Ureteral Ewing’s sarcoma in an elderly woman: A case report

BACKGROUND Ewing’s sarcoma(ES)is regarded as a skeletal tumor,with few instances of extraskeletal ES.A primary ES in the ureter is extremely rare.CASE SUMMARY We report the case of a 69-year-old woman who presented with intermittent flank pain and hematuria and was found to have a mass in the left ureter.Pathology of the excised mass indicated ES.The clinical treatment and pathologic characteristics in this case,and a review of the literature describing ES in the urinary system,are presented.CONCLUSION Due to the rarity and malignancy of ES in ureter,early diagnosis and prompt surgical treatment are critical.

There is no doubt that The French Lieutenant＇s Woman, written by John Fowles, should be among the list of the most controversial, outstanding and distinguished postmodern literary works in 1970s. As a writer greatly influenced by Existentialism, Fowles endows the book tremendous vitality, that is, the vigor of philosophy, which differentiates the work from the other common postmodern ones. Lament of a Northwestern Woman(Qin Fu Yin),composed by Wei Zhuang after the Huangchao uprising,is a long poem that showcases the sufferings of the civilians and embodies the people’s character of the poem,which is the profound empathy and compassion of the poet towards the civilians’plight.The poem was written during the reign of Emperor Xizong of the Tang Dynasty in the year Gengmao(883 AD).2023 is also the year Gengmao,so this poem has existed for a remarkable 1140 years.For over a millennium,this long poem remained submerged in history until the opening of the Dunhuang Grottoes at the turn of the 20th century.The deep compassion and commiseration towards the underprivileged masses conveyed in this long poem are reminiscent of Du Fu’s renowned“Three Poems of Separation.”Moreover,it is widely believed that this poem foretells the decline of the Tang Dynasty.

Paratextual epigraph——Expansion of Time and Space in The French Lieutenant's Woman

This paper sets out to analyze the artistic functions and effects of paratextual epigraph in The French Lieutenant's Woman. Instead of only enumerating from the structural perspective, the author illustrated the function of the paratextual epigraph with due attention to the connection between epigraph and the artistic techniques as well as the theme of the novel. It was found that paratextual epigraph bears four artistic functions: foreshadowing, creating satire, and creating metaphor. It is suggested that further study could foreground the importance of paratextual epigraph, in order to have a better understanding of the novel.

针对国内现有无损探伤方法无法检测固体推进剂微观缺陷的情况,引入光致正电子湮灭分析方法,即PIPA(Photon Induced Positron Annihilation)。该方法利用加速器产生的高能光子引发的正电子与固体推进剂作用来检测其缺陷,能在固体推进剂宏观缺陷出现前检测出其微观结构的变化。介绍了PIPA原理,并通过试验讨论了温度、拉伸速率及推进剂的力学性能等因素对利用PIPA进行固体推进剂探伤结果的影响,所得结论与固体推进剂的常规测试具有一致性,证明了PIPA用于固体推进剂无损探伤的可行性。

乙型肝炎病毒表面抗原阳性孕妇血清前S1抗原检测的临床意义

目的分析乙型肝炎病毒表面抗原（HBsAg）阳性孕妇血清前S1抗原感染状态与胎儿官内感染的关系。方法收集137例HBsAg阳性孕妇的血清与脐血，HBeAg是否阳性分为HBeAg阳性孕妇血清组和HBeAg阴性孕妇血清组，采用ELISA和PCR方法对两组标本进行preS1与HBVDNA检测。结果HBeAg阳性孕妇血清组preS1检出率为88．5％，明显高于HBeAg阴性孕妇血清组34．1％（P〈0．01）；HBeAg阳性孕妇血清组HBVDNA检出率为96．1％，明显高于HBeAg阴性孕妇血清组25．9％（P〈0．01）；HBeAg阳性孕妇脐血HBVDNA检出率为46．2％，明显高于HBeAg阴性孕妇组11．8％（P〈0．01）；preS1在HBVDNA阳性组中的检出率为88．8％，明显高于HBVDNA阴性组23．1％（P〈0．01）。结论育龄妇女血清乙肝病毒preSl的常规检测，有利于乙肝病毒感染的早期诊断与治疗，可作为母婴垂直传播的一项预防措施。

Relationship between Cognition and Activities of Daily Living in Elderly Women with Mild Cognitive Impairment in Japan

Purpose: This study aims to examine the relationship between cognition and ADL in elderly women with MIC. Methods: Cognitive function was assessed using a 4-item instrument screening for dementia. Each item was scaled from 1 to 4. The Katz Index was used to Participants (N = 680) were asked to return the completed questionnaire in the sealed envelope provided. The study received approval from the human subject’s ethics committee at Osaka University. Results and Conclusion: Participants’ mean age was 78.2 ± 6.5 years old. The age range of participants was 65 to 97 years old. Associations were not statistically significant between cognitive function and family structure. However, associations were significant for ADL items involving excretory failure (OR = 3.5, p = 0.000 in 2004, OR = 2.9, p = 0.000 in 2005;P < 0.05) using a logistic regression analysis adjusted for age. Therefore, we recommend that nurses work to educate the public about treatment-adjusted dementia in the community, teaching family members or caretakers to observe the ADL of the elderly, being watchful for unusual excretory habits, extra clothes, or the smell of elderly persons’ dirty clothing.

Set in America in the 1960s, the novel is woven by the romantic story of the two middle-aged man and woman after they countered and gathered together for four days. Though simple in plot, it really deserves detailed interpretation and appreciation. This paper will mainly discuss Kincaid＇s cultural values reflected not only in the romance between his lover and him, but also in his attitudes towards women＇s rights.

Debt in the Quebecois Novels of the 1960-1980

This article will study the Quebecois novels of the 1960-1980＇s and especially the feeling of debt that women had because of the Christian Bible that condemned women as being the sinful Eve responsable for the Fall of Humanity. These novelists from Quebec, Marie-Claire Blais, Anne Hebert, and Gabrielle Roy, show that their female characters are unable to let go of this myth of the incarnation in their bodies of the temptations leading to Sin. Consequently, these heroines show a violent disgust for their bodies, and for all sexual manifestations （puberty, pregnancey, child-birth） that they describe very crudely. They reject their bodies and live in shame of their bodies. For this reason, they dress with modesty and have a neurotic fear of the Sin of the Flesh. This Sin makes them want to withdraw from the image of the temptress Eve and to identify themselves to Mary, the sublimated woman. For Quebec novelist Gabrielle Roy, the female debt cannot be repaid by a sublimation of women to Mary, but by a sublimation of women＇s own talents. Gabrielle Roy sees her late birth as a debt contracted towards her very impoverished and old parents. Fortunately, in her adolescence, she rebels against this unfair contract that her family and especially her mother imposes on her and that wrongs her because it forces her to follow the career path of a school teacher to repay the debts of her family. She withdraws from this debt by leaving for France and following the career path of a writer. She will redeem the debt of her family by writing her autobiography which is a monument in sublimation of her mother
