In American literary history,two ocean novels,Herman Melville's Moby Dick and Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea,have always been comparatively studied.Much research focuses on the two protagonists,Aha...In American literary history,two ocean novels,Herman Melville's Moby Dick and Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea,have always been comparatively studied.Much research focuses on the two protagonists,Ahab in Moby Dick and Santiago in The Old Manand the Sea,to praise their heroic spirit,which is shared with other commonly acknowledged heroes.However,unique heroic characteristics of Ahab and Santiago which are tinged with the time flavor are commonly neglected.Enlightenment,which took on different facets in the 19th and 20th centuries,and American social development in different stages contributed a lot to the forming of the two heroic styles.In conclusion,Ahab and Santiago,in the sense of the affirmation of one's value and the defence of their dignity,are heroes,and meanwhile,their heroic behaviors are adapted to the whole atmosphere of a specific time stage.展开更多

In recent years the half-collision technique has been developed, which is based on the Van der Waals molecules generated by metal atoms with some reagent molecules. The metal atoms are excited by selective laser to the various electronic states, then various chemical reactions in "state-to-state" level are studied. The full-collision studies of Cd atoms with H<sub>2</sub> molecules have been reported, but the half-collision studies have not yet. Based on the analysis on the characteristics of human settlement of urban villages in Wuhan,the paper examines the special urban social functions of urban villages during their self-evolution process.The totally marke...Based on the analysis on the characteristics of human settlement of urban villages in Wuhan,the paper examines the special urban social functions of urban villages during their self-evolution process.The totally market-led mode of urban village renovation has neglected existing positive social effects and failed to provide fair development opportunities for disadvantaged groups,and it will hinder the construction of a diversified and vigorous urban socio-ecological environment.In view of the situation,the paper suggests that in order to meet the urban socio-spatial demands during the specific period of social transition,measures should be adopted to re-examine and adjust the strategies and planning techniques concerning market-led urban village renovation with the improvement of sustainable human settlement as the goal.展开更多
Based on qualitative data from in-depth interviews,participative observation,and literature study,this paper aims to get insights into the patterns and process of the citizenization of native villagers living in Liede...Based on qualitative data from in-depth interviews,participative observation,and literature study,this paper aims to get insights into the patterns and process of the citizenization of native villagers living in Liede Community,which is the first redeveloped urban village in Guangzhou.Investigation on villagers' citizenization level is carried out to examine how the redevelopment project affects villagers' citizenization.Our finding reveals that the redevelopment project has improved villagers' living conditions and income levels remarkably,has facilitated the mixed housing patterns of diversified social groups,and has increased their chances to be integrated into urban social life.Nevertheless,as villagers kept their traditional mode of thinking,behavioral habits,and lifestyles,the citizenization process made little progress in terms of land ownership,management mode,mode of livelihood,and citizen identity.Therefore,the Liede redevelopment project has turned out to be a "passive citizenization" process,i.e.,villagers merely received socio-economic benefits from the redevelopment passively but remained isolated from the socio-economic and cultural system of the city.Finally,this paper proposes some policy suggestions to promote the citizenization from both conceptual and practical perspectives.展开更多
