Relationships between application layer protocols in softswitch are explored in this paper.Two notions, i.e.protocol relationship and protocol grouping, are proposed, which are not clearly defined and even not paid much attention to before.On the basis of a well known protocol relationship named protocol conversion, three novel protocol relationships including protocol collaboration relationship, protocol cooperation relationship and protocol independent relationship are presented, so that protocol relationships are classified into four types.According to the functionality and purpose of each protocol, main protocols related to softswitch are divided into five groups.As to protocol conversion in softswitch, information flow trail(IFT) is utilized to facilitate problem solving.A decision rule for protocol conversion mode is proposed to guide how to choose between direct conversion and indirect conversion.A property of protocol relationships in softswitch is induced from all kinds of service scenarios of softswitch.This property summarizes protocol relationships within each protocol group or between two specific protocol groups.A merit of protocol grouping together with classification of protocol relationship is also presented.The effort of this paper pushes the protocol engineering to go ahead. 展开更多

Then a RVMS framework model based on softswitch is given. Furthermore, designation and realization of the system based on T 6000 Softswitch Platform is provided. Based on the system feature of softswitch-based heterogeneous clustered media server, this paper proposed a limited resource vector load-balancing algorithm. The purpose of the algorithm was to balance the load of clusters by utilizing all system resources effectively and to avoid violent shaking of the system per- formance. A lot of simulations on the Petri net model of load balance system are conducted and the algorithm is compared with some traditional algorithms on balancing ability for heterogeneity, system throughput, re- quest response time and performance stability. The results of simulations show that the algorithm achieves system higher performance and it has excellent ability to deal with the heterogeneity of clustered media server. 展开更多

Reasonable steps,measures and strategies should be chosen for the evolution from fixed Softswitch to the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). A smooth evolution to the IMS is possible by gradually introducing and expanding multimedia and mobile services to achieve Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) at the core network layer while leveraging the existing SS-based Public Switched Telephone Network Emulation Subsystem (PES) service functions. The core control layers of the Next-Generation Network (NGN),SS and IMS have basically identical architectures. However,SS is oriented to PSTN emulation services while the IMS makes a useful expansion in terms of mobility,security,Quality of Service (QoS) and Open Service Architecture (OSA) to enable FMC and multimedia services. Therefore,the evolution from SS to IMS is technically feasible. Operators who have already used SS can enable IMS-based full-service NGN through the evolution,which not only saves the investment and operation costs,but also reduces the risk of network alteration. 展开更多
