Modelling and simulation of projectile flight is at the core of ballistic computer software and is essential to the study of performance of rifles and projectiles in various engagement conditions.An effective and representative numerical model of projectile flight requires a relatively good approximation of the aerodynamics.The aerodynamic coefficients of the projectile model should be described as a series of piecewise polynomial functions of the Mach number that ideally meet the following conditions:they are continuous,differentiable at least once,and have a relatively low degree.The paper provides the steps needed to generate such piecewise polynomial functions using readily available tools,and then compares Piecewise Cubic Hermite Interpolating Polynomial(PCHIP),cubic splines,and piecewise linear functions,and their variant,as potential curve fitting methods to approximate the aerodynamics of a generic small arms projectile.A key contribution of the paper is the application of PCHIP to the approximation of projectile aerodynamics,and its evaluation against a set of criteria.Finally,the paper provides a baseline assessment of the impact of the polynomial functions on flight trajectory predictions obtained with 6-degree-of-freedom simulations of a generic projectile. 展开更多

Traditionally, extra binary variables are demanded to formulate a fuzzy nonlinear programming(FNLP) problem with piecewise linear membership functions(PLMFs). However, this kind of methodology usually suffers increasing computational burden associated with formulation and solution, particularly in the face of complex PLMFs. Motivated by these challenges, this contribution introduces a novel approach free of additional binary variables to formulate FNLP with complex PLMFs, leading to superior performance in reducing computational complexity as well as simplifying formulation. A depth discussion about the approach is conducted in this paper, along with a numerical case study to demonstrate its potential benefits. 展开更多

This paper investigates the chaos synchronisation between two coupled chaotic Chua's circuits. The sufficient condition presented by linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) of global asymptotic synchronisation is attained based on piecewise quadratic Lyapunov functions. First, we obtain the piecewise linear differential inclusions (pwLDIs) model of synchronisation error dynamics, then we design a switching (piecewise-linear) feedback control law to stabilise it based on the piecewise quadratic Laypunov functions. The T-S fuzzy system is transformed to an equivalent switching fuzzy system. Consequently, the delay-dependent stabilization criteria are derived for the switching fuzzy system based on the piecewise Lyapunov function. The proposed conditions are given in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The interactions among the fuzzy subsystems are considered in each subregion, and accordingly the proposed conditions are less conservative than the previous results. Since only a set of LMIs is involved, the controller design is quite simple and numerically tractable. Finally, a design example is given to show the validity of the proposed method. 展开更多

Based on a piecewise quadratic lyapunov function (PQLF), this paper presents stochastic stability analysis and synthesis methods for ItO and discrete T-S fuzzy bilinear stochastic systems. Two improved stochastic stability conditions have been established in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). It is shown that the stability in the mean square for T-S fuzzy bilinear stochastic systems can be established if a PQLF can be constructed. Considering the established stability criterion, the controller can be designed by solving a set of (LMIs), and the closed loop system is asymptotically stable in the mean square. Two illustrative examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the results proposed in this paper. 展开更多

The paper presents an improved plane layout for stabilizing piles based on a proposed piecewise function expression for the irregular driving force. Based on the specific morphological characteristics of a highway landslide, the piecewise function is used to calculate the irregular driving force by dividing the landslide into several sub-areas.Furthermore, the reasonable layout range and pile spacing can be obtained based on the piecewise function expression of the irregular driving force and on relevant research results of the plane layout for stabilizing piles. Therefore, an improved plane layout of stabilizing piles is presented in consideration of a piecewise function expression of the irregular driving force. A highway landslide located in eastern Guizhou Province, China, is analyzed as a case study using the proposed method. The results demonstrate that the theory presented in this paper provides improved economic benefits and can reduce the requirednumber of stabilizing piles by 28.6% compared with the conventional plane layout scheme. 展开更多

To begin with, the T-S fuzzy system is transformed to an equivalent switching fuzzy system. Then, based on the piecewise Lyapunov function and matrix decoupling technique, a new delay-dependent non-fragile H∞ filtering method is proposed for the switching fuzzy system. The proposed condition is less conservative than the previous results. Since only a set of LMIs is involved, the filter parameters can be solved directly. It has been shown that piecewise quadratic Lyapunov functions are less conservative than the global quadratic Lyapunov functions. The piecewise functions can get higher and higher approximation accuracy as required with the increase of parameter d. The global convergence proof of TPWSSVMd is given with the rough set theory. TPWSSVMd can efficiently handle large scale and high dimensional problems. Based on a piecewise singular Lyapunov function combined with S-procedure,Projection lemma and some matrix inequality convexifying techniques,sufficient conditions in terms of linear matrix inequalities are given for the existence of an output-feedback controller for the discrete-time piecewiseaffine singular systems with a prescribed H∞disturbance attenuation level,and the H2norm is smaller than a given positive number. It is shown that the controller gains can be obtained by solving a family of LMIs parameterized by one or two scalar variables. The numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed design methods. 展开更多
