Model of the Rake Receiver for CDMA2000 Reverse Link

To improve performance of receiver, the pilot channel is added to reverse channels of CDMA2000 In this paper, the structure of reverse channels is outlined and the principle of Rake receiver is discussed, then the model of the Rake receiver is set up and some computer simulations are performed.

Constrained least squares algorithm for channel vector estimation in 2-D RAKE receiver

Based on the fact that the variation of tile direction of arrival (DOA) isslower than that of the channel fading, the steering vector of the desired signal is estimatedfirstly using a subspace decomposition method and then a constrained condition is configured.Traffic signals are further employed to estimate the channel vector based on the constrained leastsquares criterion. We use the iterative least squares with projection (ILSP) algorithm initializedby the pilot to get the estimation. The accuracy of channel estimation and symbol detection can beprogressively increased through the iteration procedure of the ILSP algorithm. Simulation resultsdemonstrate that the proposed algorithm improves the system performance effectively compared withthe conventional 2-D RAKE receiver.

A RESEARCH OF UWB RAKE RECEIVER BASED ON NOVEL RLS ADAPTIVE ALGORITHM

A modified RAKE receiver based on novel Recursive Least Squares （RLS） adaptive algorithm is proposed. The receiver uses L-fingered correlators, which are composed of RLS adaptive filters, to enhance the performance of multipath receiving. It can also track the amplitude of the received signal to form a real-time amplitude estimation which is correlated with the power of excess delay bin. The simulation results based on the IEEE UltraWide Band （UWB） channel models （CMI to CM4） show that the novel RLS algorithm can alter the attenuation estimation with the finger＇s power delay profile, and RAKE receiver with few fingers can be employed to get high performance.

Hybrid chaotic sequence for QS-CDMA system with RAKE receiver

A class of the hybrid chaotic sequences is presented. The generator of the sequences is given and realized by the digital method. The hybrid chaotic sequences exhibit good random properties that are very important for the performance of QS-CDMA system with RAKE receiver. The performance of the system is analyzed when the hybrid chaotic sequences are used as spreading codes in a QS-CDMA system with RAKE receiver and compared with those obtained for m-se-quences and logistic sequences. The results show that the hybrid chaotic sequences are a class of very promising spreading codes for QS-CDMA system.

Performance of Multicarrier CDMA Rake System over Rayleigh Fading Channel

Based on the theory of multicarrier(MC) technique and the Rake receiver, a multicarrier DS-CDMA Rake system is proposed, where a data sequence multiplied by a spreading sequence modulates multiple carriers. The receiver provides a Rake for each subcarrier, and the outputs of the Rakes are combined by a maximal-ratio combiner. The average probability of error of the system is derived from an uncorrelated subcarrier and frequency-selective fading channel model. The system performances are evaluated over Rayleigh fading channel with an exponential multipath intensity profile(MIP) and with a rectangular MIP, respectively, when multipath interference is present. It is found that this kind of model has larger superiority in an exponential MIP than in a rectangular MIP.

ANALYSIS OF A CUMULANT-BASED 2D-RAKE RECEIVER FOR CDMA SYSTEM OVER FREQUENCY-SELECTIVE FADING CHANNELS

The conventional 2D Rake receivers for code division multiple access (CDMA) system over frequency selective fading channels are generally based on the second order statistics while assuming perfect array conditions. However, the sensor response, location uncertainty, and the use of sample statistics can severely degrade the performance of second order statistics processing. And in practical application, it is impossible to calibrate the array frequently. In this paper a cumulant based 2D Rake receiver for synchronous CDMA system with decorrelator is presented. Decorrelating is a multi user detection approach that not only provides a fundamental solution to the mutual interference problem in CDMA communications but also makes it convenient for the decoupled signal to be processed spatially and temporally. High order signal processing has some inherent advantages over that of second order. Employing second order statistics it is impossible to estimate source steering vector blindly, while employing higher than second order cumulants, this purpose can be achieved. The performance analysis shows that employing cumulant based signal processing technique the proposed 2D Rake receiver is blind and demonstrates excellent performance.

SOLSM Channel Estimation for W CDMA

Estimation of Rayleigh fading channels using time multiplexed pilot symbols in W CDMA (FDD) is considered. Method of interpolation on a second order curve using the instantaneous channel estimation of two contiguous slots based on least square method (SOLSM) is presented. It is demonstrated by computer simulations that the channel distortion on data symbols in a slot can be estimated effectively compared to the method using simple linear interpolation, and the performance of the Rake combiner is improved effectively especially in fast moving cases.

Performance Analysis of Fixed-Point Simulations on cdma2000-1x Downlink

Based on the physical layer standard of cdma2000, the performance analysis of fixed point simulations is presented in this paper on cdma2000 1x downlink. The effects of quantization and finite wordlength, which have typically been assumed negligible in floating point simulations, become significant for fixed point simulations. The complete fixed point simulation platform for cdma2000 1x downlink is developed by EDA tool - COSSAP. The structure and performance of the key component in cdma2000 systems, the RAKE receiver, are discussed in details. Comparisons of results between floating point and fixed point simulations lead to some important conclusions, which provide certain references for the implementation of practical systems.

Improved BLAST for wireless communications

Bell layered space-time architecture （BLAST） is a multi-antenna communication structure with high spectrum efficiency, and it has found wide applications in LANs and WLANs. However, its performance is much poorer than those of other space-time coding approaches. In order to improve its performance, an improved BLAST based on RAKE receiving is investigated. The new system introduces orthogonal spreading sequences （OSS） into the transmitter while retains the basic structure of BLAST. The proposed receiver suppresses interferences from other antennas by the orthogonality contained in the received signals, and extracts information from each receiving antenna by using RAKE receiving principle to construct efficient statistic decision. Simulation results show that the improved system performs well over both frequency-fiat and frequency-selective fading channels.

Study on Cell Error Rate of a Satellite ATM System Based on CDMA

In this paper, the cell error rate (CER) of a CDMA-based satellite ATM system is analyzed. Two fading models, i.e. the partial fading model and the total fading model are presented according to multi-path propagation fading and shadow effect. Based on the total shadow model, the relation of CER vs. the number of subscribers at various elevations under 2D-RAKE receiving and non-diversity receiving is got. The impact on cell error rate with pseudo noise (PN) code length is also considered. The result that the maximum likelihood combination of multi-path signal would not improve the system performance when multiple access interference (MAI) is small, on the contrary the performance may be even worse is abtained.

HYBRID INTERFERENCE CANCELLATION SCHEME FOR BLIND MULTIUSER DETECTION IN MULTIPATH FADING CHANNELS

This paper introduces and analyzes a detection scheme for adaptive suppression of Multiuser Access Interference (MAI) and MultiPath Distortion (MPD) for mobile station of DS/CDMA system. The proposed detection scheme may amount to a RAKE receiver structure,wherein each branch is considered as a linear multiuser filter designed under a Linear Constrained Minimum Variance (LCMV) optimization strategy to suppress MAI, followed by a proper combining rule to suppress MPD. The adaptive blind multiuser detecting and optimum combining of the proposed receiver are realized, based on the Least-Mean-Square (LMS) algorithm and an adaptive vector tracking algorithm respectively. Finally, the feasibility of the above two algorithms is proved by the numerical results provided by computer simulation.

A New UWB Receiver in the Indoor Multipath Environment

In the literatures about Ultra Wide Band （UWB） to date, the receiver structure is mainly based on Rake receiver. But due to the wave distortion caused by overlapped between the received and the sent pulses, a lot of energy in demodulator will be lost. In this paper, a new receiver is developed by adopting maximum likelihood algorithm, in which RAKE structure is not needed and can also be implemented easily. The simulation showed that this method has BER advantage over the traditional RAKE receiver with maximal ratio combining at high SNR, and over the autocorrelation receiver as well.

A Study of the Simulation Platform of WCDMA

In this paper, we present a new simulation platform of 3G (the third-generation mobile communication). Combined with the concept of Software Defined Radio (SDR) and complied with the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) proposal, first, we build up a general structure platform of the downlink physical layer based on 3G WCDMA (FDD) in COSSAP software package, then study such key technology of 3G as turbo encoders and decoders, RAKE receivers. The simulation result is similar to relevant documents. As a result, it could be applied as a basic platform to do further research on the key technology in SDR field.
