The COVID-19 outbreak has significantly disrupted the lives of individuals worldwide.Following the lifting of COVID-19 interventions, there is a heightened risk of future outbreaks from other circulating respiratory infections, such as influenza-like illness(ILI).Accurate prediction models for ILI cases are crucial in enabling governments to implement necessary measures and persuade individuals to adopt personal precautions against the disease. This paper aims to provide a forecasting model for ILI cases with actual cases. We propose a specific model utilizing the partial differential equation(PDE)that will be developed and validated using real-world data obtained from the Chinese National Influenza Center. Our model combines the effects of transboundary spread among regions in China mainland and human activities’impact on ILI transmission dynamics. The simulated results demonstrate that our model achieves excellent predictive performance.Additionally, relevant factors influencing the dissemination are further examined in our analysis.Furthermore,we investigate the effectiveness of travel restrictions on ILI cases. Results can be used to utilize to mitigate the spread of disease. 展开更多

Many important problems in science and engineering require solving the so-called parametric partial differential equations(PDEs),i.e.,PDEs with different physical parameters, boundary conditions, shapes of computational domains, etc.Typical reduced order modeling techniques accelerate the solution of the parametric PDEs by projecting them onto a linear trial manifold constructed in the ofline stage. These methods often need a predefined mesh as well as a series of precomputed solution snapshots, and may struggle to balance between the efficiency and accuracy due to the limitation of the linear ansatz.Utilizing the nonlinear representation of neural networks(NNs),we propose the Meta-Auto-Decoder(MAD)to construct a nonlinear trial manifold, whose best possible performance is measured theoretically by the decoder width.Based on the meta-learning concept, the trial manifold can be learned in a mesh-free and unsupervised way during the pre-training stage.Fast adaptation to new(possibly heterogeneous)PDE parameters is enabled by searching on this trial manifold, and optionally fine-tuning the trial manifold at the same time.Extensive numerical experiments show that the MAD method exhibits a faster convergence speed without losing the accuracy than other deep learning-based methods. 展开更多

This paper is aimed at solving the nonlinear time-fractional partial differential equation with two small parameters arising from option pricing model in financial economics. The traditional reproducing kernel(RK)method which deals with this problem is very troublesome. This paper proposes a new method by adaptive multi-step piecewise interpolation reproducing kernel(AMPIRK)method for the first time. This method has three obvious advantages which are as follows.Firstly, the piecewise number is reduced.Secondly, the calculation accuracy is improved. Finally, the waste time caused by too many fragments is avoided. Then four numerical examples show that this new method has a higher precision and it is a more timesaving numerical method than the others. The research in this paper provides a powerful mathematical tool for solving time-fractional option pricing model which will play an important role in financial economics. 展开更多

We propose new hybrid Lagrange neural networks called LaNets to predict the numerical solutions of partial differential equations. That is,we embed Lagrange interpolation and small sample learning into deep neural network frameworks.Concretely,we first perform Lagrange interpolation in front of the deep feedforward neural network. The Lagrange basis function has a neat structure and a strong expression ability, which is suitable to be a preprocessing tool for pre-fitting and feature extraction.Second,we introduce small sample learning into training, which is beneficial to guide themodel to be corrected quickly.Taking advantages of the theoretical support of traditional numerical method and the efficient allocation of modern machine learning,LaNets achieve higher predictive accuracy compared to the state-of-the-artwork.The stability and accuracy of the proposed algorithmare demonstrated through a series of classical numerical examples, including one-dimensional Burgers equation, onedimensional carburizing diffusion equations,two-dimensional Helmholtz equation and two-dimensional Burgers equation.Experimental results validate the robustness, effectiveness and flexibility of the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

Machine learning of partial differential equations(PDEs)from data is a potential breakthrough for addressing the lack of physical equations in complex dynamic systems.Recently, sparse regression has emerged as an attractive approach. However, noise presents the biggest challenge in sparse regression for identifying equations,as it relies on local derivative evaluations of noisy data. This study proposes a simple and general approach that significantly improves noise robustness by projecting the evaluated time derivative and partial differential term into a subspace with less noise. This method enables accurate reconstruction of PDEs involving high-order derivatives, even from data with considerable noise.Additionally,we discuss and compare the effects of the proposed method based on Fourier subspace and POD(proper orthogonal decomposition)subspace.Generally, the latter yields better results since it preserves the maximum amount of information. 展开更多

Physics-informed neural networks(PINNs)have become an attractive machine learning framework for obtaining solutions to partial differential equations(PDEs).PINNs embed initial, boundary, and PDE constraints into the loss function. The performance of PINNs is generally affected by both training and sampling.Specifically, training methods focus on how to overcome the training difficulties caused by the special PDE residual loss of PINNs,and sampling methods are concerned with the location and distribution of the sampling points upon which evaluations of PDE residual loss are accomplished. However,a common problem among these original PINNs is that they omit special temporal information utilization during the training or sampling stages when dealing with an important PDE category,namely,time-dependent PDEs,where temporal information plays a key role in the algorithms used. There is one method, called Causal PINN,that considers temporal causality at the training level but not special temporal utilization at the sampling level.Incorporating temporal knowledge into sampling remains to be studied. To fill this gap,we propose a novel temporal causality-based adaptive sampling method that dynamically determines the sampling ratio according to both PDE residual and temporal causality.By designing a sampling ratio determined by both residual loss and temporal causality to control the number and location of sampled points in each temporal sub-domain,we provide a practical solution by incorporating temporal information into sampling.Numerical experiments of several nonlinear time-dependent PDEs,including the Cahn–Hilliard,Korteweg–de Vries,Allen–Cahn and wave equations, show that our proposed sampling method can improve the performance. We demonstrate that using such a relatively simple sampling method can improve prediction performance by up to two orders of magnitude compared with the results from other methods, especially when points are limited. 展开更多

Partial Differential Equation(PDE)is among the most fundamental tools employed to model dynamic systems.Existing PDE modeling methods are typically derived from established knowledge and known phenomena, which are time-consuming and labor-intensive.Recently,discovering governing PDEs from collected actual data via Physics Informed Neural Networks(PINNs)provides a more efficient way to analyze fresh dynamic systems and establish PEDmodels. This study proposes Sequentially Threshold Least Squares-Lasso(STLasso),a module constructed by incorporating Lasso regression into the Sequentially Threshold Least Squares(STLS)algorithm, which can complete sparse regression of PDE coefficients with the constraints of l0 norm.It further introduces PINN-STLasso,a physics informed neural network combined with Lasso sparse regression, able to find underlying PDEs from data with reduced data requirements and better interpretability. In addition, this research conducts experiments on canonical inverse PDE problems and compares the results to several recent methods. The results demonstrated that the proposed PINN-STLasso outperforms other methods, achieving lower error rates even with less data. 展开更多

Machine learning has been widely used for solving partial differential equations(PDEs)in recent years, among which the random feature method(RFM)exhibits spectral accuracy and can compete with traditional solvers in terms of both accuracy and efficiency.Potentially, the optimization problem in the RFM is more difficult to solve than those that arise in traditional methods.Unlike the broader machine-learning research, which frequently targets tasks within the low-precision regime, our study focuses on the high-precision regime crucial for solving PDEs.In this work,we study this problem from the following aspects:(i)we analyze the coeffcient matrix that arises in the RFM by studying the distribution of singular values;(ii)we investigate whether the continuous training causes the overfitting issue;(ii)we test direct and iterative methods as well as randomized methods for solving the optimization problem.Based on these results,we find that direct methods are superior to other methods if memory is not an issue, while iterative methods typically have low accuracy and can be improved by preconditioning to some extent. 展开更多

Two of the main challenges in optimal control are solving problems with state-dependent running costs and developing efficient numerical solvers that are computationally tractable in high dimensions. In this paper,we provide analytical solutions to certain optimal control problems whose running cost depends on the state variable and with constraints on the control. We also provide Lax-Oleinik-type representation formulas for the corresponding Hamilton-Jacobi partial differential equations with state-dependent Hamiltonians.Additionally,we present an efficient,grid-free numerical solver based on our representation formulas, which is shown to scale linearly with the state dimension, and thus,to overcome the curse of dimensionality.Using existing optimization methods and the min-plus technique,we extend our numerical solvers to address more general classes of convex and nonconvex initial costs. We demonstrate the capabilities of our numerical solvers using implementations on a central processing unit(CPU)and a field-programmable gate array(FPGA).In several cases, our FPGA implementation obtains over a 10 times speedup compared to the CPU,which demonstrates the promising performance boosts FPGAs can achieve. Our numerical results show that our solvers have the potential to serve as a building block for solving broader classes of high-dimensional optimal control problems in real-time. 展开更多

Due to the fact that the fourth-order partial differential equation (PDE) for noise removal can provide a good trade-off between noise removal and edge preservation and avoid blocky effects often caused by the second-order PDE, a domain-based fourth-order PDE method for noise removal is proposed. First, the proposed method segments the image domain into two domains, a speckle domain and a non-speckle domain, based on the statistical properties of isolated speckles in the Laplacian domain. Then, depending on the domain type, different conductance coefficients in the proposed fourth-order PDE are adopted. Moreover, the frequency approach is used to determine the optimum iteration stopping time. Compared with the existing fourth-order PDEs, the proposed fourth-order PDE can remove isolated speckles and keeps the edges from being blurred. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多

Hessian matrices are square matrices consisting of all possible combinations of second partial derivatives of a scalar-valued initial function. As such, Hessian matrices may be treated as elementary matrix systems of linear second-order partial differential equations. This paper discusses the Hessian and its applications in optimization, and then proceeds to introduce and derive the notion of the Jaffa Transform, a new linear operator that directly maps a Hessian square matrix space to the initial corresponding scalar field in nth dimensional Euclidean space. The Jaffa Transform is examined, including the properties of the operator, the transform of notable matrices, and the existence of an inverse Jaffa Transform, which is, by definition, the Hessian matrix operator. The Laplace equation is then noted and investigated, particularly, the relation of the Laplace equation to Poisson’s equation, and the theoretical applications and correlations of harmonic functions to Hessian matrices. The paper concludes by introducing and explicating the Jaffa Theorem, a principle that declares the existence of harmonic Jaffa Transforms, which are, essentially, Jaffa Transform solutions to the Laplace partial differential equation. 展开更多

The waveguide which is at the center of our concerns in this work is a strongly flattened waveguide, that is to say characterized by a strong dispersion and in addition is strongly nonlinear. As this type of waveguide contains multiple dispersion coefficients according to the degrees of spatial variation within it, our work in this article is to see how these dispersions and nonlinearities each influence the wave or the signal that can propagate in the waveguide. Since the partial differential equation which governs the dynamics of propagation in such transmission medium presents several dispersion and nonlinear coefficients, we check how they contribute to the choices of the solutions that we want them to verify this nonlinear partial differential equation. This effectively requires an adequate choice of the form of solution to be constructed. Thus, this article is based on three main pillars, namely: first of all, making a good choice of the solution function to be constructed, secondly, determining the exact solutions and, if necessary, remodeling the main equation such that it is possible;then check the impact of the dispersion and nonlinear coefficients on the solutions. Finally, the reliability of the solutions obtained is tested by a study of the propagation. Another very important aspect is the use of notions of probability to select the predominant solutions. 展开更多

In this article, we study the impacts of nonlinearity and dispersion on signals likely to propagate in the context of the dynamics of four-wave mixing. Thus, we use an indirect resolution technique based on the use of the iB-function to first decouple the nonlinear partial differential equations that govern the propagation dynamics in this case, and subsequently solve them to propose some prototype solutions. These analytical solutions have been obtained;we check the impact of nonlinearity and dispersion. The interest of this work lies not only in the resolution of the partial differential equations that govern the dynamics of wave propagation in this case since these equations not at all easy to integrate analytically and their analytical solutions are very rare, in other words, we propose analytically the solutions of the nonlinear coupled partial differential equations which govern the dynamics of four-wave mixing in optical fibers. Beyond the physical interest of this work, there is also an appreciable mathematical interest. 展开更多

Accurately approximating higher order derivatives is an inherently difficult problem. It is shown that a random variable shape parameter strategy can improve the accuracy of approximating higher order derivatives with Radial Basis Function methods. The method is used to solve fourth order boundary value problems. The use and location of ghost points are examined in order to enforce the extra boundary conditions that are necessary to make a fourth-order problem well posed. The use of ghost points versus solving an overdetermined linear system via least squares is studied. For a general fourth-order boundary value problem, the recommended approach is to either use one of two novel sets of ghost centers introduced here or else to use a least squares approach. When using either ghost centers or least squares, the random variable shape parameter strategy results in significantly better accuracy than when a constant shape parameter is used. 展开更多

It is used to find new exacttravelling wave solutions of nonlinear partial differential equation or coupled nonlinear partial differential equations(PDEs). Based on the idea of the homogeneous balance method, we construct the general mapping relation betweenthe solutions of the PDEs and those of the cubic nonlinear Klein-Gordon (NKG) equation.
