Traditional Chinese medicine manipulative reduction combined with percutaneous vertebroplasty for treating type Ⅲ Kummell's disease: A case report

BACKGROUND A patient with type Ⅲ Kummell’s disease had a ruptured posterior cortex of the fractured vertebral body, which caused spinal cord compression. An open surgery was considered the best choice of operation. However, the patient and her family refused open surgery and instead demanded a minimally invasive surgical treatment such as percutaneous vertebroplasty(PVP). After preoperative discussion, we finally adopted the novel therapy of traditional Chinese medicine manipulative reduction(TCMMR) combined with PVP.CASE SUMMARY A patient with type Ⅲ Kummell’s disease exhibiting bone block-induced spinal cord compression was admitted to our hospital. She suffered from a variety of medical disorders but refused open surgery, and instead asked for PVP surgery. TCMMR, in parallel with PVP, was used to restore the height of the compressed vertebral body and reduce the symptoms of spinal cord compression by the bone block in order to strengthen the vertebral body and prevent further collapse. The surgery was very successful. The height of the compressed vertebra was restored, and the symptom of spinal cord compression by bone block was reduced successfully via TCMMR. The fractured vertebra was solidified by the PVP. The pain visual analog score declined from preoperative 7 scores to postoperative 2 scores, and the Frankel spinal cord scale increased from preoperative D degree to postoperative E degree.CONCLUSION The new method has advantages in treating patients with type Ⅲ Kummell’s disease who cannot be treated with open surgery.

Classification and reduction manipulation of fractures in Chinese traditional Mongolian osteopathy

OBJECTIVE:To explore the concept of classification and reduction manipulation of fractures in Chinese traditional Mongolian osteopathy.METHODS:Based on the linear classification of fractures in Chinese traditional Mongolian osteopathy and the practice of reduction manipulation,a dynamic classification and reduction manipulation concept of fractures was established with the use of modern biomechanical principles and methods.RESULTS:We classified the linear classification and reduction manipulation of fractures in Chinese traditional Mongolian osteopathy based on the achievement of fracture line and used the cause of the formation of the fracture line for our dynamic classification and reduction manipulation of fractures concept.CONCLUSION:The etiology of the formation of fracture lines can be used to decrease diagnostic error,increase therapeutic effects of manipulation,and further provide a new concept and method for the development of the reduction concept of fractures.

Acupuncture and cupping combined with chiropractic massage in the treatment of 36 cervical spondylosis patients

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of treatment of cervical spondylosis with acupuncture and cupping combined with chiropractic massage. Methods Thirty-six patients with cervical spondylosis were treated with acupuncture, cupping, and massage. Body acupuncture was taken as the principle, combining with balance acupuncture. Acupuncture was mainly applied at C1-C7 Jiaji with balance acupuncture at JTngtbng （颈痛） to stimulate them by needle sticking. When cupping was applied, flash cupping was applied first, then sliding-cupping, and retention cupping was applied finally. Eventually, chiropractic massage was applied. The treatment course lasted for 10 days, and the whole treatment lasted for one to three courses. Results Twenty patients were cured, 14 were improved, and ineffectiveness was seen in 2 cases. The total effective rate was 94.4%（34/36）. Conclusion The curative effect of cervical spondylosis treated with acupuncture and cupping combined with chiropractic massage was definite.
