactor was determined by contrasting the changes due to different concentrations of the influent DO. With the COD 1 200-2 000 mg/L, VLR 7.2-12.0 kg COD/(m3·d), the operational characteristic of EGSB reactor was researched by aerating the recycle effluent. The results was: when the DO concentration of influent was under 3.0 mg/L, the removal efficiency of COD was 82%-90% and the operation of the EGSB reactor was steady; when the DO concentration of influent was over 3.0 mg/L, the oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) fluctuated greatly and the operation of the EGSB reactor was instable; the acidified wastewater of saccharide whose pH value was 5.1-6.5 could be treated by aerating the recycle effluent and the efficiency of COD was up to 85%-92%.展开更多

It established the reduction of seed germination both under direct and indirect effects due to water action of attenuated geomagnetic field. A negative effect of hypomagnetic field on grown characteristics of seeds under indirect effect via water was decreased by the low doses of γ-irradiation, and was increased by low doses of α-irradiation, i.e. ionized radiation was the dominant factor in their combined action. It was revealed the increasing of the value of the oxidation-reduction potential of water under the influence of low-intensive α-ir-radiation (239Pu), γ-irradiation (137Cs) and also that the magnetic induction attenuated pointing to a natural decline. The increasing of the oxidation-reduction potential value testifies about “the regular decreasing of internal energy of water molecules” and the increasing of its oxidative properties, which, in our opinion, is caused the inhibition of the germination of seeds. It is supposed that namely water is the main component in the effects of studying factors on bio-objects, which acts due to the alterations of the properties and structural content of water.展开更多

文摘The gleyisation of representative paddy soils in the middle reaches of the Yangtze caver was characterized, taking oxidation-reduction potential(Eh),the amount of active reducing substances and the forms of iron and manganese as the parameters. The Eh value was linearly related with the logarithm of the amount of active reducing substances, which was contributed by ferrous iron by 83% on an avers. The degree of gleyization of dament horizons was graded as ungleyed, slightly gleyed, mildly gleyed and gleyed. The Eh of the four grades was>500,300-500,100-300 and<100 mV,respectively, and the corresponding amoks of active reducing substances was<1,1-7,7-30 and>30 mmol.kg(-1),respectively.The amount of ferrous iron of the four grades was<0.5,0.5-5,5-25 and > 25 mmol kg-1,respectively.The extent of gleyisation of a soil was classified as upper-gleyed, middle-gleyed and lower-gleyed, depending on whether the depth of the gley horbon was less than 30 cm,30-60 cm or more than 60 cm.

文摘A bench-scale reactor(72 L) red with domestic sewage, was operated more than 3 months with three operation modes: traditional mode, modified mode and real-time control mode, so as to evaluate effects of the operation mode on the system performance and to develop a feasible control strategy. Moreover, the real-time control made it possible to optimize process operation and save aeration energy.
文摘In the cerebral hemorrhage model rats established by injection of collagenase and heparin into caudate nucleus, the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) on the contents of nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin (ET),and total anti-oxidation capability (T-AOC) in the brain tissues were investigated. It is found that the content of NO in the Shuigou EA group lowered, ET decreased and the T-AOC raised significantly in both the Fengfu EA group and the Shuigou EA group (all P<0.05) as compared with the model group, indicating that acupuncture can reduce the contents of ET and NO, and increase the T-AOC in the brain tissues of the rats with cerebral hemorrhage.
文摘Influence of packing media on nitrogen removal in a subsurface infiltration system was studied. It was the key to improve the total N removal performance that a suitable packing soil was available to present favorable oxidation-reduction condition for simultaneous nitrification and denitrification.

文摘For efficient energy consumption and control of effluent quality, the cycle duration for a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) needs to be adjusted by real-time control according to the characteristics and loading of waste-water. The on-line sensor val-ues of pH and ORP may be used as the parameters to adjust the duration for phosphorous removal and community shifts to cope with influent variations and maintain appropriate operation conditions.
文摘According to the World Health Organization(WHO),oxidative stress(OS)is a significant contributor to male infertility.SeminalOS can be measured by a number of assays, all of which are either costly or time sensitive and/or require large semen volume andcomplex instrumentation. One less expensive alternative is to quantify the oxidation-reduction potential(ORP)with the MiOXSYS.In this international multi-center study,we assessed whether ORP levels measured by the MiOXSYS could distinguish semensamples that fall within the 2010 WHO normal reference values from those that do not.Semen samples were collected from 2092patients in 9 countries;ORP was normalized to sperm concentration(mV/10^6 sperm/ml).Only those samples with a concentration>1×10^6 sperm ml1 were in eluded. The results showed that 199 samples fell within the WHO no rmal refere nee range while theremaining 1893 samples did not meet one or more of the criteria.ORP was negatively correlated with all semen parameters(P <0.01)except volume. The area under the curve for ORP was 0.765.The ORP cut-off value(1.34 mV/10^6 sperm/ml)was able todifferentiate specimens with abnormal semen parameters with 98.1%sensitivity,40.6%specificity,94.7%positive predictivevalue(PPV)and 66.6%negative predictive value(NPV).When used as an adjunct to traditional semen analysis,ORP levels mayhelp identify altered functional status of spermatozoa caused by OS in cases of idiopathic male infertility and in male partners ofcouples sufferi ng recurre nt pregna ncy loss, and thereby directi ng these men to relevant medical therapies and lifestyle modificati ons.

文摘To understand the transfer process of soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP) on the lake sediment-water interface in a mesotrophic shallow lake in South China, the SRP concentrations and the oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) across the sediment-water interfaces were continually monitored. A distinct SRP concentration gradient appeared in overlying water when intense exchange occurred at the sediment-water interface; therefore, it was necessary to monitor the SRP concentration profiles to accurately estimate the internal loading.
文摘The characteristics of electric charge and molecular weight distribution,oxidation-reduction regimes,e.g.Eh and amounts of organic reducing substances produced by milk vetch during anaerobic decomposition process, were studied by using electrochemical methods.Interaction between soils and organic reducing substances was also observed. The results indicate that the organic reducing substances were mainly the organic compounds with negative and amphoteric charges, which were distributed in two groups at anodic peak potentials of 0.25 and 0.69 volt in differential pulse voltammograms, respectively.Their apparent molecular weights are all less than 700 daltons,in which those active in oxidation-reducion reaction were distributed in the fraction with apparent molecular weight less than 200 daltons. The organic reduction substances can be oxidized by manganese oxides in their interaction with soils.
文摘An expanded granular sludge bed (EGSB) reactor was adopted to study the dissolved oxygen (DO) effect on the operation. The results was: when the DO concentration of influent was under 3.0 mg/L, the removal efficiency of COD was 82%-90% and the operation of the EGSB reactor was steady; when the DO concentration of influent was over 3.0 mg/L, the oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) fluctuated greatly and the operation of the EGSB reactor was instable; the acidified wastewater of saccharide whose pH value was 5.1-6.5 could be treated by aerating the recycle effluent and the efficiency of COD was up to 85%-92%.
文摘The influence of a 40-fold attenuated geomagnetic field and its combined action with low doses of α- and γ-irradiation on the physiological characteristics of seeds of the highest plants and redox properties of water was investigated. It is supposed that namely water is the main component in the effects of studying factors on bio-objects, which acts due to the alterations of the properties and structural content of water.
文摘The iodides can be oxidated to iodine by O;in air because of their lower redox potential. In an acidic solution, this reaction can be accelerated by ultraviolet light. Because the iodine yielded from potassium iodide by light irradiating solution can react with other oxidizer components, the iodine is constantly consumed. When it arrives the terminal points of the reaction, the iodine appears. According to the reaction time of the iodine appearing the quantities of the components are determined. And the terminal points can be pointed out by the blue of the iodine-starch or potentiometric
文摘Method of direct osmosis (also known as nonequivalent ion transfer through semipermeable membrane) was developed in 1971 and patented in 1974 by one of authors. There were no publications because the patent was secreted. Moreover, necessary quality of membranes--high negative selectivity and apparatus for this process was provided only in 2000s (patented in 2008). Technology of direct osmosis is able to solve a number of problems of industry, such as extracting of rare elements (Re, Ge, U, etc.) from natural and manufacturing water. The authors need to mention that direct osmosis makes possible to create rentable technology of greenhouse gases trapping and burying. It will be shown in the next article. And this article is about the basic idea--nonequivalent ion transfer through semipermeable membrane or direct osmosis.
文摘The article represents the generalizing data for the studying of the effect of hypomagnetic field on physico-chemistry properties of water and bio-objects. It was revealed the changing state of water: increasing of its oxidation-reduction potential and oxidative properties as magnetic induction attenuated pointing to a natural decline, that testifies about the regular decreasing of internal energy of water molecules, which, in our opinion, is caused the inhibition of the germination of seeds of the highest plants, embryonic development of Planorbarius corneus and the changing of energy state of growing mediums for cell culture of mammals. It is supposed that namely the changing state of water is the main component in the effects of weakening of magnetic field on the studying bio-objects.
