Park-and-ride (P&R) facilities can alleviate the traffic burden in central urban areas by enabling car drivers to park at the perimeter of congested areas and continue their journeys with public transportation (e.g., metro and bus rapid transit). Whether a P&R scheme is successful depends on its attractiveness to car users. This paper presents anevaluation method for the reliability analysis of P&R mode. Two indices, P&R reliability and mode reliability, are in- troduced to represent the reliabilities of a transfer point and an entire trip, respectively. Then, a systematic reliability analysis is conducted for a stochastic P&R network, where travelers can complete their journeys via two options: auto mode or P&R mode. A variational inequality (VI) model is proposed and solved by a heuristic solution algorithm. Nu- merical results show that the P&R facility reliability is significantly influenced by the capacity of parking facilities, the dispatching frequency of the connecting metro, and the metro fare. In addition, a higher level of total demand in the network has significant negative impacts on P&R mode's attractiveness compared to auto mode. 展开更多

As an effective travel demand management means,park-and-ride(P&R)mode is an important part of urban traffic.In a traffic corridor with P&R service,suppose that the travel time on highway is uncertain,a cumulative prospect theory(CPT)-based travel decision-making model is established with two travel modes of driving all the way and(P&R).With this setting,the effect of various factors such as the transit fare rate,the parking fee and the total travel demand on the CPT-based and expected utility theory(EUT)-based equilibrium results are compared.In addition,the sensitivity analysis focus on CPT-related parameters are also performed.The numerical results in our case show that the equilibrium flow on P&R mode is always underestimated in an EUT-based model,especially for a low total travel demand.Also,it is found that reducing the transit fare rate or parking fee for P&R station and raising the parking fee for CBD has the same effect on promoting more commuters transfer to P&R mode,whatever CPT-based or EUT-based model is employed.Furthermore,commuter’s reference dependence characteristic is also observed in a CPT-based model,and it is especially noticeable when the road uncertainty is large. 展开更多

This paper presents a network equilibrium formulation for modeling commuters' travel choices in a bimodal transport system with park-and-ride (P&R) trips while the total demand is elastic to the congestion level of the network. A super-network approach is adopted in the proposed model. It is assumed that commuters' trips are categorized into two types, auto mode only and a combined mode with both auto and transit modes. The former is referred to as the pure mode trip and the latter as the P&R mode trip. The proposed model simultaneously considers the commuter's choice of the pure mode versus the P&R mode, the choice of parking location for the pure mode, the choice of transfer point for the P&R mode, as well as the route choice for each mode. The demand elasticity of transport system, the capacity constraints of transport facilities, and the congestion interaction throughout the super-network are also explicitly incorporated into the proposed model. The results of the numerical experiment show the following key findings: (i) traditional parking/P&R models may overestimate or underestimate travel demand distribution over network; (ii) parking/P&R, transit scheduling, and carpooling schemes bring significant impacts on commuters' travel behavior and network performance; and (iii) different transport policies may be to some extent mutually substituted . 展开更多

Park-and-Ride(P&R),referring to the transfer between private cars and public transportation,is a public policy and travel mode that advocates green travel to reduce traffic congestion in big cities.Through an analysis on the development and focus of P&R research in China and abroad,this paper examines the research progress and explores the research trend on P&R from the perspective of travel mode choice,transfer demand forecast,location planning,operational management,and benefit evaluation.It points out that,compared with the research abroad,the P&R research in China is insufficient on the subjects of transportation planning and benefit evaluation.It proposes that,in future,research should focus more on planning,management,and benefit evaluation of P&R,so as to enhance the intelligent management of transportation system and promote the implementation of policies supporting P&R development. 展开更多
