Using the maximum heights of the caving zone and the water-conducting fractured zone as test indices the modulus of elasticity,the Poisson ratio,cohesion and tension strength as test factors and different values of reduction enhancement factors as test levels,an orthogonal test was designed to obtain an optimum simulation scheme.From the analysis of different values of reduction enhancement factors which affect the test indices,an optimum factor combination for modification of parameters could be inferred.By using modified parameters in our numerical simulation,the maximum heights of the caving zone and the water-conducting fractured zone in the extensive Xiyi area were determined as 15.06 m and 36.92 m.These values were almost the same as those obtained by similar material simulation(8.5 m and 37.0 m)and empirical prediction(8.4 m and 34.4 m).These results indicate that the modification of parameters is a rational method.展开更多
Based on mineral component and in-situ vane shear strength of deep-sea sediment, four kinds of simulative soils were prepared by mixing different bentonites with water in order to find the best simulative soil for the...Based on mineral component and in-situ vane shear strength of deep-sea sediment, four kinds of simulative soils were prepared by mixing different bentonites with water in order to find the best simulative soil for the deep-sea sediment collected from the Pacific C-C area. Shear creep characteristics of the simulative soil were studied by shear creep test and shear creep parameters were determined by Burgers creep model. Research results show that the shear creep curves of the simulative soil can be divided into transient creep, unstable creep and stable creep, where the unstable creep stage is very short due to its high water content. The shear creep parameters increase with compressive stress and change slightly or fluctuate to approach a constant value with shear stress, and thus average creep parameters under the same compressive stress are used as the creep parameters of the simulative soil. Traction of the deep-sea mining machine walking at a constant velocity can be calculated by the shear creep constitutive equation of the deep-sea simulative soil, which provides a theoretical basis for safe operation and optimal design of the deep-sea mining machine.展开更多

First, the thermal simulation experiments for pure titanium TA1 were carried out to investigate the hot deformation behaviors of pure titanium in the temperature range of 700-800 ℃ with strain rate range of 1-20 S-1, and the processing map was established to determine optimized deformation parameters. Then, the finite element model has been constructed and used to analyze the effect of process parameters on the direction and severity of head curvature of pure titanium sheet. The process parameters considered in the present study include workpiece temperature, work roll diameter, pass reduction, oxide scale thickness of workpiece surface, and interface friction coefficient. The simulation results show that the workpiece temperature and the interface friction coefficient are the two main factors. The proposed controlling means was carried out on a hot rolling production line and solved the head curvature problem effectively. The rolling practices indicate that the rolling yield is improved greatly.展开更多

We present an optimization method for the kinetic formula of graphene DEP, and di...The method of using dielectrophoresis (DEP) to assemble graphene between micro-electrodes has been proven to be simple and efficient. We present an optimization method for the kinetic formula of graphene DEP, and discuss the simulation of the graphene assembly process based on the finite element method. The simulated results illustrate that the accelerated motion of graphene is in agreement with the distribution of the electric field squared gradient. We also conduct research on the controllable parameters of the DEP assembly such as the alternating current (AC) frequency, the shape of micro-electrodes, and the ratio of the gap between electrodes to the characteristic/geometric length of graphene (λ). The simulations based on the Clausius-Mossotti factor reveal that both graphene velocity and direction are influenced by the AC frequency. When graphene is close to the electrodes, the shape of micro-electrodes will exert great influence on the velocity of graphene. Also, λ has a great influence on the velocity of graphene. Generally, the velocity of graphene would be greater when λ is in the range of 0.4 0.6. The study is of a theoretical guiding significance in improving the precision and efficiency of the graphene DEP assembly.展开更多

Algebraic transformations are frequentl...An analysis of statistical expected values for transformations is performed in this study to quantify the effect of heterogeneity on spatial geological modeling and evaluations. Algebraic transformations are frequently applied to data from logging to allow for the modeling of geological properties. Transformations may be powers, products, and exponential operations which are commonly used in well-known relations (e.g., porosity-permeability transforms). The results of this study show that correct computations must account for residual transformation terms which arise due to lack of independence among heterogeneous geological properties. In the case of an exponential porosity-permeability transform, the values may be positive. This proves that a simple exponential model back-transformed from linear regression underestimates permeability. In the case of transformations involving two or more properties, residual terms may represent the contribution of heterogeneous components which occur when properties vary together, regardless of a pair-wise linear independence. A consequence of power- and product-transform models is that regression equations within those transformations need corrections via residual cumulants. A generalization of this result is that transformations of multivariate spatial attributes require multiple-point random variable relations. This analysis provides practical solutions leading to a methodology for nonlinear modeling using correct back transformations in geology.展开更多
To solve the problem of supporting three downhill coal structures in the Yongan Coal Mine of Shanxi Jincheng, we studied the regular development of stress and plastic zones and characteristics of deformation of rock s...To solve the problem of supporting three downhill coal structures in the Yongan Coal Mine of Shanxi Jincheng, we studied the regular development of stress and plastic zones and characteristics of deformation of rock surrounding roadway groups after a period of roadway driving, mining one side as well as mining both sides, we used FLAC 3D for our numerical and theoretical analyses. Field test were carried out, where we revealed the deformation mechanism of roadways and its coal pillars in complex stress conditions. We proposed a roadway stability control technology using backwall grouting with high-water rapid hardening material and combined support with bolt and cable anchoring after mining both sides. Our field practices showed that deformation of rock surrounding roadways can be controlled with this technology.展开更多

However, the evolution of Al-Si coating during the h...The Al-Si coating of ultra-high strength steel has been applied to hot stamping more and more widely, owing to solving the problem of oxidation and decarburization. However, the evolution of Al-Si coating during the heating process was rarely studied in the previous study. The tests about the influence of heating parameters, such as heating temperature, heating rates and dwell time, on properties of the Al-Si coating were carried out on the Gleeble-3500 thermal simulator. The properties of the Al-Si coating, for instance, volume fraction of FeAl intermetallics, α-Fe layer as well as porosity and 3D surface topography, were explored in the study. Results showed that more and more Kirkendall voids and cracks appeared in the Al-Si coating when the heating temperature exceeded 600°C. The heating rates almost had no influence on properties of the Al-Si coating when the temperature was equal to or lower than 500°C. The volume fraction of FeAl intermetallics in the coating with dwell time from 3 s to 8 min at 930°C was0, 6.19%, 17.03% and 20.65%, separately. The volume fraction of the α-Fe layer in the coating changed from zero to 31.52%with the prolonged dwell time. The porosity of the coating ranged from 0.51% to 4.98% with the extension of dwell time. The unsmooth degree of the surface of the coating rose gradually with the increasing of heating rates and the extension of dwell time.The 3D surface topography of the coating was determined by the comprehensive effect of atoms diffusion, new formed phases,surface tension and the degree of oxidation of the coating surface. Experiments indicated that rapid heating was not suitable for the coating when the temperature exceeded 500°C. Experiments also demonstrated that enough dwell time was essential to obtain the superior properties of the coating.展开更多
Modern agricultural tractors are complex systems,in which multiple physical(and technological)domains interact to reach a wide set of competing goals,including work operational performance and energy efficiency.This c...Modern agricultural tractors are complex systems,in which multiple physical(and technological)domains interact to reach a wide set of competing goals,including work operational performance and energy efficiency.This complexity translates to the dynamic,multi‐domain simulation models implemented to serve as digital twins,for rapid prototyping and effective pre‐tuning,prior to bench and on‐field testing.Consequently,a suitable simulation framework should have the capability to focus both on the vehicle as a whole and on individual subsystems.For each of the latter,multiple options should be available,with different levels of detail,to properly address the relevant phenomena,depending on the specific focus,for an optimal balance between accuracy and computation time.The methodology proposed here by the authors is based on the lumped parameter approach and integrates the models for the following subsystems in a modular context:internal combustion engine,hydromechanical transmission,vehicle body,and tyre–soil interaction.The model is completed by a load cycle module that generates stimulus time histories to reproduce the work load under real operating conditions.Traction capability is affected by vertical load on the wheels,which is even more relevant if the vehicle is travelling on an uncompacted soil and subject to a variable drawbar pull force as it is when ploughing.The vertical load is,in turn,heavily affected by vehicle dynamics,which can be accurately modelled via a full multibody implementation.The presented lumped parameter model is intended as a powerful simulation tool to evaluate tractor performance,both in terms of fuel consumption and traction dynamics,by considering the cascade phenomena from the wheel–ground interaction to the engine,passing through the dynamics of vehicle bodies and their mass transfer.Its capabilities and numerical results are presented for the simulation of a realistic ploughing operation.展开更多

The maintenance of the grassland ecosystem refers to the unchanged or increased quantity of living biomass and wilted biomass in the ecosystem,and the degradation of the grassland ecosystem refers to the reduction in the quantity of living biomass and wilted biomass or its transformation into a desert ecosystem. Based on a theoretical five-variable grassland ecosystem model, 32 physical model parameters are selected for numerical experiments. Two types of parameter uncertainties could be obtained. The first type of parameter uncertainty is the linear combination of each parameter uncertainty that is computed using the CNOP-P method. The second type is the parameter uncertainty from multi-parameter optimization using the CNOP-P method. The results show that for the 32 model parameters, at a given optimization time and with greater parameter uncertainty, the patterns of the two types of parameter uncertainties are different. The different patterns represent physical processes of soil wetness. This implies that the variations in soil wetness(surface layer and root zone) are the primary reasons for uncertainty in the maintenance or degradation of grassland ecosystems, especially for the soil moisture of the surface layer. The above results show that the CNOP-P method is a useful tool for discussing the abovementioned problems.展开更多
