This study aimed to quantify the loss of life expectancy(LOLE) resulting from a cancer diagnosis and examine disparities in LOLE based on area-level socioeconomic status(SES).Methods: Data were collected for all people between 50 and 89 years of age who were diagnosed with cancer, registered in the NSW Cancer Registry between 2001 and 2019, and underwent mortality follow-up evaluations until December 2020. Flexible parametric survival models were fitted to estimate the LOLE by gender and area-level SES for 12 common cancers. Results: Of 422,680 people with cancer, 24% and 18% lived in the most and least disadvantaged areas, respectively. Patients from the most disadvantaged areas had a significantly greater average LOLE than patients from the least disadvantaged areas for cancers with high survival rates, including prostate [2.9 years(95% CI: 2.5±3.2 years) vs. 1.6 years(95% CI: 1.3±1.9 years)] and breast cancer [1.6 years(95% CI: 1.4±1.8 years) vs. 1.2 years(95% CI: 1.0±1.4 years)]. The highest average LOLE occurred in males residing in the most disadvantaged areas with pancreatic [16.5 years(95% CI: 16.1±16.8 years) vs. 16.2 years(95% CI: 15.7±16.7 years)] and liver cancer [15.5 years(95% CI: 15.0±16.0 years) vs. 14.7 years(95% CI: 14.0±15.5 years)]. Females residing in the least disadvantaged areas with thyroid cancer [0.9 years(95% CI: 0.4±1.4 years) vs. 0.6 years(95% CI: 0.2±1.0 years)] or melanoma [0.9 years(95% CI: 0.8±1.1 years) vs. 0.7 years(95% CI: 0.5±0.8 years)] had the lowest average LOLE.Conclusions: Patients from the most disadvantaged areas had the highest LOLE with SES-based differences greatest for patients diagnosed with cancer at an early stage or cancers with higher survival rates, suggesting the need to prioritise early detection and reduce treatment-related barriers and survivorship challenges to improve life expectancy.展开更多

文摘High-power O-mode radio waves can excite artificial instabilities in the F region, according to experiments conducted at the European Incoherent Scatter Science Association(EISCAT)heating facility. The main instabilities include the parametric decay instability(PDI),oscillating two-stream instability(OTSI),and thermal parametric instability(TPI).The PDI and OTSI not only compete with each other, but also compete with the TPI,leading to a two-stage overshoot phenomenon:a miniovershoot occurs on a millisecond time scale after pump-on,followed by the main overshoot. We gain insight into the miniovershoot via a generalized Zakharov model, whereas the main overshoot can be observed as an enhanced plasma line overshoot phenomenon in incoherent scatter radar spectra. We can also observe that the zero-frequency ion line exists only in the initial heating period after a cold start and that the upshifted and downshifted ion lines behave irregularly in the spectra. The simulation results show that competition between the PDI and OTSI leads to an initial peak, which we named the pre-miniovershoot.The following processes, namely ion density caviton generation, and collapse and cascade in the development of the PDI,contribute to the miniovershoot phenomenon.

文摘Objective: Improvement in cancer survival over recent decades has not been accompanied by a narrowing of socioeconomic disparities. 0.7 years(95% CI: 0.5±0.8 years)] had the lowest average LOLE.Conclusions: Patients from the most disadvantaged areas had the highest LOLE with SES-based differences greatest for patients diagnosed with cancer at an early stage or cancers with higher survival rates, suggesting the need to prioritise early detection and reduce treatment-related barriers and survivorship challenges to improve life expectancy.

文摘A Josephson traveling wave parametric amplifier(JTWPA),which is a quantum-limited amplifier with high gain and large bandwidth,is the core device of large-scale measurement and control systems for quantum computing.A typical JTWPA consists of thousands of Josephson junctions connected in series to form a transmission line and hundreds of shunt LC resonators periodically loaded along the line for phase matching.Because the variation of these capacitors and inductors can be detrimental to their high-frequency characteristics, the fabrication of a JTWPA typically necessitates precise processing equipment. To guide the fabrication process and further improve the design for manufacturability,it is necessary to understand how each electronic component affects the amplifier. In this paper,we use the harmonic balance method to conduct a comprehensive study on the impact of nonuniformity and fabrication yield of the electronic components on the performance of a JTWPA.The results provide insightful and scientific guidance for device design and fabrication processes.

文摘Due to the novel applications of flexible pipes conveying fluid in the field of soft robotics and biomedicine, the investigations on the mechanical responses of the pipes have attracted considerable attention. The fluid-structure interaction(FSI)between the pipe with a curved shape and the time-varying internal fluid flow brings a great challenge to the revelation of the dynamical behaviors of flexible pipes, especially when the pipe is highly flexible and usually undergoes large deformations. In this work, the geometrically exact model(GEM)for a curved cantilevered pipe conveying pulsating fluid is developed based on the extended Hamilton's principle. The stability of the curved pipe with three different subtended angles is examined with the consideration of steady fluid flow.Specific attention is concentrated on the large-deformation resonance of circular pipes conveying pulsating fluid, which is often encountered in practical engineering.By constructing bifurcation diagrams, oscillating shapes, phase portraits, time traces, and Poincarémaps, the dynamic responses of the curved pipe under various system parameters are revealed. The mean flow velocity of the pulsating fluid is chosen to be either subcritical or supercritical. The numerical results show that the curved pipe conveying pulsating fluid can exhibit rich dynamical behaviors, including periodic and quasi-periodic motions. It is also found that the preferred instability type of a cantilevered curved pipe conveying steady fluid is mainly in the flutter of the second mode. For a moderate value of the mass ratio, however,a third-mode flutter may occur, which is quite different from that of a straight pipe system.
文摘Fishing boats have unique features that make them prone to changing loading conditions. When the boat leaves the port, the empty fish tank gradually fills up during fishing operations which may result in parametric roll(PR).This dangerous phenomenon that can lead to capsizing. The present study aims to understand better the behaviour of parametric roll in fishing boats and its relation to changing loading conditions. The study considers the effects of displacement and the GM/KM ratio on parametric roll,as well as the longitudinal flare distribution at the waterline. Two assessments to detect the parametric roll occurrence in early stage were carried out by using the level 1 assessment of parametric roll based on the Second Generation of Intact Stability criteria(SGIS)from International maritime Organisation(IMO)and the Susceptibility criteria of Parametric roll from the American Bureau of Shipping(ABS).Then, the CFD method is used to predict the amplitude of the parametric roll phenomenon. The results provide important insights to fishing vessel operators on how to manage loading conditions to maintain stability and avoid hazardous situations.By following the guidelines outlined in this study, fishing boats can operate more safely and efficiently, reducing the risk of accidents and improving the overall sustainability of the fishing industry.

文摘The widespread adoption of aluminumalloy electric buses, known for their energy efficiency and eco-friendliness,faces a challenge due to the aluminum frame’s susceptibility to deformation compared to steel. This issue is further exacerbated by the stringent requirements imposed by the flammability and explosiveness of batteries, necessitating robust frame protection. Our study aims to optimize the connectors of aluminum alloy bus frames, emphasizing durability, energy efficiency, and safety. This research delves into Multi-Objective Coordinated Optimization(MCO)techniques for lightweight design in aluminum alloy bus body connectors. Our goal is to enhance lightweighting, reinforce energy absorption, and improve deformation resistance in connector components.Three typical aluminum alloy connectors were selected and a design optimization platform was built for their MCO using a variety of software and methods.Firstly, through three-point bending experiments and finite element analysis on three types of connector components,we identified optimized design parameters based on deformation patterns. Then, employing Optimal Latin hypercube design(OLHD),parametric modeling, and neural network approximation,we developed high-precision approximate models for the design parameters of each connector component, targeting energy absorption, mass, and logarithmic strain.Lastly, utilizing the Archive-based Micro Genetic Algorithm(AMGA),Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization(MOPSO),and Non-dominated SortingGenetic Algorithm(NSGA2),we explored optimized design solutions for these joint components.Subsequently,we simulated joint assembly buckling during bus rollover crash scenarios to verify and analyze the optimized solutions in three-point bending simulations. Each joint component showcased a remarkable 30%–40%mass reduction while boosting energy absorption. Our design optimization method exhibits high efficiency and costeffectiveness.Leveraging contemporary automation technology, the design optimization platform developed in this study is poised to facilitate intelligent optimization of lightweight metal components in future applications.

文摘Despite continuous efforts to improve the robustness of cardiac valve implants, neither bioprosthetic nor mechanical valves fulfill both hemodynamic and durability requirements. This study discussed novel flexible leaflet designs, focusing on polymeric materials with proven hemocompatibility, such as polyether ether ketone,of much higher stiffness than native tissue, aiming at optimal valve implants.A biomimetic valve with a single-curvature belly-curve(B-C)was used as a reference for new design variants with a double-curvature B-C with varying radii.Soft(13.2 MPa)and stiff(2.4 GPa)leaflet materials and different thicknesses were studied using lean simulations and in vitro experiments under physiologic hemodynamic conditions. The performance was assessed using opening pressure(OP)and orifice area(OA).The latter was determined by a newly developed automatized image processing tool.Experimental trends are in agreement with simulations and demonstrated that a buckling-inspired double-curvature leaflet design significantly enhances the trileaflet valve opening behavior, which is particularly advantageous for stiffer leaflet materials.Compared to the reference, the best-performing variant showed an OP improvement of 47%and 44%based on simulations and experiments, respectively. In contrast, the achieved mean pressure differential was directly comparable to state-of-the-art bioprosthetic valves. The OA was slightly reduced for new variants but still in the satisfying range.

文摘Broadband photon pairs are highly desirable for quantum metrology, quantum sensing, and quantum communication.Such sources are usually designed through type-0 phase-matching spontaneous parametric down-conversion(SPDC)that makes the photon pairs hard to separate in the frequency-degenerate case and thus limits their applications. In this paper,we design a broadband frequency-degenerate telecom-band photon pair source via the type-II SPDC in a dispersion-engineered thin-film lithium niobate waveguide, where the polarization modes of photon pairs are orthogonal and thus are easily separated deterministically. With a 5-mm-long waveguide, our design can achieve a bandwidth of 5.56 THz(44.8 nm),which is 8.6 times larger than that of the bulk lithium niobate, and the central wavelength can be flexibly adjusted. Our design is a promising approach towards high-quality integrated photon sources and may have wide applications in photonic quantum technologies.

文摘The surrounding geological conditions and supporting structures of underground engineering are often updated during construction, and these updates require repeated numerical modeling. To improve the numerical modeling efficiency of underground engineering,a modularized and parametric modeling cloud server is developed by using Python codes. The basic framework of the cloud server is as follows:input the modeling parameters into the web platform, implement Rhino software and FLAC3D software to model and run simulations in the cloud server, and return the simulation results to the web platform. The modeling program can automatically generate instructions that can run the modeling process in Rhino based on the input modeling parameters. The main modules of the modeling program include modeling the 3D geological structures, the underground engineering structures, and the supporting structures as well as meshing the geometric models. In particular, various cross-sections of underground caverns are crafted as parametricmodules in themodeling program.Themodularized and parametric modeling program is used for a finite element simulation of the underground powerhouse of the Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station. This complicatedmodel is rapidly generated for the simulation, and the simulation results are reasonable. Thus, this modularized and parametric modeling program is applicable for three-dimensional finite element simulations and analyses.
文摘The quantum entangled photon-pair source,as an essential component of optical quantum systems, holds great potential for applications such as quantum teleportation,quan-tum computing, and quantum imaging. The current workhorse technique for preparing photon pairs involves performing spon-taneous parametric down conversion(SPDC)in bulk nonlinear crystals. However, the current power consumption and cost of preparing entangled photon-pair sources are relatively high,pos-ing challenges to their integration and scalability. In this paper,we propose a low-power system model for the quantum entan-gled photon-pair source based on SPDC theory and phase matching technology. This model allows us to analyze the per-formance of each module and the influence of component cha-racteristics on the overall system. In our experimental setup,we utilize a 5 mW laser diode and a typical type-II barium metabo-rate(BBO)crystal to prepare an entangled photon-pair source. The experimental results are in excellent agreement with the model, indicating a significant step towards achieving the goal of low-power and low-cost entangled photon-pair sources. This achievement not only contributes to the practical application of quantum entanglement lighting, but also paves the way for the widespread adoption of optical quantum systems in the future.

文摘Many important problems in science and engineering require solving the so-called parametric partial differential equations(PDEs),i.e.,PDEs with different physical parameters, boundary conditions, shapes of computational domains, etc.Typical reduced order modeling techniques accelerate the solution of the parametric PDEs by projecting them onto a linear trial manifold constructed in the ofline stage. These methods often need a predefined mesh as well as a series of precomputed solution snapshots, and may struggle to balance between the efficiency and accuracy due to the limitation of the linear ansatz.Utilizing the nonlinear representation of neural networks(NNs),we propose the Meta-Auto-Decoder(MAD)to construct a nonlinear trial manifold, whose best possible performance is measured theoretically by the decoder width.Based on the meta-learning concept, the trial manifold can be learned in a mesh-free and unsupervised way during the pre-training stage.Fast adaptation to new(possibly heterogeneous)PDE parameters is enabled by searching on this trial manifold, and optionally fine-tuning the trial manifold at the same time.Extensive numerical experiments show that the MAD method exhibits a faster convergence speed without losing the accuracy than other deep learning-based methods.
文摘Spontaneous combustion of coal increases the temperature in adjoining overburden strata of coal seams and poses a challenge when loading blastholes. This condition, known as hot-hole blasting,is dangerous due to the increased possibility of premature explosions in loaded blastholes. Thus,it is crucial to load the blastholes with an appropriate amount of explosives within a short period to avoid premature detonation caused by high temperatures of blastholes.Additionally,it will help achieve the desired fragment size. This study tried to ascertain the most influencial variables of mean fragment size and their optimum values adopted for blasting in a fiery seam.Data on blast design, rock mass, and fragmentation of 100 blasts in fiery seams of a coal mine were collected and used to develop mean fragmentation prediction models using soft computational techniques. The coefficient of determination(R^(2)),root mean square error(RMSE),mean absolute error(MAE),mean square error(MSE),variance account for(VAF)and coefficient of efficiency in percentage(CE)were calculated to validate the results. It indicates that the random forest algorithm(RFA)outperforms the artificial neural network(ANN),response surface method(RSM),and decision tree(DT).The values of R^(2),RMSE,MAE,MSE,VAF,and CE for RFA are 0.94,0.034,0.027,0.001,93.58,and 93.01,respectively.Multiple parametric sensitivity analyses(MPSAs)of the input variables showed that the Schmidt hammer rebound number and spacing-to-burden ratio are the most influencial variables for the blast fragment size. The analysis was finally used to define the best blast design variables to achieve optimum fragment size from blasting. The optimum factor values for RFA of S/B,ld/B and ls/ld are 1.03,1.85 and 0.7,respectively.

文摘By integrating advanced digital technologies such as cloud computing and the Internet of Things in sensor measurement, information communication, and other fields, the digital DC distribution network can efficiently and reliably access DistributedGenerator(DG)and Energy Storage Systems(ESS),exhibiting significant advantages in terms of controllability and meeting requirements of Plug-and-Play(PnP)operations.However,during device plug-in and-out processes, improper systemparametersmay lead to small-signal stability issues. Therefore, before executing PnP operations, conducting stability analysis and adjusting parameters swiftly is crucial. This study introduces a four-stage strategy for parameter optimization to enhance systemstability efficiently. In the first stage,state-of-the-art technologies in measurement and communication are utilized to correct model parameters. Then,a novel indicator is adopted to identify the key parameters that influence stability in the second stage. Moreover,in the third stage,a local-parameter-tuning strategy, which leverages rapid parameter boundary calculations as a more efficient alternative to plotting root loci,is used to tune the selected parameters.Considering that the local-parameter-tuning strategy may fail due to some operating parameters being limited in adjustment,a multiparameter-tuning strategy based on the particle swarm optimization(PSO)is proposed to comprehensively adjust the dominant parameters to improve the stability margin of the system.Lastly, system stability is reassessed in the fourth stage. The proposed parameter-optimization strategy’s effectiveness has been validated through eigenvalue analysis and nonlinear time-domain simulations.
文摘Experiments were conducted in this study to examine the thermal performance of a thermosyphon, made from Inconel alloy 625,could recover waste heat from automobile exhaust using a limited amount of fluid. The thermosyphon has an outer diameter of 27 mm,a thickness of 2.6 mm,and an overall length of 483 mm.The study involved directing exhaust gas onto the evaporator. This length includes a 180-mm evaporator,a 70-mm adiabatic section,a 223-mm condenser, and a 97-mm finned exchanger. The study examined the thermal performance of the thermosyphon under exhaust flow rates ranging from 0–10 g/sec and temperatures varying from 300℃–900℃.The influence of three parameters—inclination angle(5°–45°),water mass(2–5.3 g),and the quantity of non-condensable gas Argon(0–0.6 g)—was investigated to assess their impacts on the thermosyphon’s thermal efficiency. The experimental findings revealed that with 3 g of water and 0.0564 g of argon in the thermosyphon, the condenser reached its highest temperature at around 200℃.The ideal fuel loading rate for the thermosyphon falls between 0.2 and 0.7 g/s.Moreover,as inclination angles rise, outer wall temperatures of the thermosyphon increase. This is attributed to the explicit expansion of the effective heating area within the evaporation section, coupled with an amplified gravitational component of the water flux.Additionally,an upsurge in the quantity of non-condensable gas(NCG)can mitigate temperature gradients on the outer wall, resulting in a decline in the thermosyphon’s performance. The insulation applied to the adiabatic section demonstrated efficacy in augmenting temperature gradients on the outer wall, thereby improving the overall performance of the thermosyphon. As the water charge within the thermosyphon increases, there is a corresponding rise in heat transfer rates both from the exhaust to the thermosyphon and from the thermosyphon to the fuel.
