Theytend to worry patients and can affect their quality of life. They are often asymptom associated with cardiac rhythm disorders, although there are otheretiologies. For diagnosis, it is essential to be able to reliably correlate the symptomswith an electrocardiographic record allowing the identification or rulingout of a possible rhythm disorder. However, reaching a diagnosis is not alwayssimple, given that they tend to be transitory symptoms and the patient isfrequently asymptomatic at the time of assessment. In recent years, electrocardiographicmonitoring systems have incorporated many technical improvements thatsolve several of the 24-h Holter monitor limitations. The objective of this review isto provide an update on the different monitoring methods currently available, remarking their indications and limitations, to help healthcare professionals toappropriately select and use them in the work-up of patients with palpitations. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Sick sinus syndrome is a common disease in cardiology.Typical symptoms include palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and amaurosis. However,to date, there are no known reports of sick sinus syndrome presenting with headache.Whether there is a correlation between headache and sick sinus syndrome merits further research. In this report,we describe a case of headache induced by sick sinus syndrome.CASE SUMMARY A 73-year-old female patient presented to our department with the chief complaint of recurrent paroxysmal headache for more than 7 years. The patient described paroxysmal palpations, usually headache occurring after palpitation. Her blood pressure was normal when the most recent headache occurred.A magnetic resonance imaging study and magnetic resonance angiography of the head at another center were normal.A clinical neurological examination was negative.A 24-h Holter electrocardiogram monitoring study showed sick sinus syndrome. The patient received dual chamber pacing implantation and was administered drug therapy to control ventricular rate. The patient’s paroxysmal headaches and palpitations had resolved within 1 year, confirmed via a follow-up telephone call.CONCLUSION After dual-chamber pacing implantation and drug therapy administration to control the ventricular rate, the patient’s paroxysmal headaches and palpitations had resolved within 1 year, confirmed via a follow-up telephone call.We believe that the headaches were related to the patient’s sick sinus syndrome. 展开更多

Breijo’s electrocardiographic model is becoming better known to cardiologists every day. The decrease in the PR interval, together with the decrease of the QTc interval in the same individual, is the main and only feature of the same individual. It can often go unnoticed, but many problems could be avoided if it was previously diagnosed, including sudden death. 展开更多

Atrial fibrillation(AF), the most common cardiac arrhythmia worldwide, is associated with a higher risk of mortality and morbidity, in which paroxysmal atrial fibrillation(PAF) approximately accounts for 25%-60% of AF. Anti-arrhythmic drugs(AAD) have been used to treat different indications of AF for a long time, but its use is limited due to potential proarrhythmic cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular toxicity as well as the modest impact on the maintenance of sinus rhythm. Recently, Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) exhibits an excellent effect on PAF. This article primarily investigated the key points of common syndromes, TCM nursing methods and healthy guidance of PAF, aiming at maintaining and developing the strengths of TCM, improving its efficacy and standardizing its behavior. 展开更多

Introduction:Palpitation is a common complaint among patients presenting to emergency departments or cardiologists.Palpitation caused by organic heart diseases, such as coronary atherosclerotic heart disease and hypertensive heart disease, may be a sign of a life-threatening condition. In such cases, treatment with western medicines or surgeries is warranted. However, for patients with palpitation caused by noncardiac factors, western medicine treatment is often ineffective, and traditional Chinese medicine has comparatively superior advantage. With the change in people’s lifestyle and habits in the past decades, the time spent sitting and that with a forward head posture is increasing, which has accelerated the process of spinal aging and increased the incidence rate of spinal diseases.Case presentation:A 54-year-old female presented with paroxysmal palpitations, chest depression, and neck pain that had lasted for more than 2 months.Western medicine diagnosis was palpitations due to spinal disorders, while the traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis was palpitation(heart and spleen deficiency). The patient was treated with traditional Chinese massage,30 min sessions,5 times a week,3 weeks totally.Subsequently, the patient’s neck pain and numbness disappeared and the palpitations, chest tightness, and dizziness ameliorated. The patient resumed regular appetite, experienced better sleep, and had further improvement of spirit, enabling her to lead a normal life. Conclusions:Traditional Chinese massage therapy can relieve muscle spasm, regulate cervical facet joint disorder and dislocation, release adhesion, relieve synovial incarceration, restore the dynamic and static balance of the cervical spine, improve blood circulation of the cervical spine, increase the nutritional supply of the cervical spine and surrounding soft tissue, and promote metabolism and tissue repair. All these advantages make it a good complementary and alternative therapy for palpitation caused by spine disorders. 展开更多
