This study explores the development of soft skills in the artificial intelligence(AI)era.Initially, the study, through an anonymous online survey, explored why students use AI and large language models(LLMs).It was found that students use AI for general and academic purposes. From a general perspective, students use AI and LLMs for(1)convenience,(2)lack of time,and(3)lack of curiosity/interest.From an academic perspective, students use AI and LLM platforms as they(1)lack familiarity/knowledge,(2)lack basic skills,(3)lack confidence,(4)have an eagerness to score high grades,and(5)wish to provide different perspectives. To assist in developing students’soft skills and discourage possible destructive outcomes in the AI era,the study suggests integrating AI platforms as part of teaching. This integration can be carried out by(1)introducing AI tools to students in a productive manner,(2)aligning the use of AI tools with the curriculum and teaching styles,(3)planning lessons and interactive activities using AI platforms,and(4)using AI tools to provide feedback and vice versa. In communication courses, instructors shall(1)create a supportive environment,(2)organize classroom discussions and debates,(3)create public speaking opportunities,(4)provide room for oral communication practices,(5)integrate the use of technology and multimedia,and(6)provide feedback and reflection. In business writing courses, instructors shall(1)encourage effective communication in classrooms,(2)facilitate collaboration and teamwork,(3)use role-play scenarios,(4)introduce project management tools,(5)teach professional etiquette,and(6)organize networking events. In composition courses, instructors shall(1)embrace technology,(2)teach students to critically evaluate online sources,(3)design assignments that require critical analysis,(4)encourage creative writing assignments,(5)promote imagination and originality,and(6)conduct workshops. These practices, which are provided in line with AlAfnan’s taxonomy of educational objectives, shall assist students in developing their soft skills in a way that maintains the relevance of classroom teaching in the AI era. 展开更多

USA as an ICT (Information and Communication Technology) innovative leader, Europe with its knowledge offensive and Asia as the fastest growing economies share the common fate: ICT projects do under perform. Numerous surveys point at human factor as a source of this malheur. The question emerge to what extent project manager is responsible for improvements there, and which particular skills are demanded to turn the ICT projects course towards more predictable, more efficient and better budget able endeavours. Authors examined and compared the scientific and practitioners views. Twenty-nine journal and conference papers and 46 monographs and standards dedicated to project manager skills have been scrutinized. Further 324 jobs advertisements for the ICT project managers in USA, Switzerland, Poland and Thailand underwent an analysis related to the demanded soft skills of the project manager. The L-Timer~ taxonomy of human factor related processes in project management is applied as comparison vehicle. Methodology extracted main (global) terms and detailed aspects, both weighted appropriately. The practitioners on all continents expect primarily communication skills followed by the team management abilities. Human resource is partially treated, while conflict management is underrepresented. The science seems to be focused on leadership followed by the communication skills, neglecting self management skills of project managers. The last are surprisingly well represented in the US advertisement. The USA job advertisements are the most comprehensive and elaborated one--and, what might be explained by high impact of American science on job definition--close to the scientific details of skill description, self management excluded. In Poland, team management appears to be a problem, while Thailand's companies seek leaders first. The best balanced approach might be found in Swiss job advertisements. The inter-cultural differences point at impact of cultural heritage, which call for differentiated view of science on demanded project manager human factor related skills. Authors pursue this fascinating research. 展开更多

In recent years, an impressive research literature of relevance to business education has accumulated from several diverse areas of study to show that without the acquisition of what have come to be called "soft skills", the level of potential success in the context of business transactions, production, and international trade cannot be maximised. To be clear, soft skills refer to an array of personal skills such as the capacity to communicate, and problem-solve, possess leadership qualities, and the ability to work well in a team, be amicable, and a good listener. Indeed, there are some studies to which the authors will allude that reveal that "soft skills" are in fact more important to success in business than competencies of"hard skills" or the technological production skills upon which business itself must also depend. The central objective of this paper is to exhibit the relevance of this new understanding of the integral role played by soft skills in business success, and thus to the economic growth enjoyed by a country. What the authors say about the particular pertinence which the research on soft skills has for Vietnam is likely to be equally important to improving success in business for other developing countries. 展开更多
