AIM: To analytically assess the effect of pupil size upon the refractive power distributions of different designs of multifocal contact lenses.METHODS: Two multifocal contact lenses of center-near design and one multifocal contact lens of center-distance design were used in this study. Their power profiles were measured using the NIMO TR1504 device (LAMBDA-X, Belgium). Based on their power profiles, the power distribution was assessed as a function of pupil size. For the high addition lenses, the resulting refractive power as a function of viewing distance (far, intermediate, and near) and pupil size was also analyzed.RESULTS: The power distribution of the lenses was affected by pupil size differently. One of the lenses showed a significant spread in refractive power distribution, from about ?3 D to 0 D. Generally, the power distribution of the lenses expanded as the pupil diameter became greater. The surface of the lens dedicated for each distance varied substantially with the design of the lens.CONCLUSION: In an experimental basis, our results show how the lenses power distribution is affected by the pupil size and underlined the necessity of careful evaluation of the patient’s visual needs and the optical properties of a multifocal contact lens for achieving the optimal visual outcome. 展开更多

The simulations were carried out by means of a code,HELIC. They were carried out by taking into account different inhomogeneous radial density profiles and for a wide range of plasma densities, from 10^(11) cm^(-3) to 10^(13) cm^(-3). The magnetic field was 200, 400, 600 and 1000 G. A three-parameter function was used for generating various density profiles with different volume gradients, edge gradients and density widths. The density profile had a large effect on the efficient Trivelpiece–Gould(TG) and helicon mode excitation and antenna coupling to the plasma. The fraction of power deposition via the TG mode was extremely dependent on the plasma density near the plasma boundary. Interestingly, the obtained efficient parallel helicon wavelength was close to the anticipated value for Gaussian radial density profile.Power deposition was considerably asymmetric when the n/B_0 ratio was more than a specific value for a determined density width. The longitudinal power absorption was symmetric at approximately n_0 =10^(11) cm^(-3), irrespective of the magnetic field supposed. The asymmetry became more pronounced when the plasma density was 10^(12) cm^(-3). The ratio of density width to the magnetic field was an important parameter in the power coupling. At high magnetic fields, the maximum of the power absorption was reached at higher plasma density widths. There was at least one combination of the plasma density, magnetic field and density width for which the RF power deposition at both side of the tube reached its maximum value. 展开更多

This paper develops a Cyclic Prefix(CP)based joint Maximum-Likelihood(ML)estima-tion algorithm of Carrier Frequency Offset(CFO)and Power Delay Profile(PDP)for Multi-InputMulti-Output Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(MIMO-OFDM)systems.However,theexact solution of the joint ML estimation is very complex since it needs a search over amulti-dimensional domain. Thus a simplified method is proposed to estimate the CFO and the PDPiteratively via the alternating-projection method which could induce the multidimensional searchproblem to a sequence of simple one-dimensional searches.Simulations show that the proposed algo-rithm is more accurate and robust than the existing algorithms. 展开更多

This report consists of two main research activities : The first one is the study of MHD ballooning stability of tokamak plasmas, the second is about some fundamental aspect in the ECR wave propagation and power deposition. Main results are summarized here in three parts briefly. In the first part, the instabilities of tokamak plasma in the negative shear regime is studied and characteristics of the unstable mode is described, the scaling law of the growth rate over plasma parameters is given. In the second part, by using the restrict Solov'ev configuration, the correctness of the usual s,α model in ballooning mode theory is analyzed. In the third part, the deposition of the power density of the ECR ordinary wave in the HL-2A plasma is calculated. 展开更多

A more accurate correlated multiple input and multiple output (MIMO) channel model for IEEE 802.16n is presented. On one hand, this MIMO channel model can obtain more precise antenna correlation, which is a key character for MIMO channel and important for the research of IEEE 802.16n and MIMO technologies. On the other hand, it maintains a low complexity of simulation. 展开更多

With the increased demand for unmanned driving technology and big-data transmission between vehicles,millimeter-wave(mmWave)technology,due to its characteristics of large bandwidth and low latency,is considered to be the key technology in future vehicular communication systems.Different from traditional cellular communication, the vehicular communication environment has the characteristics of long distance and high moving speed. However, the existing communication channel tests mostly select low-speed and small-range communication scenarios for testing. The test results are insufficient to provide good data support for the existing vehicular communication research;therefore,in this paper,we carry out a large number of channel measurements in mmWave vehicle-toinfrastructure(V2I)long-distance communication scenarios in the 41 GHz band.We study the received signal strength(RSS)in detail and find that the vibration features of RSS can be best modeled by the modified two-path model considering road roughness.Based on the obtained RSS,a novel close-in(CI)model considering the effect of the transmitter(TX)and receiver(RX)antenna heights(CI-TRH model)is developed. As for the channel characteristics, the distribution of the root-mean-square(RMS)delay spread is analyzed. We also extend the twosection exponential power delay profile(PDP)model to a more general form so that the distance-dependent features of the mmWave channel can be better modeled.Furthermore, the variation in both RMS delay spread and PDP shape parameters with TX-RX distance is analyzed.Analysis results show that TX and RX antenna heights have an effect on large-scale fading. Our modified two-path model,CI-TRH model, and two-section exponential PDP model are proved to be effective. 展开更多

In order to expand the application range of the classic Topographic Index model(TOPMODEL) and develop a more appropriate submodel of hydrological processes for use in the land surface model, two types of TOPMODEL are investigated, one with saturated hydraulic conductivity change with depth obeying exponential law(classical e-TOPMODEL or e-TOPMODEL for short) and the other obeying general power law(general p-TOPMODEL or p-TOPMODEL for short). Using observation date in the Suomo River catchment located in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the sensitivity study of the p-TOPMODEL was conducted and the simulated results from the model were examined and evaluated first, and then the results were compared with the results from the e-TOPMODEL to find the similarities and differences between the two types of models. The main conclusions obtained from the above studies are(1) topographic index and its distribution derived from the p-TOPPMODEL for the Suomo Basin are sensitive to changes of parameter n and m;(2) changes of n and m have impacts on the simulation results of various hydrological components(such as daily runoff, monthly averaged runoff, monthly averaged surface runoff and subsurface runoff), but have the weaker impacts on forty-year averaged total runoff; and(3) for the same value of m, the simulated results of e-TOPMODEL display higher surface runoff and lower subsurface runoff than the general p-TOPMODEL does but multi-year averaged total runoffs produced from the two types of TOPMODEL show insignificant difference. The differences between the two types of models indicate that it is necessary to pay close attention to correct selection from different hydrological models for use in land surface model development. The result mentioned above is useful to provide some referential information for the model selection. 展开更多
