Background:Hospitals have reported that implementing rapid response system activation(RRS)activation has increased patient safety. As a result, there has been growing interest in identifying factors that lead to successful RRS activation. While introducing an automated RRS activation system has prompted nurses to be more vigilant about monitoring vital signs,it has not necessarily encouraged them to conduct thorough patient assessments to identify early signs of deterioration.Purpose:The current study aimed to assess nurses’attitudes towards RRS activation for clinically deteriorated patients in the clinical units of King Abdul-Aziz Hospital. Methods:A descriptive cross-sectional research design was utilised in the study, and 144 nurses working in the medical and surgical units of King Abdul-Aziz Hospital were recruited to participate using a convenient non-probability sampling technique. Results:The study’s findings reported that nurses have a positive attitude towards RRS benefits(Mean=3.70;SD=0.70).Their overall attitude towards RRS activation among clinically deteriorated patients is still low positive(Mean=2.71;SD=0.61).The nurses’attitudes towards RRS benefits significantly differ among nationalities and the clinical area/unit where they were assigned, with a P-value of 0.0194 and 0.000,respectively.Attitudes towards RRS barriers significantly differ among nationality(P-value=0.0037),education level(P-value=0.0032),area of assignment(P-value=0.020),and whether they have a good understanding of abnormal observations(P-value=0.0122).Regarding the nurses’attitude towards management belief, the significant result is only with the clinical area/unit of assignment with a P-value of 0.000.Conclusion:The current study found a low positive attitude towards RRS activation among ward nurses, especially given that monitoring vital signs is critical to their job.Nurses may fear being perceived as clinically inept for redundant activations caused by poor quality, but their attitude towards activating the RRS in clinical deterioration is still largely negative. This is because most RRSs rely on ward nurses to recognise clinical deterioration and manually alert responders through phone calls, hospital communication systems,or face-to-face communication. 展开更多

The design of diabetes inpatient educational preparation should be based on the needs of the nurses involved in terms of skills in this area. The objective of this qualitative study is to identify the preparatory needs of nurses working in the medical and surgical units of a Lebanese hospital in terms of Survival Skills Education for Hospitalized Diabetic Patients (SSEHDP). Method: The focus group method is used for data collection using a semi-structured interview guide. The needs expressed by the thirty-two participating nurses were classified into categories of the competency framework for providing self-management education to diabetic patients proposed by the American Diabetes Association. Results: By focusing on the themes of an SSEHDP, a list of preparatory needs was drawn up. The needs identified and analyzed are then translated into general and specific learning objectives for educational preparation. Conclusion: The needs analysis is only the first step in a work that will ideally continue into the implementation and eventual evaluation of an educational program developed to help nurses acquire skills in the education of diabetic patients. 展开更多

Objective:The present study aimed to address the care of psychiatric patients and its impact on nurses’behavior in Saudi Arabia. Methods:A cross-sectional quantitative questionnaire-based study was conducted. This study was carried out in various government hospitals across different regions of Saudi Arabia. Results:A total of 73 nurses participated in the study, with male nurses comprising the majority(61.6%)compared to females.Being a young nurse or with few years of work experience is linked with more predilection towards preventive behaviour and/or physical activity.A significant mean difference was observed, indicating higher scores for preventive behavior among females(female 14.93±5.82 vs.male 11.56±5.48,P=0.015).The Bonferroni post hoc multiple comparisons did not reveal any statistical significance for single vs.married(P=0.618),single vs.divorced(P=0.223),and married vs.divorced(P=0.020).Conclusion:The study results demonstrated a significant impact of caring for psychiatric patients on nurses’behavior. This is concerning because psychological and mental health strain has been shown to contribute to unhealthy lifestyle habits, such as physical inactivity and sleep deprivation, which,in turn, can contribute to the increasing incidence and prevalence of chronic diseases.Healthcare interventions targeting psychiatric and mental health nurses should be designed and examined to emphasize the importance of healthy lifestyle choices and an active lifestyle. 展开更多

Objective: To explore the effectiveness of applying patient simulators combined with Internet Plus scenario simulation teaching models on intravenous (IV) infusion nursing education, and to provide scientific evidence for the implementation of advanced teaching models in future nursing education. Methods: Enrolled 60 nurses who took the IV infusion therapy training program in our hospital from January 2022 to December 2023 for research. 30 nurses who were trained in traditional teaching models from January to December 2022 were selected as the control group, and 30 nurses who were trained with simulation-based teaching models with methods including simulated patients, internet, online meetings which can be replayed and scenario simulation, etc. from January to December 2023 were selected as the experimental group. Evaluated the learning outcomes based on the Competency Inventory for Nursing Students (CINS), Problem-Solving Inventory (PSI), comprehensive learning ability, scientific research ability, and proficiency in the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of IV infusion therapy. Nursing quality, the incidence of IV infusion therapy complications and nurse satisfaction with different teaching models were also measured. Results: The scientific research ability, PSI scores, CINS scores, and comprehensive learning ability of the experimental group were better than those of the control group (P 0.05), and their assessment results of practical skills, nursing quality of IV infusion therapy during training, and satisfaction with teaching models were all better than those of the control group with statistical significance (P < 0.05). The incidence of IV infusion therapy complications in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group, indicating statistical significance (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Teaching models based on patient simulators combined with Internet Plus scenario simulation enable nursing students to learn more directly and practice at any time and in any place, and can improve their proficiency in IV infusion theoretical knowledge and skills (e.g. PICC catheterization), core competencies, problem-solving ability, comprehensive learning ability, scientific research ability and the ability to deal with complicated cases. Also, it helps provide high-quality nursing education, improve the nursing quality of IV therapy, reduce the incidence of related complications, and ensure the safety of patients with IV therapy. 展开更多

Background: Nurses are expected by their international code of ethics to advocate for patients to enhance safety and quality care. However, there is a limited understanding regarding the implications of specific patient advocacy outcomes experienced by nurses who advocate for patients in the hospital context. Purpose: This study explored the implications of patient advocacy outcomes experienced among practicing nurses in the hospital context. Methods: A qualitative, descriptive study design was utilized. Data was collected through purposive sampling and an in-depth semi-structured interview of 25 Registered Nurses in an acute care hospital. An inductive qualitative content analysis method was used, and the SRQR guidelines for reporting qualitative studies were followed. Results: This study revealed that nurses who succeeded in advocating for patients experienced feelings of happiness, increased confidence levels, increased work output, and job satisfaction. However, nurses who failed to succeed in advocating for patients experienced physical, emotional, and psychological consequences, which contributed negatively to the quality of patient care. Therapeutic communication and nurses’ commitment to intervene for patients emerged as vital qualities and skills required to succeed in the patient advocacy process. Conclusions: This study showed that patient advocacy has advantages. However, when nurses fail to succeed in their attempt to advocate for patients in clinical practice, the outcomes can negatively affect their own well-being and the quality of patient care delivery. These study results could promote awareness and help nurses to develop strategies for improving patient advocacy activities based on their experiences. Additionally, nurses can seek help, including psychological counseling, when necessary to enhance their optimal well-being as they care for their patients. Nursing educational institutions and hospital managers can support, train, and equip nurses with the required skills for enhancing positive advocacy outcomes. . 展开更多

Background: Improvement of patient care in any hospital depends primarily on the quality of nursing care. Nursing care is enhanced by the nursing process, which outlines the nursing activities to be provided for a patient. Methods and Materials: A cross sectional design employing quantitative methods was conducted in Njombe RRH in December 2021. Quantitative data were collected from nurses and midwives from all wards by simple random sampling techniques using a sample-size calculator. SPSS version 26.0 was used to analyse data whereby a p-value of 0.05 was considered a decision mark for the significance of the result;Chi-square and Logistic regression respectively were used to find out the association and its strength between variables. Result: Majority of the respondents, 41 (85.4%), had inadequate knowledge and 33 (68.8%) found them people with a negative attitude to the nursing process. Significantly, there is an association between knowledge and clinical utilization (AOR 2.24;95% CI: 1.6 - 2.5;P 0.04), attitude and clinical utilization (AOR 4.32;95% CI: 1.8 - 3.7;P Conclusion: A knowledge gap in relation to the utilization of the nursing process and a negative attitude were noted to be associated significantly with the utilization of the nursing process among nurses and midwives. It is recommended on-job training, supportive supervision, and Value Clarification and Attitude Transformation (VCAT) are the best interventions to address the knowledge gap and negative attitudes respectively. 展开更多

Objectives:A good patient safety culture(PSC)is linked to a reduced risk of patient problems and minimal undesirable occurrences. This study investigated the PSC levels from nurses'perspectives during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods:A descriptive cross-sectional design was applied. The Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture(HSOPSC)questionnaire was administered to 315 nurses working at 2 major hospitals in Jeddah,Saudi Arabia. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics,a t-test,and a one-way ANOVA test. The statistical significance of the correlation was determined at the 0.05 level. Results:PSC was rated as medium overall according to the nurses, with a weighted mean of 2.88–0.76 and a relative weight of 57.57%.In addition, all PSC composites were rated from medium to high, except organizational learning, which was rated low.The correlation between sociodemographic variables as well as PSC levels was investigated using the t-test and one-way ANOVA test. The association is statistically significant when P≤0.05.The findings revealed a statistically significant correlation between nurse nationality(t=-4.399,P=0.000),age(F=7.917,P=0.000),experience in years(F=3.760,P=0.024),and hospital(t=-0.401,P=0.689).Conclusions:The nurses in this study had a medium overall PSC level, and all PSC composites ranged from a medium to a high level, except organizational learning, which had a low level. In addition, the findings showed that there is a significant relationship between PSC levels, nurses'nationalities, experience in years, and the hospital itself. 展开更多

Objective:To study the clinical effect of targeted infusion safety nursing during infusion of inpatients with cancer. Methods:From January 1,2020,to January 1,2023,a total of 6,614 infusion patients were treated in The First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, and 300 inpatients with cancer were selected as the research objects and randomly divided into the observation group and the control group, with 150 patients in each group. The control group received routine infusion nursing, and the observation group received targeted infusion safety nursing. The targeted infusion safety nursing was judged by comparing the nursing quality assessment, incidence of adverse events, patient compliance, and patients’mastery of infusion knowledge between the two groups.clinical effect. Results:After the targeted infusion safety nursing was given to the patients in the observation group, the patients in this group recognized the nursing quality, and the statistical score was higher than that in the control group;the incidence of adverse events in the observation group was lower than that in the control group. The compliance of the observation group was higher than that of the control group. The mastery of health knowledge in the observation group was also higher than that in the control group and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.02).Conclusion:After implementing targeted infusion safety nursing for inpatients with cancer,it can effectively prevent the occurrence of adverse events, improve patient compliance, and increase the mastery of relevant knowledge of patients. 展开更多
