The research results show the following: If appropriately controlled, unequalplastic deformation can play an important role not only in the improvement of quality of partsobtained by plastic processing technologies, but also in the development of new processes foradvanced plastic working technologies. A coordinated growth of unequal plastic deformation candevelop the deformation potentiality of material to the fall. The degree of unequal plasticdeformation can be used as bases for optimization design of processes and dies of plastic forming.展开更多

Within the framework of numerical investigation, 3 types of models and a double ellipsoidal heat source were implemented in finite element simulation. As for an effect of geometric shape, the weld-induced deformation and residual stress should be taken into account during designing the welded structure. And for U-shape plates, the effect of curvature radius on the mechanical properties was also obtained, which is a significant factor affecting its service life. The simulation results revealed that the plate processed into U-shape could reduce the deformation and residual stress near the weld. And the deformation and residual stress in U-shape plate with circular arc transition were further reduced. Furthermore, the effect of curvature radius on the mechanical properties of plates was not general considered as the bigger curvature radius the better mechanical properties. The results concluded that the geometric shape significantly affects the mechanical properties, which provides prediction for structural design.展开更多

A comparison between the requirements of flowability and moldability and the compacts shape retention has been made in this work. There is often a contradiction between the requirements of flowability and the compacts shape retention. Many works have been done to attain good molding conditions. However, they fail to take into account the effect of some factors that satisfies good molding conditions on the compacts shape retention during debinding. This paper studies the effect of the powder-binder mixture characteristics and the molding conditions on the flowability and moldability and the shape retention of PIM compacts during debinding process so as to attain the benefits of each.展开更多

However, it has been previously regarded as too challenging to achieve automatic closed-loop control. Previous work has focused on controlling the crystal size distribution, where the size of a crystal is often defined as the diameter of a sphere that has the same volume as the crystal. This paper reviews the new advances in morphological population balance models for modelling and simulating the crystal shape distribution (CShD), measuring and estimating crystal facet growth kinetics, and two- and three-dimensional imaging for on-line characterisation of the crystal morphology and CShD. A framework is presented that integrates the various components to achieve the ultimate objective of model-based closed-loop control of the CShD. The knowledge gaps and challenges that require further research are also identified.展开更多

During this process, the anode workpiece and the cathode tool rotate relative to each other at the same rotation speed. In contrast to the conventional schemes of ECM machining with linear motion of a block tool electrode, this scheme of ECM is unique, and has not been adequately studied yet. In this paper, the finite element method (FEM) is used to simulate the anode shaping process during CRECM, and the simulation process which involves a meshing model, a moving boundary, and a simulation algorithm is described. The simulated anode profiles of the convex structure at different processing times show that the CRECM process can be used to fabricate convex structures of various shapes with different heights. Besides, the variation of the inter-electrode gap indicates that this process can also reach a relative equilibrium state like that in conventional ECM. A rectangular convex and a circular convex are successfully fabricated on revolving parts. The experimental results indicate relatively good agreement with the simulation results. The proposed simulation process is valid for convex shaping prediction and feasibility studies as well.展开更多

Comparisons of exemplifying simulations to results in the literature validate the approach as well as the convergence analysis. Pressure fluctuations occurring in Ladd's approach are greatly reduced. In comparison with the immersed boundary method, this approach does not require cost intensive interpolations. The parallel efficiency of LBM is retained. An intrinsic momentum transfer is observed during particle-particle collisions. To demonstrate the capa- bilities of the approach, sedimentation of particles of several shapes is simulated despite omitting an explicit particle collision model.展开更多
