For accurately identifying the distribution charac-teristic of Gaussian-like noises in unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)state estimation, this paper proposes a non-parametric scheme based on curve similarity matching. In the framework of the pro-posed scheme,a Parzen window(kernel density estimation,KDE)method on sliding window technology is applied for roughly esti-mating the sample probability density,a precise data probability density function(PDF)model is constructed with the least square method on K-fold cross validation, and the testing result based on evaluation method is obtained based on some data characteristic analyses of curve shape, abruptness and symmetry. Some com-parison simulations with classical methods and UAV flight exper-iment shows that the proposed scheme has higher recognition accuracy than classical methods for some kinds of Gaussian-like data, which provides better reference for the design of Kalman filter(KF)in complex water environment. 展开更多

Adaptive digital filtering has traditionally been developed based on the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion and has found ever-increasing applications in communications. This paper presents an alternative adaptive filtering design based on the minimum symbol error rate (MSER) criterion for communication applications. It is shown that the MSER filtering is smarter, as it exploits the non-Gaussian distribution of filter output effectively. Consequently, it provides significant performance gain in terms of smaller symbol error over the MMSE approach. Adopting Parzen window or kernel density estimation for a probability density function, a block-data gradient adaptive MSER algorithm is derived. A stochastic gradient adaptive MSER algorithm, referred to as the least symbol error rate, is further developed for sample-by-sample adaptive implementation of the MSER filtering. Two applications, involving single-user channel equalization and beamforming assisted receiver, are included to demonstrate the effectiveness and generality of the proposed adaptive MSER filtering approach. 展开更多

A mutual information based 3D non-rigid registration approach was proposed for the registration of deformable CT/MR body abdomen images. The Parzen Windows Density Estimation (PWDE) method is adopted to calculate the mutual information between the two modals of CT and MRI abdomen images. By maximizing MI between the CT and MR volume images, the overlapping part of them reaches the biggest, which means that the two body images of CT and MR matches best to each other. Visible Human Project (VHP) Male abdomen CT and MRI Data are used as experimental data sets. The experimental results indicate that this approach of non-rigid 3D registration of CT/MR body abdominal images can be achieved effectively and automatically, without any prior processing procedures such as segmentation and feature extraction, but has a main drawback of very long computation time. 展开更多

This paper presents a novel time delay estimation (TDE) method using the concept of entropy. The relative delay is estimated by minimizing the estimated joint entropy of multiple sensor output signals. When estimating the entropy, the information about the prior distribution of the source signal is not required. Instead, the Parzen window estimator is employed to estimate the density function of the source signal from multiple sensor output signals. Meanwhile, based on the Parzen window estimator, the Renyi's quadratic entropy (RQE) is incorporated to effectively and efficiently estimate the high-dimensional joint entropy of the multichannel outputs. Furthermore, a modified form of the joint entropy for embedding information about reverberation (multipath reflections) for speech signals is introduced to enhance the estimator's robustness against reverberation. 展开更多

People attach great importance to high detection probability and low false alarm probability for infrared dim target detection. Consequently, a novel approach is proposed based on inverted local information entropy map and the improved region growing technique. The idea originates from the intrinsic property of natural image, the visual mechanism of flying insects and the information entropy theory. Besides qualitative analyses, other methods including the norms of local signal-to-background ratio, local signal-to-noise ratio, region non-uniformity, single-frame detection probability and single-frame false alarm probability are adopted to quantitatively evaluate the proposed approach. Both qualitative and quantitative comparisons confirm the validity and efficiency of the proposed approach. 展开更多

This paper develops a novel approach to track power system state evolution based on the maximum correntropy criterion, due to its robustness against non-Gaussian errors. It includes the temporal aspects on the estimation process within a maximum-correntropy-based extended Kalman filter(MCEKF),which is able to deal with both nonlinear supervisory control and data acquisition(SCADA)and phasor measurement unit(PMU)measurement models.By representing the behavior of the state variables with a nonparametric model within the kernel density estimation,it is possible to include abrupt state transitions as part of the process noise with non-Gaussian characteristics. Also,a novel strategy to update the size of Parzen windows in the kernel estimation is proposed to suppress the effects of suspect samples.By properly adjusting the kernel bandwidth, the proposed MCEKF keeps its accuracy during sudden load changes and contingencies,or in the presence of bad data.Simulations with IEEE test systems and the Brazilian interconnected system are carried out.The results show that the method deals with non-Gaussian noises in both the process and measurement, and provides accurate estimates of the system state under normal and abnormal conditions. 展开更多
