The ER performance of the SiO_2 particles can be ameliorated after adsorbing Y_2(CO_3)_3. In this paper, the effect of Y_2(CO_3)_3 and different surfactants on the ER performance of the SiO_2 particle materials is investigated. The results show that anionic or cationic surfactants maybe enhance the ER activity of SiO_2 material, and nonionic surfactants cannot when surfactants are added during the process of the SiO_2 particle preparation, only the anionic surfactant, AES, can enhance markedly the ER performance of the material. The surface area, pore volume and pore diameter of the particles were measured. The effect of Y_2(CO_3)_3 and the surfactants on the microstructure of SiO_2 materials and the relationship between ER effect and the microstructure are described.展开更多

However, the structural, electronic, and mechanical properties of the compounds in CaO–SiO_(2)system are still not fully clarified due to the difficulties in the experiments. In this study, a thorough investigation of these properties of CaO–SiO_(2)compound particles in steels was conducted based on first-principles density functional theory. Corresponding phases were determined by thermodynamic calculation, including gamma dicalcium silicate(γ-C2S), alpha-prime(L) dicalcium silicate(αL′-C2S), alpha-prime(H) dicalcium silicate(αH′-C2S), alpha dicalcium silicate(α-C2S), rankinite(C3S2), hatrurite(C3S), wollastonite(CS), and pseudowollastonite(Ps-CS). The results showed that the calculated crystal structures of the eight phases agree well with the experimental results. All the eight phases are stable according to the calculated formation energies, and γ-C2S is the most stable. O atom contributes the most to the reactivity of these phases. The Young’s modulus of the eight phases is in the range of 100.63–132.04 GPa. Poisson’s ratio is in the range of0.249–0.281. This study provided further understanding concerning the CaO–SiO_(2)compound particles in steels and fulfilled the corresponding property database, paving the way for inclusion engineering and design in terms of fracture-resistant steels.展开更多

The drag reduction effects of adding SiO_(2) nanoparticles to various polymer polyacrylamide(PAM) solutions were examined in this work. The optimal combination of SiO_(2) nanoparticles with cationic polyacrylamide was confirmed.Interestingly, the addition of SiO_(2) nanoparticles to cationic polyacrylamide solution was shown to be quite efficient for reducing drag, but only at higher flow rates with Reynolds numbers more than 6000, below which the nanoparticle addition is even negative. The addition of SiO_(2) nanoparticles to the PAM solution is supposed to play a dual role. The first is an increase in flow resistance caused by the Brownian motion of nanoparticles, while the second is a decrease in flow resistance caused by acting as nodes to protect the polymer chain from shear-induced breaking under high shear action. At optimal nanoparticle concentration and under higher Reynolds numbers, the later effect is dominant, which could improve the drag reduction performance of polymer drag reducers. Our work should serve as a guide for the application of natural gas fracturing, where the flow rate is frequently very high.展开更多
