Depending on the experiment of low sidewall air supply in summer 2008,the thermal stratification level was studied by simulation. Based on the simulation of experiment condition, the air velocity and vertical temperature distribution in a large space were simulated at different air-outlet velocities, and then the thermal stratification level line was obtained. The simulation results well match with the experimental ones and the average relative error is 3.4%. The thermal stratification level is heightened by increasing the air-outlet velocity with low sidewall air supply mode. It is concluded that when air-outlet velocity is 0.29 m/s,which is the experimental case,a uniform thermal environment in the higher occupied zone and a stable stratification level are formed. When the air-outlet velocity is low, such as 0.05 m/s,the thermal stratification level is too low and the air velocity is too small to meet the human thermal comfort in the occupied zone. So,it would be reasonable that the air-outlet velocity may be designed as 0.31 m/s if the height of the occupied zone is 2 m.展开更多

It has a wide range of engineering applications, especially in tanker ships and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carriers. When the tank in these vehicles is partially filled, it is essential to be able to evaluate the fluid dynamic loads on tank perimeter. Different geometric shapes such as rectangular, cylindrical, elliptical, spherical and circular conical have been suggested for ship storage tanks by previous researchers. In this paper a numerical model is developed based on incompressible and inviscid fluid motion for the liquid sloshing phenomenon. The coupled BEM-FEM is used to solve the governing equations and nonlinear free surface boundary conditions. The results are validated for rectangular container using data obtained for a horizontal periodic sway motion. Using the results of this model a new arrangement of trapezoidal shapes with quadratic sidewalls is suggested for tanker ship storage panels. The suggested geometric shape not only has a maximum surrounded tank volume to the constant available volume, but also reduces the sloshing effects more efficiently than the existing geometric shapes.展开更多

The hydrodynamic derivatives measured by the planar motion mechanism (PMM) test provide a way to predict the change of ship maneuverability. This paper presents a numerical simulation of PMM model tests with variant distances to a vertical bank by using unsteady RANS equations. A hybrid dynamic mesh technique is developed to realize the mesh configuration and remeshing of dynamic PMM tests when the ship is close to the bank. The proposed method is validated by comparing numerical results with results of PMM tests in a circulating water channel. The first-order hydrodynamic derivatives of the ship are analyzed from the time history of lateral force and yaw moment according to the multiple-run simulating procedure and the variations of hydrodynamic derivatives with the ship-sidewall distance are given. The straight line stability and directional stability are also discussed and stable or unstable zone of proportional-derivative (PD) controller parameters for directional stability is shown, which can be a reference for course keeping operation when sailing near a bank.展开更多

Not only does it cause huge economic losses, but also it determines the success or failure of drilling engineering. Due to complex relationship between various factors which influence sidewall stability, it hasn’t been found a widely applied method to predicate sidewall stability so far. Therefore, in order to formulate corresponding measures to ensure successful drilling, searching for a kind of better method to forecast sidewall stability before drilling becomes an imperative and significant topic for drilling engineering. On the basis of traditional sidewall stability analytical method, we have put forward the Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation Method to forecast sidewall stability regulation using physico-chemical performance parameters of the clay mineral. Assume that the dimensionless numbers R(m) much less than 1, M, N much greater than 1, and sigma* much less than 1 and that the distance between two perpendicular walls is very long in comparison with the distance between two sidewalls. First, the equation for steady flow is established, and the solution of M-shaped velocity distribution is given. Then, an equation for stability of small disturbances is derived based on the velocity distribution obtained. Finally, it is proved that the stability equation for sidewall how can be transformed into the famous Orr-Sommerfeld equation, in addition, the following theorems are also proved, namely, the analogy theorem, the generalized Rayleigh's theorem, the generalized Fjortoft's theorem and the generalized Joseph's theorems.展开更多

The bird is modeled with SPH and described by the Murnaghan equation of state, while the structure is modeled with finite elements. A coupled SPH-FE method is developed to simulate the bird-strike tests and a numerical model is established using a commercial software PAM-CRASH. The bird model shows no signs of instability and correctly modeled the break-up of the bird into particles. Finally the dynamic response such as strains in the skin is simulated and compared with test results, and the simulated deformation and fracture process of the sidewall structure is compared with images recorded by a high speed camera. Good agreement between the simulation results and test data indicates that the coupled SPH-FE method can provide a very powerful tool in predicting the dynamic responses of aircraft structures in events of bird strike.展开更多

In this paper, the parylene thin film is reported to serve as the passivation layer owing to its excellent conformality, chemical inertness, mechanical performance, and especially, low growth temperature. The deposited parylene films are characterized and the test structures are released through SCREAM process utilizing the parylene films as a passivation layer. The results show that as a passivation layer the parylene has more merits than the PECVD SiO2 film.展开更多

This typically results in undesired sidewall effects, such as lower sidewall angles. Here we report a novel hanging bowlshaped lithography mask that can effectively minimize sidewall effects in lithography applications. As a test case, standard silicon carbide pillars with vertical sidewalls are fabricated using this mask. 文摘The effects of inlet gas parameters and sloping sidewall angle on the flame structure and combustion limit with and without sidewall were experimentally investigated.Flame height and impact angle were obtained by chemiluminescence intensity analysis of CH*distribution.First, the combustion characteristics of flame with and without sidewall at different equivalence ratios were explored;then, the influence of Reynolds number and inlet gas temperature on flame structure and combustion limit of v-shaped flame with sidewall were analyzed, and the results with sidewall were compared with those without sidewall. Finally, the variation trend of flame parameters with different sloping sidewall angles was analyzed. The experimental results show that the existence of sidewall makes flame shape change from“M-shaped”to“inverted N-shaped”,and conical shape to trapezoidal shape. The inhibition effect of sidewall on flame stretching downstream is strengthened with the increase in Reynolds number;but as the temperature of the inlet gas increases, the inhibitory effect is obviously weakened. When sloping sidewall angle decreases from 90°to 55°at 5°intervals,flame height and impact angle of v-shaped flame reach the extreme value whenβ=80°.Compared with the case without sidewall, the range of v-shaped flame with sidewall has no obvious trend of broadening or shrinking when inlet gas temperature is increased;however,as sloping sidewall angle decreases, the range of the v-shaped flame shrinks obviously and flammability limit increases significantly.

文摘The velocity distribution between two sidewalls is; M-shaped for the MHD channel flows with rectangular cross section and thin conducting walls in a strong transverse magnetic field. Finally, it is proved that the stability equation for sidewall how can be transformed into the famous Orr-Sommerfeld equation, in addition, the following theorems are also proved, namely, the analogy theorem, the generalized Rayleigh's theorem, the generalized Fjortoft's theorem and the generalized Joseph's theorems.

文摘Particle mixing and segregation are common phenomena in rotary drums, which are challenging to be controlled and driven artificially in powder technology. In this work, the discrete element method(DEM)was applied to construct the novel rotary drum composed of different shaped curved sidewalls.By varying the operation parameters of particle and sidewall shapes as well as the length-to-diameter(L/D)ratio of drums, the axial mixing and segregation processes of binary size-induced particles were investigated. The results show that the axial flow velocity of the particle mixtures is noticeably weakened once the particle angularity increases, making the non-spherical particles to mix better in rotary drums compared to the spherical particles.Besides,in the short drums with size-induced spherical particles, the axial segregation characteristics are significantly enhanced by the convex sidewalls while suppressed by the concave sidewalls. However, for size-induced non-spherical particles, the axial segregation structure can be present in rotary drums with plane and concave sidewalls while not in drums with convex sidewalls. Moreover, the axial segregation band structure of spherical particles eventually increases proportionally with the increased drum L/D ratios. In contrast, the non-spherical particles cannot form obvious multi-proportional segregation bands.

文摘A disadvantage of the conventional quasi-static test method is that it does not consider the soil restraint effect.A new method to test the seismic performance of prefabricated specimens for underground assembled structures is proposed, which can realistically reflect the strata restraint effect on the underground structure.Laboratory work combined with finite element(FE)analysis is performed in this study.Three full-scale sidewall specimens with different joint forms are designed and fabricated.Indices related to the seismic performance and damage modes are analyzed comprehensively to reveal the mechanism of the strata restraint effect on the prefabricated sidewall components.Test results show that the strata restraint effect effectively improves the energy dissipation capacity,load-bearing capacity, and the recoverability of the internal deformation of the precast sidewall components. However, the strata restraint effect reduces the ductility of the precast sidewall components and aggravates the shear and bending deformations in the core region of the connection joints.Additionally, the strata restraint effect significantly affects the seismic performance and damage mode of the prefabricated sidewall components. An FE model that can be used to conduct a seismic performance study of prefabricated specimens for underground assembled structures is proposed, and its feasibility is verified via comparison with test data.

文摘In micro electrochemical machining(ECM)processes, stray corrosion causes undesired metal dissolution and the deterioration of shape accuracy.Adopting a sidewall-insulated electrode is an effective approach to suppressing stray corrosion. Most sidewall-insulated electrodes are made of metal substrate and non-metallic thin films.Nevertheless, the thin-film insulating materials attached to a metal substrate are susceptible to damage in an electrolytic environment. This study presents a novel concept of the conductive-material-filled electrode for better sidewallinsulation performance. The micro-scale quartz tube serves as the insulating substrate.Commercially available conductive fillers including metal wire, molten metals, and silver powder are filled inside the working cathode of the quartz tube.Consequently, the metal-wire-filled electrode,moltenmetal-filled electrode, and nano-powder-filled electrode are designed and fabricated. From the verification results of electrode toughness, material removal rate, and surface topography, the metal-wire-filled electrode and moltenmetal-filled electrode exhibit the same performance as a traditional metal-based electrode and much better durability.By contrast, the nano-powder-filled electrode is unable to withstand long-term ECM processes because of the loss of cured powder particles. In ECM experiments, microstructures with steep sidewalls(taper angle<9.7°)were machined using the metal-wire-filled electrode and molten-metal-filled electrode, which could replace the traditional electrode, achieving a longer service life and superior sidewall-insulation performance.

文摘This paper presents the effect of wind tunnel sidewalls on the wind turbine airfoils with experimental and numerical methods. The test is carried out in a low-speed wind tunnel at Re=2.62×10^(5).Pressures acting on the airfoil surface are measured by a multiport pressure device. And,the oil flow visualization technique is used to investigate the flow field characteristics of the airfoil surface. Then,a numerical simulation was conducted with the measurement results. As a result,it is clarified the flow structures on the airfoil surface depend strongly on the angles of attack and the sidewalls. At small angles of attack, the three-dimensional separation caused by the interaction between the sidewall boundary layer and the airfoil boundary layer is very small, and only appears near the junction of the airfoil model and the sidewall. This corner separation becomes large with the increase of the angle of attack. At the middle part of the testing model, the boundary layer flow evolves into three-dimensional separation,i.e.,stall cell, when the separation develops to an appreciate extent. The stall phenomenon will further spread from the center line to sidewalls with the increase of the angle of attack;and then, its development will be limited by the sidewall boundary layer separation.Comparably, the simulation shows that the sidewall make the pressure coefficient Cpdecrease, and proper boundary condition can maintain two-dimensional flow at large angles of attack by eliminating the influence of corner vortices.
文摘Objective:The objective of this research was to explore the difference and correlation of the morphological and hemodynamic features between sidewall and bifurcation aneurysms in anterior circulation arteries, utilizing computational fluid dynamics as a tool for analysis. Methods:In line with the designated inclusion criteria, this study covered 160 aneurysms identified in 131 patients who received treatment at Union Hospital of Tongji Medical College,Huazhong University of Science and Technology,China, from January 2021 to September 2022.Utilizing follow-up digital subtraction angiography(DSA)data, these cases were classified into two distinct groups:the sidewall aneurysm group and the bifurcation aneurysm group.Morphological and hemodynamic parameters in the immediate preoperative period were meticulously calculated and examined in both groups using a three-dimensional DSA reconstruction model. Results:No significant differences were found in the morphological or hemodynamic parameters of bifurcation aneurysms at varied locations within the anterior circulation. However, pronounced differences were identified between sidewall and bifurcation aneurysms in terms of morphological parameters such as the diameter of the parent vessel(Dvessel),inflow angle(θF),and size ratio(SR),as well as the hemodynamic parameter of inflow concentration index(ICI)(P<0.001).Notably,only the SR exhibited a significant correlation with multiple hemodynamic parameters(P<0.001),while the ICI was closely related to several morphological parameters(R>0.5,P<0.001).Conclusions:The significant differences in certain morphological and hemodynamic parameters between sidewall and bifurcation aneurysms emphasize the importance to contemplate variances in threshold values for these parameters when evaluating the risk of rupture in anterior circulation aneurysms.Whether it is a bifurcation or sidewall aneurysm, these disparities should be considered. The morphological parameter SR has the potential to be a valuable clinical tool for promptly distinguishing the distinct rupture risks associated with sidewall and bifurcation aneurysms.

文摘In order to examine the potential of using the coupled smooth particles hydrodynamic (SPH) and finite element (FE) method to predict the dynamic responses of aircraft structures in bird strike events, bird-strike tests on the sidewall structure of an aircraft nose are carried out and numerically simulated. Good agreement between the simulation results and test data indicates that the coupled SPH-FE method can provide a very powerful tool in predicting the dynamic responses of aircraft structures in events of bird strike.

文摘Trench sidewall passivation is a key step in the SCREAM (single crystal reactive etching and metallization) process for releasing suspended MEMS structures. The results show that as a passivation layer the parylene has more merits than the PECVD SiO2 film.

文摘Contact exposure is expected to occur in conventional lithography, and can be a source of process deviations (such as shrinking and distortion of templates) during reactive ion etching and inductively coupled plasma etching, as these deviations are induced by ion bombardment. The mask could be used for fabrication of high-aspect-ratio structures with ultra-violet lithography.

文摘The synthesis, structure, and properties of pyrene-based conformationally adaptive macrocycles are described. This new type of conformationally adaptive macrocycle was constructed through Perkin reaction, followed by imidization.By changing the condensation partner as the linking unit,a family of conjugated macrocycles with different sizes of the cavity was synthesized, which provide a simple and modular synthetic strategy towards the conformationally adaptive macrocycles.Furthermore, the macrocycles provide two well-defined conformations through flipping pyrene subunit, which were unambiguously determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The conformational interconversion barrier was determined by density functional theory(DFT)calculations. This new macrocycle also demonstrated unique properties, such as vapochromic behavior and aggregation emission enhancement effect.Furthermore,we have also investigated the effect of the linker on the shape and photophysical properties of the resulting macrocyclic products.
