Considering the concrete structure of helical spring, corresponding responses under different impact frequency of the vehicle are imitated. The reason why the vehicle floor overresponds in some special frequency fields is explored based on analyzing the responses. When the impactions are in low frequency, the change of the spring has not been considered, but this does not affect the results. Because the transmission characters of velocity and acceleration are unanimous in helical spring, the responses characters of velocity and acceleration arc also unanimous, the only difference is the magnitude, which can make use of acceleration responses to analyse velocity responses.展开更多

Model tests are performed to determine how well the asymptotic formula (Faltinsen et al. 1980) predicts the typical level of added resistance in short waves. Because the asymptotic formula neglects the effects of ship motions, it is combined with theoretical methods to calculate the added resistance in long waves using an function to predict the added resistance in the intermediate wavelength region where both ship motions and wave reflection are important. A unique feature of this experiment is that the ship model is divided into three segments to explore the added resistance distribution with respect to hull segment. This paper discusses the sensitivity of experimental results to the quality of the incident regular head waves. Moreover, a novel procedure for analyzing added resistance is described. Finally, the experimentally determined added resistance of KVLCC2 is compared with theoretical results. It is shown that the added resistance from the combined theoretical methods agrees well with experimental results in both the intermediate and short wave regions. The use of hull segments shows that added resistance is concentrated primarily at the bow.展开更多

The self-tuning Proportional- Derivative (PD) controller based on the neural network algorithm is applied to control the thrusters for optimal adjustment of the barge position in waves. In addition to the wave, the current, the wind and the nonlinear drift force are also considered in the calculations. The time domain simulations for the six-degree-of-freedom motions of the barge with the DP system are solved by the 4th order Runge-Kutta method which can compromise the efficiency and the accuracy of the simulations. The technique of the portable alternative DP system developed here can serve as a practical tool to assist those ships without being equipped with the DP facility while the dynamic positioning missions are needed.展开更多

The range of the effective test area of short-crested waves simulated by two-sided segmented wavemakers is analyzed in this paper. The experimental investigation on the wave field distribution of short-crested waves generated by two-sided segmented wavemakers is conducted by using an array of wave gauges. Wave spectra and directional spreading function are analyzed and the results show that when the main direction is at a certain angle with the normal line of wave generators, the wave field of 3D short-crested waves generated by two-sided segmented wavemakers has good spatial uniformity within the model test area. The effective test area can provide good wave environments for seakeeping model tests of various ocean engineering structures in the deep ocean engineering basin.展开更多

For implementing the proposed transformed linear simulation method, a Hermite transformation model expressed in a monotonic cubic polynomial has been constructed so that the first four moments of the original true process match the corresponding moments of the transformed model. The proposed novel simulation method has been applied to forecast the freak wave occurrence in two short crested mixed sea states, one with a directional wave spectrum based on the measured surface elevation data at the coast of Yura, and the other one with a typical directional bimodal Torsethaugen wave spectrum. It is shown in the two cases that the proposed novel simulation method can offer more accurate forecasting results than those obtained from the traditional linear simulation method or by using Rayleigh distribution model. It is also demonstrated in this article that the proposed novel simulation method is more efficient than the nonlinear simulation method.展开更多

Assuming that the long-wave component of sHmax is expressed by the absolute direction of plate motions, we can get the relative orientation and the magnitude of the short-wave component resulted from the local tectonic process or other factors with vector analytical technique. The global surface was divided into basic element bins by 2.52.5 dimensions and the WSM indicators were statistically analyzed for each element by weight coefficient method in order to determine the mean orientation of the stress. We calculated the long-wave component of the global stress field using HS2-NUVEL1 model. The relative magnitude or the direction limitation of short-wave component, which reflect the local contribution to the observed stresses, was determined by the angle between the mean sHmax and the orien-tation of the long-wave component. The results of this paper show that the contribution of either the long-wave component or the short-wave component is approximately equal to most of the global plates on the basis of the mean effect of the observed stresses. For some of continental regions, the local active tectonics plays an important role in the observed stresses and controls the generation and occurrence of earthquakes.展开更多

The whole solution domain is divided into one unbounded sub-domain and one bounded sub-domain by the exterior cylinder. By weakening the governing differential equation in the circumferential direction, the SBFEM equations for both domains can be solved analytically in the radial direction. Only the boundary on the circumference of the exterior porous cylinder is discretized with curved surface finite elements. Meanwhile, by introducing a variable porous-effect parameter G, non-homogeneous materials caused by the complex configuration of the exterior cylinder are modeled without additional efforts. Comparisons clearly demonstrate the excellent accuracy and computational efficiency associated with the present SBFEM. The effects of the wide range wave parameters and the structure configuration are examined. This parametric study will help determine the various hydrodynamic effects of the concentric porous cylindrical structure.展开更多
