Some side information is generated for each video bitstream in advance, while streaming such side information is exploited by a greedy algorithm to optimally drop partitions in a rate-distortion optimized way. Quality sealability is supported by adopting data partition instead of whole frame as the dropping unit. Simulation resuhs show that the proposed scheme achieves a great gain in the reconstructed video quality over two typical frame dropping schemes, with the help of the fine granularity in dropping unit as well as rate-distortion optimization.展开更多
Modern diesel passenger cars already fulfill high demands regarding the reduction in NOx emissions through complex exhaust aftertreatment systems.With the consideration of real driving emissions,the reduction in NOx e...Modern diesel passenger cars already fulfill high demands regarding the reduction in NOx emissions through complex exhaust aftertreatment systems.With the consideration of real driving emissions,the reduction in NOx emissions in high transient engine operation becomes even more challenging.Apart from increasing the complexity of exhaust aftertreatment systems,internal engine measures play a major role.The approach to reducing NOx emissions described in this paper uses the precise control of the combustion.For this purpose,the method of digital combustion rate shaping control is applied,which allows the realization of a predefined combustion by automatically adapting the injection profile during operation.Within this work,this controller is extended in order to control the predefined combustion trace based on target NOx values.First,the working principal of the state-of-the-art digital combusting rate shaping controller is explained.In the next step,the design and strategy of the extended control approach are explained and validated.Finally,its potential to reduce engine-out NOx emissions during transient driving situations is evaluated based on simulations of the WLTC.It is shown that the control concept fulfills the requirements and is able to effectively reduce high NOx peaks during transient operation.展开更多

During thermal cycling, heatin...Different fragments of a hot-rolled and homogenized Cu–Zn–Al shape memory alloy(SMA) were subjected to thermal cycling by means of a differential scanning calorimetric(DSC) device. During thermal cycling, heating was performed at the same constant rate of increasing temperature while cooling was carried out at different rates of decreasing temperature. For each cooling rate, the temperature decreased in the same thermal interval. During each cooling stage, an exothermic peak(maximum) was observed on the DSC thermogram. This peak was associated with forward martensitic transformation. The DSC thermograms were analyzed with PROTEUS software: the critical martensitic transformation start(Ms) and finish(Mf) temperatures were determined by means of integral and tangent methods, and the dissipated heat was evaluated by the area between the corresponding maximum plot and a sigmoid baseline. The effects of the increase in cooling rate, assessed from a calorimetric viewpoint, consisted in the augmentation of the exothermic peak and the delay of direct martensitic transformation. The latter had the tendency to move to lower critical transformation temperatures. The martensite plates changed in morphology by becoming more oriented and by an augmenting in surface relief, which corresponded with the increase in cooling rate as observed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and atomic force microscopy(AFM).展开更多

The encoder combines the best features of Fine Granularity Scalable (FGS) coding, framedropping coding, video redundancy coding, and human visual model. According to packet loss and available bandwidth of the network, the encoder adjust the output bit rate by jointly adapting quantization step-size instructed by human visual model, rate shaping, and periodically inserting key frame. The proposed encoder is implemented based on MPEG-4 encoder and is compared with the case of a conventional FGS algorithm. It is shown that RAVE is a very efficient robust video encoder that provides improved visual quality for the receiver and consumes equal or less network resource. Results are confirmed by subjective tests and simulation tests.展开更多
