The present study reports a new distribution site in N...The White-eared Night Heron (Gorsachius magnificus) is a Class II protected species in China. It is difficult to observe in the field and its population is small. The present study reports a new distribution site in Nanxiong County, in northern Guangdong Province, where observations of an active nest were made from 4 May to 14 July 2012, the first time consecutive observations have been made for a period of more than two months. The adults flew away from the nest at night, with a peak at 19:00-20:00 and returned in the mornings with a peak at 04:30-05:30. The peak time for feeding young was at 05:00-05:30, accounting for 26.5%of total feeding activities. No feeding occurred from 10:00 to 16:00. The results of our study of its behavior explain why the White-eared Night Heron is usually observed in the evening just before dark, or in the morning before sunrise, at least during the breeding season. There were about 67 days from hatching to fledging, longer than the fledging time of most heron species. This study is the first to cover the entire period of parental care and fills a gap in previous knowledge.展开更多
The breeding activities aimed to create a natural green cocoon variety for spring rearing with the characteristics of stable natural cocoon color,easy rearing and good silk quality.Four different lines from the excell...The breeding activities aimed to create a natural green cocoon variety for spring rearing with the characteristics of stable natural cocoon color,easy rearing and good silk quality.Four different lines from the excellent silkworm variety Jingsong×Haoyue were taken as recurrent parents,using the natural green cocoon variety G 9202 as donor parent.After other excellent parents were introduced to cross with these different lines,four new breeding materials were selected by recurrent backcross breeding.The characters of these breeding materials showed not only natural green cocoon but also excellent comprehensive traits.A naturally colored cocoon quaternary hybrid with excellent practical characters was selected based on multiple hybrids.It is suitable for spring rearing in Yangtze valley which includes Hunan Province.It was approved by Hunan Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee and designated Xiangcailu No.1 in 2016.展开更多

[ Method] By utilizing facilities including rearing chamber and rearing cage, the population of orient fruit fly was established and sustained by using the methods of artificial feeding and fruit culture, and the continuous indoor biological observation was carried out. The isolated enclosure equipped with temperature and humidity recorder was established in Dongshan area of Taihu for cultivating various species of host plants, then the living habits of orient fruit fly were observed everyday. [ Result] Through feeding and observation in lab, the living habit of adult, larva, pupa and eggs of orient fruit fly were studied; the impact of soil depth on the emergence rate of pupa were conducted, and the result indicated that when the soil layer depth increased to 40 cm, there were still adults appeared and their emergence rate was 80%. The results of indoor trend test showed that the selectivity of orient fruit fly on fruits produced in Suzhou was sequenced from high to low as follows: tangerine, dates, pomegranate, peach, orange, pear and persimmon. While the sequence of fruit tree species were tangerine, dates, pomegranate, pears and persimmons according to damage rates of orient fruit fly from high to low under field isolation rearing conditions. In the local tangerine varieties, the damage rate from high to low were Dongting manda- rin, eady tangerine, Wen orange, Huangpi, Zaohong, Liaohong. However, the difficulty of separating 4-androstene-3,17-dione (AD) from 1,4-androstadiene- 3,17-dione (ADD) restricts the application of the microbial transformation of phytosterols in the industry. A novel at- mospheric and room temperature plasma (ARTP) treatment, which employs helium as the working gas, was used to generate Mycobacterium neoaurum mutants producing large amounts of AD. After treatment of cultures with ARTP, four mutants were selected using a novel screening method with a color assay. Among the mutants, M. neoaurum ZADF-4 was considered the best candidate for industrial application. When the fermentation medium contained 15 g/L phytosterols and was cultivated on a rotary shaker at 160 r/min at 30 ~C for 7 d, (6.28+0.11) g/L of AD and (0.82+0.05) g/L of ADD were produced by the ZADF-4 mutant, compared with (4.83+0.13) g/L of AD and (2.34+0.06) g/L of ADD by the original strain, Iv~. neoaururn ZAD. Compared with ZAD, the molar yield of AD increased from 48.3% to 60.3% in the ZADF-4 mutant. This result indicates that ZADF-4 may have potential for industrial production of AD.展开更多
