Sacks. 1989) to explore whether a time series is modulated by a periodic process or not. Thetest is conducted by comparing the total phasor of seismicity with that produced by a random Brownian motion. The phdse angle is defined by the origin time of earthquakes relative to a reference time scale. Using this methodwe tested two hypotheses in geodynamics and earthquake prediction study. One is the hypothesis of Romanowicz( 1993 ) who proposed that the great earthquakes alternate in a predictable fashion between strike-slip and thrustingmechanisms oil a 20~30 years cycle. The other hypothesis is that the strong earthquakes in and around China havean active period of about ten years. The test obtains a negative conclusion for the former hypothesis and a positiveconclusion for the latter at the 93% confidence level.展开更多

The workshop is based on a set of theoretical concepts taken from: psychology, play therapy, and literacy theory which have been blended together to form a set of teaching approaches and lesson plan ideas that can be used in Literacy/English classes. The paper will also discuss the value of using "Story Sacks" to develop and raise levels of comprehension and understanding in extensive reading and reading programs. The application of "Soft Toy Theory" could also provide a positive social-psychological affect on the students. It is designed to creating bonding between teacher and student and student and student and to raise levels of self-esteem and enable the teachers to be able to access the thoughts and feelings of a child or young adu/t which can often be hard to discern from traditional direct question and answer sessions. "Soft Toy Theory" is a term that the author has adopted herself for using play, creativity, and art resources and soft toys to create dialogues in the Kindergarten and Elementary classroom: It is even possible to extend the use "Soft Toy Theory" to middle school, high school, and adult classrooms if the resources and topics and "tone" and tenor of teaching are appropriately adapted. Soft Toy Theory assumes that soft toys can include: actual soft toys, art resources, and other play resources: such as, sand, water, puppets, masks and clay. Story Sacks employ much of the theory that supports "soft toy usage" within the classroom. Story Sacks aim to provide inspiring resources whilst encouraging enjoyment and a greater comprehension of "real" books or "graded" readers. Additionally, Story Sacks can support extensive reading in the school and at home, and are a useful adjunct to Soft Toy Theory and supporting literacy activities in any classroom.展开更多

The study discovers that local heads' integrity directly affects local political ecology they are in; that regions in the charge of corruptive heads suffer a higher degree of corruption; and that the tenure of corruptive local heads relates much to the degree of local corruption(i.e. the longer their tenure is, the more baneful influence they exert on the clean governance of local leaders and cadres). Consequently, it is imperative to establish and consolidate a power structure and a corresponding operating mechanism which enable effective mutual constraint and balance among decisionmaking power, executive power and supervision power. Only by doing so can China alleviate the negative impact of local heads' corruption, effectively restrict and supervise local heads' exercise of power, and maintain a well balance between "power delegation" and "power supervision".展开更多

Impact refers to the number of times Albrecht & Sack (2000) has been cited and referenced in the three leading US Accounting education journals, being Advances in Accounting Education, Issues in Accounting Education, and the Journal of Accounting Education. This educational note found that since 2001, and until 2007, "Albrecht & Sack (2000)" has been cited in 29.3% of research papers, and the most cited chapter was Chapter 5-"Improving accounting education". While Albrecht & Sack (2000) has been widely cited, the impact in terms of policy changes, and changes to the accounting curriculum has yet to be eventuated. Indeed it may still be too early to examine impact beyond pure citation.展开更多
