In this study, the limit equilibrium method is used for estimation of critical seismic passive earth resistance for an inclined wall supporting horizontal cohesionless backfill. A composite failure surface is considered in the present analysis. Seismic forces are computed assuming the backfill soil as a viscoelastic material overlying a rigid stratum and the rigid stratum is subjected to a harmonic shaking. The present method satisfies the boundary conditions. The amplification of acceleration depends on the properties of the backfill soil and on the characteristics of the input motion. The acceleration distribution along the depth of the backfill is found to be nonlinear in nature. The present study shows that the horizontal and vertical acceleration distribution in the backfill soil is not always in-phase for the critical value of the seismic passive earth pressure coefficient. The effect of different parameters on the seismic passive earth pressure is studied in detail. A comparison of the present method with other theories is also presented, which shows the merits of the present study.展开更多

As an important parameter of soil, shear-wave velocity is usually obtained through wave velocity testing in borehole. In this paper, the passive source surface-wave method is introduced into the site engineering seismic survey and practically applied in an engineering site of Shijingshan District. By recording the ubiquitous weak vibration on the earth surface, extract the dispersion curve from the surface-wave components using the SPAC method and obtain the shear-wave velocity structure from inversion. Over the depth of 42 m under- ground, it totally consists of five layers with interface depth of 3.31, 4.50, 7.23, 17.41, and 42.00 m; and shear-wave velocity of 144.0, 198.3, 339.4, 744.2, and 903.7 m/s, respectively. The inversion result is used to evaluate site classification, determine the maximum shear modulus of soil, provide basis for further seismic hazard analysis and site assessment or site zoning, etc. The result shows that the passive source surface-wave method is feasible in the site engineering seismic survey and can replace boreholes, shorten survey period, and reduce engineering cost to some extent.展开更多

The proposed method is based on a limit equilibrium analysis wherein the assumed profile of the backfill failure surface is a composite of logarithmic spiral and its tangent. If the wallesoil interface is smooth, a straight line does not need to be assumed for the failure surface. The geometry of the failure surface is determined using the Mohr circle analysis of the soil. The resultant passive earth thrust is computed considering equilibrium of moments. The passive earth pressure coefficients are calculated with varied values of soil internal friction angle and cohesion, wall friction angle and inclination angle, and sloping backfill angle. This method is verified with the finite element method(FEM) by comparing the horizontal passive earth pressure and failure surface. The results agree well with other solutions, particularly with those obtained by the FEM. The implementation of the present method is efficient. The logarithmic spiral theory is rigorous and self-explanatory for the geotechnical engineer.展开更多

The target image is obtained using double cameras with coaxial optical path. Since there is imaging optical path difference between the cameras, the images are different. Passive seismic velocity tomography based on simultaneous iterative reconstructive technique (SIRT) inversion is used to deduce the stress redistribution around the longwall mining panel. The mining-induced microseismic events were recorded by mounting an array of receivers on the surface, above the active panel. After processing and filtering the seismic data, the three-dimensional tomography images of the p-wave velocity variations by SIRT passive seismic velocity tomography were provided. Sprayers usually moved on the field by tractor, and tractor induced unwanted vibration to sprayer because of uneven soil or terrain. This oscillation leads to over-doses and under-doses of chemical sprayed on the field. For this reason, many commercial and some theoretical suspension were made to reduce undesirable vibration. Therefore, in this study a finite element based model was established to represent the dynamic behavior of spray boom structure with 8m width. The first tenth natural frequencies were obtained between 9.25 Hz to 1,182.5 Hz. Also, a passive vertical suspension was designed to remove unwanted vibration with 0.5 vibration transmissibility. Finally, the suspension system was simulated to be as certain of its efficiency. The results of simulation have good agreement to the proposed aim.展开更多

文摘The most usual way of using chemical method to protect crop against weed, insects, and fungi is spraying the mixture of chemicals and water onto crop through the nozzles. The results of simulation have good agreement to the proposed aim.
文摘Voice is an important topic in academic writing research.Despite increasing research interest, voice has remained a contentious topic. In the article:On the Use of the Passive and Active Voice in Astrophysics Journal Papers:With Extensions to other Languages and other Fields,an interesting hypothesis has been put forward:“Writers of methods sections in this field tend to use we+active when they have made a unique procedural choice or have introduced some technical innovation. On the other hand, the passive seems to be used when authors are simply following established or standard procedures.”Based on the existing research, this paper chooses to study the active and passive forms in the methods section of research articles, and we examine the frequency of the active and passive verb forms in the methods section of two linguistics journal articles. And to verify an old hypothesis:The we+active is used for new stuff, while the passive is preferred for old stuff, this paper will examine the we+active forms and passive verb forms the in methods section in two linguistic journal articles.
