The parameters such as b... The small-scale drilling technique can be a fast and reliable method to estimate rock strength parameters. It needs to link the operational drilling parameters and strength properties of rock. The parameters such as bit geometry, bit movement, contact frictions and crushed zone affect the estimated parameters.An analytical model considering operational drilling data and effective parameters can be used for these purposes. In this research, an analytical model was developed based on limit equilibrium of forces in a Tshaped drag bit considering the effective parameters such as bit geometry, crushed zone and contact frictions in drilling process. Based on the model, a method was used to estimate rock strength parameters such as cohesion, internal friction angle and uniaxial compressive strength of different rock types from operational drilling data. Some drilling tests were conducted by a portable and powerful drilling machine which was developed for this work. The obtained results for strength properties of different rock types from the drilling experiments based on the proposed model are in good agreement with the results of standard tests. Experimental results show that the contact friction between the cutting face and rock is close to that between bit end wearing face and rock due to the same bit material. In this case,the strength parameters, especially internal friction angle and cohesion, are estimated only by using a blunt bit drilling data and the bit bluntness does not affect the estimated results. 展开更多

This paper attempts to study dolomite failure using small-scale blast tests.The experimental setup consisted of a cylindrical specimen with a central borehole fitted with a detonation cord inside a copper pipe.The specimen was confined using lead material.During the test,acceleration histories were recorded using sensors placed on the lead confinement.The results showed that heterogeneity and initial cracks significantly influenced the observed failure and cracking patterns.The tests were numerically represented using the previously validated Johnson-HolmquistⅡ(JH-2)constitutive model.The properties of the detonation cord were first determined and verified in a special test with a lead specimen to compare the deformation in the test with that of numerical simulation.Then,the small-scale blast test was simulated,and the failure of the dolomite was compared with the test observations.Comparisons of acceleration histories,scabbing failure,and number of radial cracks and crack density confirmed the overall repeatability of the actual testing data.It is likely that the proposed model can be further used for numerical studies of blasting of dolomite rock. 展开更多

Accurately characterizing the wireless small-scale fading channel has been a challenging task in the wireless communication era due to the surrounding environment. Therefore, this paper introduces a new technique to experimentally characterize the small-scale fading taking under consideration real environmental conditions. By conducting a two dimensional measurement while the mobile receiver is moving;a more accurate channel will be achieved. Two-dimensional measurement refers to collecting data from the receiver along the x and y direction. The two-dimensional measurement data contain far more information than a one-dimensional data collected. In order to represent the small-scale channel along with the real environmental conditions, new approaches are necessary to configure the two-dimensional system and to analyze the 2D data. The new approach this paper introduces for the characterization is that the measurements are conducted on a receiver while it is moving in a two dimensional manner, under different scenarios, Line-of-sight, Non-line-of-sight, and Two-wave-Diffuse Power. The experiment was conducted in a 7 meters long by 4 meters wide room, wherein the distance between the transmitter antenna and receiver is about 3 meters. Those scenarios represent different real-time conditions where obstacles differ from one scenario to another. For example, the line of sight scenario assumes there a clear line of sight between transmitter and receiver, Non line of sight assumes many obstacles between the transmitter and receiver, i.e. walls, cabinets, etc. and Two Wave Diffuse Power assumes a metallic reflector surrounding the receiver. The experiment showed more accurate results when compared to the one dimensional measurement that has been done in the past where receiver is moving in one direction and also receiver being fixed where a constructive and destructive interference is not captured. The two dimensional measurement technique, i.e. capturing data while receiver moving in both x and y directions, provided essential information regarding the constructive and destructive interference patterns caused by the interaction between the receiver while moving and the obstacles surrounding the receiver. 展开更多

Small-scale multi-axial hybrid simulation of a shear-critical reinforced concrete frame

This study presents a numerical multi-scale simulation framework which is extended to accommodate hybrid simulation (numerical-experimental integration). The framework is enhanced with a standardized data exchange format and connected to a generalized controller interface program which facilitates communication with various types of laboratory equipment and testing configurations. A small-scale experimental program was conducted using a six degree-of-freedom hydraulic testing equipment to verify the proposed framework and provide additional data for small-scale testing of shear- critical reinforced concrete structures. The specimens were tested in a multi-axial hybrid simulation manner under a reversed cyclic loading condition simulating earthquake forces. The physical models were 1/3.23-scale representations of a beam and two columns. A mixed-type modelling technique was employed to analyze the remainder of the structures. The hybrid simulation results were compared against those obtained from a large-scale test and finite element analyses. The study found that if precautions are taken in preparing model materials and if the shear-related mechanisms are accurately considered in the numerical model, small-scale hybrid simulations can adequately simulate the behaviour of shear-critical structures. Although the findings of the study are promising, to draw general conclusions additional test data are required. 展开更多

Based on analyzing the limitations of the commonly used back-propagation neural network (BPNN), a wavelet neural network (WNN) is adopted as the nonlinear river channel flood forecasting method replacing the BPNN. The WNN has the characteristics of fast convergence and improved capability of nonlinear approximation. For the purpose of adapting the timevarying characteristics of flood routing, the WNN is coupled with an AR real-time correction model. The AR model is utilized to calculate the forecast error. The coefficients of the AR real-time correction model are dynamically updated by an adaptive fading factor recursive least square(RLS) method. The application of the flood forecasting method in the cross section of Xijiang River at Gaoyao shows its effectiveness. 展开更多

Current statistical model(CSM) has a good performance in maneuvering target tracking. However, the fixed maneuvering frequency will deteriorate the tracking results, such as a serious dynamic delay, a slowly converging speedy and a limited precision when using Kalman filter(KF) algorithm. In this study, a new current statistical model and a new Kalman filter are proposed to improve the performance of maneuvering target tracking. The new model which employs innovation dominated subjection function to adaptively adjust maneuvering frequency has a better performance in step maneuvering target tracking, while a fluctuant phenomenon appears. As far as this problem is concerned, a new adaptive fading Kalman filter is proposed as well. In the new Kalman filter, the prediction values are amended in time by setting judgment and amendment rules,so that tracking precision and fluctuant phenomenon of the new current statistical model are improved. The results of simulation indicate the effectiveness of the new algorithm and the practical guiding significance. 展开更多

Nowadays, the mitigation of damage to a ship caused by the underwater explosion attracts more and more attention from the modern ship designers. In this study, two kinds of scale tests were conducted to investigate the effects of polyurea coatings on the blast resistance of hulls subjected to underwater explosion. Firstly, small-scale model tests with different polyurea coatings were carried out. Results indicate that polyurea has a better blast resistance performance when coated on the front face, which can effectively reduce the maximum deflection of the steel plate by more than 20% and reduce the deformation energy by 35.7%-45.4%. Next, a full-scale ship(approximately 50 m × 9 m) under loadings produced by the detonation of 33 kg of spherical TNT charges was tested, where a part of the ship was coated with polyurea on the front face(8 mm + 24 mm) and not on the contrast area. Damage characteristics on the bottom were statistically analyzed based on a 3D scanning technology, indicating that polyurea contributes to enhancing the blast protection of the ship. However, damage results of this test were different from those of the small-scale tests. Moreover, the deformation area of the bottom with polyurea was greatly increased by 40.1% to disperse explosion energy, a conclusion that cannot be drown from the small-scale tests. 展开更多

This paper derives a non-stationary multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) from the one-ring scattering model. The proposed channel model characterizes vehicular radio propagation channels with considerations of moving base and mobile stations, which makes the angle of arrivals(AOAs) along with the angle of departures(AODs) time-variant. We introduce the methodology of including the time-variant impacts when characterizing non-stationary radio propagation channels through the geometrical channel modelling approach. We analyze the statistical properties of the proposed channel model including the local time-variant autocorrelation function(ACF) and the space cross-correlation functions(CCFs). We show that the model developed in this paper for non-stationary scenarios includes the existing one-ring wide-sense stationary channel model as its special case. 展开更多

A new dynamic model is developed in this paper based on the generic MATLAB battery model. The battery capacity is expressed as a function of the self-discharge rate, the discharge current, the cycling life and the temperature of the battery. The dependence of the model parameters on cycle life and temperature are estimated from the first order approximation. The detailed procedures and formula to extract the model parameters are presented and the extraction relies only on the discharge curves at two different discharge currents, at two different life cycles, and at two different temperatures. These discharge curves are typically provided in the battery manufacturer’s datasheet. The proposed model is verified for both nickel-metal hydride and lithium-ion batteries by comparing the calculated discharge curves with the results from the generic MATLAB model. The model is further validated for the Sinopoly lithium-ion battery (SP-LFP1000AHA) by comparing the model results with the discharge curves from the manufacturer’s datasheet at different discharge currents, different cycling numbers, and different temperatures. Simulation results show that the new model can correctly predict voltage separation beyond the nominal zone while maintaining the same level of accuracy as the generic MATLAB model in the exponential and nominal zones. 展开更多

Secondly, the AR model of order p is used to approximate the flat Rayleigh fading channels; its stability is discussed, and an algorithm for solving the AR model parameters is also given. Finally, an AR channel prediction model based on particle filtering and second-order AR model is presented. This paper derives new and exact closed-form expressions for the average symbol error rate(SER) of square M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation(M-QAM) in wireless communication systems over theα-μfading channels subject to an additive non-Gaussian noise. The obtained expressions take into account static and mobile wireless receivers. In addition, a closed-form expression for the outage probability in mobile networks is obtained. Please note that all derived expressions in this paper a valid for integer and non-integer values of the fading parameters. Analytical results are presented to study the impact of noise shaping parameter, severity of fading, and mobility on the average SER. The change of channel is caused by Doppler effect, and the degree of change is related to relative velocity in the condition of the certain carrier frequency. The multipath fading channel is independent of each other, whose amplitude obeys Rayleigh distribution and the phase obeys uniform distribution. The model of multipath time-varying transmission channel is built. Through the pro-cess of channel model building, the simulation results produced by the channel model verify the effect of the proposed model in the aspect of reducing test data. In a communication system, signal passing through the channel is involved with the process of digital modulation and demodulation. Binary sequence signal is modulated into a complex sequence in the process of modulation before the transmission in the channel, in order to accommodate the wireless channel transmission. With the increase of SNR, BER is overall slightly drops. However there exists violent fluctuation and it presents the random variation of details in the multipath channel. I employ the mathematical model of multipath time-varying channel, i.e. Jakes model to be simulated so as to compare with the AGWN channel in the same situation. Jakes model has the characteristics of the reference chan-nel compared with the AGWN. BER does not change with the increase of SNR significantly and coincides with multipath time-varying channel. The BER considerably decreases with the increase of SNR in the AGWN channel. 展开更多

Wireless networks are characterized by nodes mobility, which makes the propagation environment time-varying and subject to fading. As a consequence, the statistical characteristics of the received signal vary continuously, giving rise to a Doppler power spectral density (DPSD) that varies from one observation instant to the next. This paper is concerned with dynamical modeling of time-varying wireless fading channels, their estimation and parameter identification, and optimal power control from received signal measurement data. The wireless channel is characterized using a stochastic state-space form and derived by approximating the time-varying DPSD of the channel. The expected maximization and Kalman filter are employed to recursively identify and estimate the channel parameters and states, respectively, from online received signal strength measured data. Moreover, we investigate a centralized optimal power control algorithm based on predictable strategies and employing the estimated channel parameters and states. The proposed models together with the estimation and power control algorithms are tested using experimental measurement data and the results are presented. 展开更多

Optimizing the estimates of received power signals is important as it can improve the process of transferring an active call from one base station in a cellular network to another base station without any interruptions to the call. The lack of effective techniques for estimation of shadow power in fading mobile wireless communication channels motivated the use of Kalman Filtering (KF) as an effective alternative. In our research, linear second-order state space Kalman Filtering was further investigated and tested for applicability. We first created simulation models for two KF-based estimators designed to estimate local mean (shadow) power in mobile communications corrupted by multipath noise. Simulations were used extensively in the initial stage of this research to validate the proposed method. The next challenge was to determine if the models would work with real data. Therefore, in [1] we presented a new technique to experimentally characterize the wireless small-scale fading channel taking into consideration real environmental conditions. The two-dimensional measurement technique enabled us to perform indoor experiments and collect real data. Measurements from these experiments were then used to validate simulation models for both estimators. Based on the indoor experiments, we presented new results in [2], where we concluded that the second-order KF-based estimator is more accurate in predicting local shadow power profiles than the first-order KF-based estimator, even in channels with imposed non-Gaussian measurement noise. In the present paper, we extend experiments to the outdoor environment to include higher speeds, larger distances, and distant large objects, such as tall buildings. Comparison was performed to see if the system is able to operate without a failure under a variety of conditions, which demonstrates model robustness and further investigates the effectiveness of this method in optimization of the received signals. 荷电状态(state of charge,SOC)作为表征锂电池剩余电量的关键指标,其精确估计对于合理使用电池电量、保障电池安全具有重要意义。本文针对基于H∞滤波(H infinity filter,HIF)估计SOC时鲁棒性好但估计精度低的问题,提出一种自适应无迹... 荷电状态(state of charge,SOC)作为表征锂电池剩余电量的关键指标,其精确估计对于合理使用电池电量、保障电池安全具有重要意义。本文针对基于H∞滤波(H infinity filter,HIF)估计SOC时鲁棒性好但估计精度低的问题,提出一种自适应无迹H∞滤波(adaptive unscented H infinity filter,AU_HIF)SOC估计方法,以提高SOC估计精度。首先,选择能够在精度和复杂度间取得良好平衡的双极化(dual polarization,DP)等效电路模型进行新型估计算法的设计;其次,结合无迹卡尔曼滤波(unscented Kalman filter,UKF)算法相比于传统扩展卡尔曼滤波(extended Kalman filter,EKF)算法更适用于非线性系统状态估计的特点,文章基于先验误差协方差矩阵设计新型渐消因子,实现自适应无迹H∞滤波算法的设计,以减小陈旧测量值对估计结果的影响,提高滤波算法的跟踪能力及估计精度。最后,通过搭建自主实验平台获取实际模拟工况数据,验证了文章所提自适应无迹H∞滤波算法相比于传统H∞滤波算法、传统UKF算法和其他类型改进H∞滤波算法具有更高的估计精度及更好的鲁棒性。文章研究内容对提高新能源汽车、储能电站等电池系统的SOC估计精度具有重要意义。 展开更多
