With the development of Big Data and the Internet of Things(IoT),the data value is more significant in both academia and industry.Trading can achieve maximal data value and prepare data for smart city services.Due to data's unique characteristics,such as dispersion,heterogeneity and distributed storage,an unbiased platform is necessary for the data trading market with rational trading entities.Meanwhile,there are multiple buyers and sellers in a practical data trading market,and this makes it challenging to maximize social welfare.To solve these problems,this paper proposes a Social-Welfare-Oriented Many-to-Many Trading Mechanism(SOMTM),which integrates three entities,a trading process and an algorithm named Many-to-Many Trading Algorithm(MMTA).Based on the market scale,market dominated-side and market fixed-side,simulations verify the convergency,economic properties and efficiency of SOMTM. 展开更多

In recent years,carbon emissions have gradually evolved from an environment issue into a political and economic one.Carbon tariff has brought about new trade barriers of developed countries,and in order to enhance the industrial competitiveness of developed countries,it will produce unfavorable impact on developing countries.Concentrated on the manufacturing industry,which is the most intensive high-carbon industry in China's export structure,this article studies the relationship between carbon tariff policy and industry structure of export trade and builds up a relation between climate change and international trade.First,by means of establishing a partial equilibrium model,it applies geometric analysis and mathematical analysis to compute the impact on China's manufacturing export trade and the consequences of the introduction of the US carbon tariff to China's manufacturing industry that has already imposed a domestic shipping carbon tax.Furthermore,with the application of the GTAP model,it estimates the overall economic and welfare effects on China's manufacturing industry if the US and Europe introduce carbon tariff by means of four ways,and then analyzes the influence on China's manufacturing industry export structure and social welfare as well.The result shows that the introduction of the US carbon import tariff lowers China's export price and export volume,and the implementation of a domestic carbon tax justifies a higher export price and a lower export volume for China.However,the degree of export reduction is smaller than that under the effect of the US carbon tariff.In the case of developed countries imposing carbon tariff on China's energy-intensive industries,such as chemical rubber products,oil and coal-processing industry and paper industry,whose export would be reduced,the negative impact on the paper industry is the severest,which will decrease the paper industry's export ranging from 1.79%to 6.05%,whereas the other industries' export will increase.Anyhow,it will promote China's manufacturing industry to adjust the export structure to a certain extent.In addition,it will lead to a decrease in China's welfare,with a decrease between $2,134 billion and $8,347 billion.Finally,this paper provides information on international coordination,export structure adjustment and green manufacturing adjustment as a reference for the development of China's manufacturing industry. 展开更多

Forest certification has positive environmental spillovers.Considering environmental spillovers,this study ana‐lyzed the social welfare effects of forest certification using partial and general equilibrium methods.The re‐sults of the partial equilibrium analysis showed that social welfare in producing countries tended to increase under the market expansion of certified forest products.The general equilibrium analysis results indicated that,in autarky,or economic independence,the production amount of certified forest products could increase.If conventional forest products are imported and certified forest products are exported,then the level of utility in free trade condition is greater than that in autarky.If conventional forest products are exported and certi‐fied forest products are imported,then the price of imported products must be compared with the price of the autarky domestic market to determine the utility level of free trade and autarky.If the price of certified prod‐ucts is less than the price at the time of autarky,then the total utility level increases;otherwise,it decreases.The social welfare effect of forest certification can be increased through expanding the market demand of cer‐tified products and giving these products subsidies in production and price incentives in importing. 展开更多

To promote the application of edge com-puting in wireless blockchain networks,this paper presents a business ecosystem,where edge comput-ing is introduced to assist blockchain users in imple-menting the mining process.This paper exploits re-source trading and miner competition to enable se-cure and efficient transactions in the presented busi-ness ecosystem.The resource trading problem is for-mulated as a Stackelberg game between miner candi-dates and edge computing servers,where computing,caching,and communication resources are jointly op-timized to maximize the potential profit.Partial of-floading is introduced to further enhance the system performance when compared with the existing work.We analyze the existence and uniqueness of the Nash equilibrium and Stackelberg equilibrium.Based on the optimization result,winners are selected from the set of miner candidates by bidding and constitute the mining network.Simulation results demonstrate that the proposal is able to improve the social welfare of blockchain miners,thus stimulating more blockchain users to join the mining network. 展开更多

This is one of typical problems of distributed energy management in smart grid. In this problem, we consider not only the generator and demand, but also the transmission losses which make the feasibility set of the formulated problem a non-convex set. In solving this issue, we find a noticeable result that the primal problem has the same solution with a new convex optimization problem by getting the utmost out of the implied term in practice. Considering the general communication topology among generators and demands, we first design a finite step algorithm to make each generator and demand know the information of parameters of others.Then, we design a distributed algorithm and also prove the optimality and convergence of the proposed algorithm. Finally, the convergence and optimality are examined through extensive simulations. 展开更多

This paper examines the impact of foreign penetration on the public firm in a mixed oligopolistic market. Through the establishment of a mixed double oligopoly market, this paper analyzes how the share of foreign investment affects the environmental policy, the pollutant emission, and the social welfare under the condition of the state tax. The results show that: first, the introduction of foreign investment has some crowding-out effects on the social level of output. Second, the entry of foreign investment increases the profit of the public firm by a large margin, and the maximum profit of the private firm has been reduced. Third, the increase of foreign investment in public firm does not necessarily improve the environment. 展开更多

This paper proposes a fast distributed demand response(DR)algorithm for future smart grid based on primaldual interior method and Gaussian belief propagation(Ga BP)solver.At the beginning of each time slot,each end-user/energysupplier exchanges limited rounds of messages that are not private with its neighbors,and computes the amount of energy consumption/generation locally.The proposed demand response algorithm converges rapidly to a consumption/generation decision that yields the optimal social welfare when the demands of endusers are low.When the demands are high,each end-user/energysupplier estimates its energy consumption/generation quickly such that a sub-optimal social welfare is achieved and the power system is ensured to operate within its capacity constraints.The impact of distributed computation errors on the proposed algorithm is analyzed theoretically.The simulation results show a good performance of the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

By a linear Cournot model, the factors associated with the integration of two firms are discussed in terms of their effects on the private surplus and the social welfare in economies with varying extent of openness. Meanwhile, the trade policy of the host government is taken into account. It is concluded that the more open the economy and the more intense the competition, the less profitable the integration; the most important determinant to the changes of the domestic social welfare is the industry strength of the host country. The host authority can enhance the domestic social welfare in two ways: to adjust the trade policy and to only approve the socially desirable cross-border mergers and acquisitions. 展开更多

In this paper,we propose an analytical stochastic dynamic programming(SDP)algorithm to address the optimal management problem of price-maker community energy storage.As a price-maker,energy storage smooths price differences,thus decreasing energy arbitrage value.However,this price-smoothing effect can result in significant external welfare changes by reduc-ing consumer costs and producer revenues,which is not negligible for the community with energy storage systems.As such,we formulate community storage management as an SDP that aims to maximize both energy arbitrage and community welfare.To incorporate market interaction into the SDP format,we propose a framework that derives partial but sufficient market information to approximate impact of storage operations on market prices.Then we present an analytical SDP algorithm that does not require state discretization.Apart from computational efficiency,another advantage of the analytical algorithm is to guide energy storage to charge/discharge by directly comparing its current marginal value with expected future marginal value.Case studies indicate community-owned energy storage that maximizes both arbitrage and welfare value gains more benefits than storage that maximizes only arbitrage.The proposed algorithm ensures optimality and largely reduces the computational complexity of the standard SDP.Index Terms-Analytical stochastic dynamic programming,energy management,energy storage,price-maker,social welfare. 展开更多

Service providers often adopt the mechanism of customer classification due to the heterogeneity of customer waiting cost. However, the classification service may cause unfairness feeling of regular customers, then affect the revenue and social welfare. This paper provides the first exact analysis about the situation that service providers offer two classes of non-preemptive priority service when customer fairness perception is explicitly modeled. We model customer fairness perception as a negative utility on regular customers that’s proportional to the waiting time difference between the two queues. By analyzing a stylized M/M/1 queue in monopoly service system, we can derive important results some of which reaffirm existed research results. First, from the perspective of revenue maximization, service providers should adopt the mechanism of customer classification and set up the two kinds of customers where they can see each other. Next, considering customer utility maximization,service providers should cancel the mechanism of customer classification, and keep one queue(regular customers) only. Then, from the perspective of social welfare maximization, service providers shouldalso adopt the mechanism of customer classification but set up the two kinds of customers where they cannot feel each other. Finally, this paper concludes the optimal pricing based on customer classification in the above three different perspectives. This research shows important reference value and practical significance for service providers who adopt the mechanism of classification service. 展开更多

This paper takes stock of the existing literature on taxation and presents a framework to evaluate the impacts of tax policy reforms from the perspectives of progressivity and social welfare.It applies this framework to examine two tax reforms in China and finds that(i)the abolition of the regressive agricultural tax in 2005 has significantly improved the social welfare of rural residents;(ii)the increase in the income tax thresholds in 2011 increased progressivity but reduced the overall income tax share of total taxation.When the majority of the taxpayers are in the lower tax bracket,progressivity has little real impact in improving income distribution. 展开更多

Coordinated investment and operations within renewable portfolio standards is one of the key technologies to meet the renewable energy target and realize the economic operations of the power system.This paper proposes a unified framework of coordinated planning and financial incentives.Joint investment in renewable energy and energy storage and joint optimization of energy and ancillary services are integrated into a unified framework.Various factors are taken into consideration by the social planner in the centralized electricity market,such as the sitting and sizing of renewable energy and energy storage,charge and discharge efficiency of the energy storage,transmission network constraints,reserve capacity,and financial incentives.This framework provides a tool for the social planner to determine the optimal planning scheme of renewable energy and energy storage.The conclusion derived is that the sum of market revenue and financial subsidies of renewable energy and energy storage is exactly equal to their investment cost which is obtained by the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker(KKT)condition of maximizing social welfare problems.A numerical result based on the modified IEEE-39 bus test system demonstrates the effectiveness of the unified framework.The impact of financial incentives,reserve capacity,and production costs on capital investment are studied. 展开更多

A novel pricing mechanism for peer-to-peer(P2P)energy trading among the community prosumers is proposed.The prosumers are composed of the sellers with surplus energy and the buyers with insufficient energy.The buyers can adjust the energy consumption behavior based on the price and quantity of the energy supplied by the sellers.Two separate competitions exist in the trading process:1)the competition of price among the sellers;and 2)the competition of seller selection among the buyers.The price competition among sellers is modeled on the basis of optimal supply response.Based on the optimal demand response,the modeling for buyers’dynamic behaviors is used to select sellers and decide the trading quantity.Furthermore,the Stackelberg game is used to analyze the interaction between the buyers act as followers and sellers act as leaders.P2P optimal pricing is achieved by maximizing social welfare.The proposed method is applied to small community prosumers with distributed energy resources(DERs).Simulation results show that the proposed P2P energy pricing mechanism can provide significant financial benefits for the community.First,with the increase of demand,the created welfare flows to the seller as the supply is lower than the demand.Second,as the supply is exceeding the demand,the created welfare with the increase of DERs supply flows to the buyer as the DERs supply is lower,and flows to the buyer and seller as the DERs supply is higher.The results also demonstrate that:the higher the adoption of DERs,the higher the social welfare. 展开更多

As subsidy is a popular form of stimulating consumption,not only for home appliances market,the effectiveness of selling promotion subsidies need to be analyzed.In this paper,we check the role of promotion subsidies in the offline channel layout by establishing three models,i.e.,no subsidy,customer rebate and retailer subsidy.Two kinds of online-to-offline strategies are considered,which are retailer’s opening separate and sharing offline stores.It is gotten that:both customer rebate and retailer subsidy increase the possibility of opening offline channels by sharing offline store strategy,but customer rebate takes high price than no subsidy while retailer subsidy is on the contrary.With the growing subsidy,both customer rebate and retailer subsidy could make offline channels opened by separate or sharing offline store strategy,but the customer rebate brings more possibilities.Both customer rebate and retailer subsidy require less social welfare to open offline channel,but the customer rebate brings more consumer surplus of opening offline channels than retailer subsidy for a given market area.Therefore,government should give the subsidy to customer,not to retailer,even if it brings the increasing of product’price. 展开更多

The adverse impact of the outbreak of COVID-19 has reduced ports’ operational efficiency. In addition, ports and inland logistics providers are generally independent of each other and difficult to work together, which leads to time loss. Thus, as the core player, ports can integrate with inland logistics providers to improve the efficiency and resilience of maritime supply chains. This study examines the strategic options of two competing maritime supply chains consisting of ports and inland logistics providers. We investigate the impact of cooperation between ports and inland logistics providers and government regulation on the maritime supply chain by comparing members’ optimal pricing and overall social welfare under centralized, decentralized, and hybrid scenarios. Results indicate that the hybrid scenario is an equilibrium strategy for maritime supply chain, although this strategy is not optimal for governments seeking to improve supply chain resilience and maximize social welfare. Furthermore, observations show that through government economic intervention, both seaborne supplies can be incentivized to adopt an integrated strategy, and business and society can achieve a win–win situation. 展开更多
