The experimental knowledge on the role of oxidative stress,and beneficial and detrimental effects of plant derived antioxidants in male and female animal reproduction are reviewed in this article.Free radical-induced oxidative stress in animal reproduction causes great loss to livestock industry.Antioxidant therapy has been implicated to be effective in preventing diseases resulted from oxidative stress.Considering the advantages of lower side effects of natural antioxidants than those of synthetic antioxidants,plants or their extracts have been extensively utilized in animals.Although many advances have been gained on application of plant derived antioxidants in alleviating oxidative stress,debatable issues still exist.Because many opposite effects were observed even using plant extracts containing similar bioactive substances in the same animal species.Therefore,plant derived antioxidants,like free radicals,are "double-edged swords" in animal reproduction,representing that they may exhibit beneficial or detrimental effects in animal reproduction,including spermatogenesis,semen functions,estrous cycles,ovulation,ovary functions,endometrium,embryo development,and pregnancy.Besides dose-dependent manner as an explanation of plant extracts' dual function,future studies are needed to investigate the mechanism of double-edged actions of plant derived antioxidants in different animal reproduction systems. 展开更多

Electrochemical insertion/extraction of Li on cathode materials of anatase type TiO_2, quasilayered structure V_2O_5 and layered structure MoO_3 was measured on samples of which structures were well characterized and showed a wide range of crystallinity. On the basis of experimental results on structure, morphology and charge-discharge characteristics, the effect of crystallinity of the cathode materials on electrochemical Li insertion/extraction pedermance was discussed. These three transition metal oxides were classified as one group on the basis of whether the crystallinity of these oxides affects to the performance or not; LiMn_2O_4 and LiCo_(0.5)O_2 belongs to the former group and TiO_2, V_2O_5 and MoO_3 to the latter. 展开更多

Tongting coal(TTC) was exhaustively extracted with carbon disulfide and N-melthy-2-pyrolidinone(CS 2 /NMP) mixed solvents to afford brown particles of extract,which was characterized with proximate analyzer,transmission electron microscope(TEM) and Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectrometer.The results show that the nanometer particles of extract,which were free of ash,are superfine and superclean with tract content of 0.02% A d and particles size of about 100-150 nm.TTC and extract were then subject to oxidation with H 2 O 2 and oxidation products were subsequently analyzed with FTIR and gas chromatography/mass spectrometer(GC/MS).The results show that extract is more reactive with H 2 O 2 in comparison to TTC and richer in oxygen-containing species including phenols,alcohols,ethers,esters,carboxylic acids and anhydrides. 展开更多

Determination of aniline derivatives in water samples after preconcentration with oxidized multiwalled carbon nanotubes as solid-phase extraction disk

A sensitive and selective preconcentration method using solid-phase extraction (SPE) disk made from oxidized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (OMWCNTs), has been developed for the determination of aniline derivatives, such as 2-nitroaniline (2-NA), 4- nitroaniline (4-NA), and 2,4-dichloroaniline (2,4-DCA) in water samples. Anilines were extracted onto OMWCNT disk and then determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with UV detector. Several parameters on the recovery of the analytes were investigated. The experimental results showed that it was possible to obtain quantitative analysis when the solution pH was 8 using 200 mL of validation solution containing 2 ug of anilines and 10 mL of acetonitrile/ethanol (8/2, v/v) as an eluent. Relative standard deviations for five determinations were 7.5% (2-NA), 6.5% (4-NA) and 3.8% (2,4-DCA) under optimum conditions. The linear range of calibration curves were 0.5 ng.mL 1 to 15 ng.mL-1 for each analyte with good correlation coefficients. The detection limits (3S/N) of 2-NA, 4-NA and 31 pg.mL -1 and 26 pg.mL-1 was successfully applied to 2,4-DCA were 30pg.mL -1, respectively. Our method the determination of aniline compounds in fiver water sample with high precision and accuracy. 展开更多

A simple and selective method using a column packed with graphene oxide(GO) as a solid phase extractant has been developed for the multi-element preconcentration of Fe(Ⅲ),Ni(Ⅱ),Cu(Ⅱ) and Zn(Ⅱ)ions prior to flame atomic absorption spectrometric determinations.The method is based on the sorption of mentioned ions on synthesized GO using 2-(tert-butoxy)-N-(3-carbamothioylphenyl)acetamide as a chelating agent.Several parameters on the extraction and complex formation were optimized.Under the optimized conditions(pH 6,flow rate 9 mL/min),metal ions were retained on the column,then quantitatively eluted by HNO3solution(5 mL,3.0 mol/L).The preconcentration factor was calculated as250.The detection limits for the analyte ions of interest were found in the range of 0.11 ng/mL(Ni2+) to0.63 ng/mL(Cu2+).The column packed with GO was adequate for metal ions separation in matrixes containing alkali,alkaline earth,transition and heavy metal ions. 展开更多

ZnO nanoparticles(ZnO NPs) were synthesized by chemical method(coprecipitation) and biological method using aqueous extracts of garlic(Allium sativum),rosemary(Rosmarinus officinalis) and basil(Ocimum basilicum).The influence of plant extract on the antibacterial and antioxidant activities of green synthesized nanoparticles was investigated.The X-ray diffraction studies reveal that all ZnO samples have hexagonal wurtzite structure.The particle size of ZnO NPs estimated by transmission electron microscopy analysis(between 14 and 27 nm) varies depending on the synthesis method of nanoparticles and the type of extracts from the plants used.The functional groups involved in the biosynthetic procedure were evidenced by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.The presence of Mn^(2+)ions,Zn vacancy complexes and oxygen vacancies in ZnO samples was highlighted by electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy.The green synthesized ZnO NPs have shown a good bactericidal activity against Staphylococcus aureus,Bacillus subtilis,Listeria monocytogenes,Escherichia coli,Salmonella typhimurium and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacterial strains.ZnO NPs synthesized using extracts of the selected plant species have been found to exhibit more enhanced antibacterial and antioxidant activities as compared to chemical ZnO NPs. 展开更多
